Not Dead, Just not as popular as it used to be.  I figure, as long as you there is gangsters, or better yet, street gangs, there will be Gangsta Rap.

I agree, alot of tha Old School cats got played out... the whole message and concept of Gangsta Rap got played out to me... but there's still poeple out there "Bangin Tha Streets" that relate to that type of music so be it... I dont knock it.

Eazy May have Started it but he didn't finish it... not at all... Today it's not as easy to come across that Gangsta shit though.. they dont play it on TV or Radio nomore... it's all Underground indy shit... Biggest Buzz I'm hearing about Gangsta shit nowadays is from X Raided/Brotha Lynch/C Bo type shit.. all them Sac/Yay niggaz.... and then you got tha Chicano Rap scene poppin off which is just a Chicano version of Gangsta Rap... Version 1.5, or 1.3... whatever...

50 Cent still got paid off that Gangsta Shit... But gangsta rap dont need to sell to stay alive.. and you need talent to keep gangsta rap alive either... You can make a Gangsta Rap using plain'ol 123,ABC, rhymes...

I mean, I've met real Gangsters, from gangs who bump mixtapes or whatever that their own homeboys put together... shit you can't even buy... They just listen to it cuz they like to rep their shit, or they just like hearing their hood's name out tha 12'' speakers.. So I figure Gangsta Rap wont be gone till tha Gangsta's are gone...

Eazy May have Started it but he didn't finish it...

but he didnt, the first person mc who used this gangsta concept for the first time was skooly D in 1982

the first true gangsta rapper was Ice-T, ever heard "6 n the mornin"? thats the first gangsta rap song ever..and it was released in 1983

boyz 'n tha hood was released in 1985, wen ruthless records just started, thats like 2 years after "6 n the mornin"

why wont people recognize  ice-T as the inventor of gangsta rap?

Yeah... I recognize homie..

Dont know about Skooly D but Ice T definatly gets his props..

But not even Ice T will tell you he INVENTED it... he was just tha first foo' who was able to put it out there... and Ice T went off and did his Rock thing, went through his pimp phase... But Eazy E, along with NWA, man they took it to tha next level. He kept that Gangsta image from begining to end (even though that was a short time)... something not even tha Rest of tha NWA members have done... He started the label... RUTHLESS!... maybe not tha inventor but he deserves his title as Godfather Of Gangsta Rap...

Skooly D... I dont know, Maybe he was spittin some street shit but Gangsta Rap couldn't have started in the East Coast... might have been some Ghetto tales but they weren't Tales from Tha Hood cuz that's out here...
