Trauma-san:
Wow, well, here's my review after listening once.
Big Boi - DECENT. I'm not gonna hate. Outkast are always kinda on the cutting edge, and I think I'll probably grow to like some more of this disc. The track with Jay Z is hot. My brother and I were listening to it, and we both looked at each other, and I told him "Shit, Jay is NOT gonna ride this fast ass beat, they're gonna switch shit up before his verse"... then, Lo and Behold, he DID ride the fast ass beat. More reasons Jay is at least half as good as he thinks he is. Track is HOT. "I like the way you move" is good, it's really growing on me. "Church" is good. The track with Luda I liked, all in all, a halfway decent album, I'm gonna give it a 7/10 to start with, maybe it'll grow on me.
Now, yall know I love weird shit, I love classic stuff, rock, country, I like all types of music. Unfortunately, I'm not feeling Andre's album, and that was the half I was looking forward to the most. What happened to Aquemini? I thought THAT was what Andre was responsible for... This whole album, to me, was VERY dissapointing. It's like he's trying to go with the whole Jimi Hendrix/trippy psychedelic soul album, and it didn't work. He's got Missy/Busta disease. He thinks to be creative, you have to be different. Him remarking that he's trying to envoke the beatles? WHAT THE FUCK? This stuff all sounds way to similar. I don't mind Andre singing, and when he does his single (My baby blah blah blah whatever") it's not bad. I don't mind that track. But where is the rap? He raps what, twice on his half? Somebody needs to clue him in. The last track, The life of Benjamin Andre or whatever, is HOT. There's no chorus or anything, so it can't be a single, but the entire album should have had this on it. He's actually telling his life, he talks about how he goes to this club and sees this woman singing with a headwrap on, "You know her as ms. Erykah On & On Badu" shit like that, it's tight as hell. He says she did Call Tyrone but it wasn't about him, cuz that ain't even his name, LOL he says she got pregnant and they had the kid, so they wouldn't have any regrets about abortion. He says something about "Now He's 5, probably gonna be Six by the time I finish this Mix"... the whole song features all that blaze everybody loves about him, I think (and my brother thinks) that maybe he threw this joint on last so everybody could see he can do whatever he wants on the mike if he wants. Look at this shit...
"So on a trip to New York on some Beezwax
I get invited to a club where MC's at
And on stage is a singer with some thing on her hair
Similar to the turban that I covered up my dreads with
Which I was rockin' at the time
When I was goin' through those phases trynin find
Anything that seemed real in the world
Still, searchin, but I started likin' this girl
Now, you know her as Erykah on and on Badu
Call Tyrone, on the phone, Why you
Do that girl like that, Boy, you oughta be ashamed
That song wudn't about me, ahem that ain't my name
But young and love, in short we had fun
No regrets, no abortion, we had a son
By the name of Seven, and he's five
By the time I do this mix, he'll probably be six
You do the 'righmatic, I'll do the language arts
Yall stand against the wall, blindfolded, me throw the darts"
TIGHT SHIT
