Would Pac have become commercialized?
« on: October 20, 2003, 12:43:44 AM »
I was conversatin' with the homy earlier today after listening to Pac's new joint "Runnin", and he started to say that if Pac was still alive today that he would've gone the same route Snoop and Dre did. He thinks that Pac would've become commercialized and started working with a grip of South/East artists, while leavin' behind West Coast artists, all up on MTV, etc. So what y'all think about this?

Pac already was commercialised, and worked with a gang of East Coast artists.

We can never know what would have happened for sure, but the strongest belief I have is that if Pac hadn't have been killed that night, he would have been off Death Row by the end of 97, and would be making the best music of his career.

naw I don't think pac would have sold out.  His music was truely from the heart and soul.  Also I think if Pac were still alive rap would be a lot different, and snoop and dre might not be working with so many artists.  Who knows, what would happen if Pac were still alive.

i agree with lord funk...pac was already commercialized...but i wouldnt say hes commericalized because he worked with some east coast artists or whatever...i'd say he's commercialized because they use his fame to make money (they would've done it the same way if he hadnt died)...he did commercials before his death and they've found ways to do it after so yes i'd say he is.

He probably would've, but I don't see the point of this whole question. He's dead and you can't turn back into time.

Makaveli was made to be different. 2Pac had a big impact because he always was different. Kepp Your Head Up at the time was too "soft" for the gangsta rap era, especially being a westcoast artist. But 2Pac did it, and every album he ever did was different from the last. 'Pac was always changing his sound, always moving forward. He rapped from the heart, and talked about everything from life, death, bitches, riches, struggling, and being rich. I think 2Pac would have sound the same as a rapper, but as an artist, his sound would change all the times. With Thug Life, he used Johnny J to set his sound, Johnny J not being as known, then on Me Against the World, he used a bunch of producers including Johnny J, Eazy Moe Bee (legendary eastcoast producer) and Shock G of course. The when All Eyez On Me dropped, 2Pac went with the more Death Row sound, with Daz, Devonte Swing (Jodeci was always working with Death Row then) and Dr. Dre for his single. Then on Makaveli, he got two unknow Death Row house producers to create a new sound for him. I doubt 2Pac would have sold out again, the first time was joining Death Row, but I do think the commercial world, like it always does with 'Pac, would adjust to what his doing. 'Pac was a risk taker, so he'll do what he wants.

Workin with east or south rappers doesn't make you commercialised. But following trends like working with corny popstars like Mariah Carey or Cristina Aquilaira do make you commercialized. And I don't think Pac would have done that. Unless Suge told him to do it.
IS DETOX NEXT? Don't think so.

I meant how everyone always blames Dre and Snoop for working with Non-West Coast artists, while they hardly ever work with Left Coast representers. I don't even think is totally true, but that's the general feeling from West Coast fans.

Bone Thugz did a song with Mariah and they didn't sell out, the Breakdown Remix is a sick song.  Anyways i don't think Pac would have sold out, he probably would have chosen only talented rappers to do collabos with.  He doesn't get along with people he doesn't seem to respect so i don't think he would do collabos with a lot of todays mainstream rappers.
