You're oversimplifying just a TAD aren't ya?  All the 'illegally occupying land' thing is is the LATEST in a long list of Jerusalem getting thrown back and forth between jewish and islamic rule.  If you say that it's rightfully palestinian territory, Jews will just say it was jewish territory before that, persian territory before that, and before that it was promised to them by god in the old testament.

I think the mindstate of the oppressor is this.  They think if Palestine just stopped whining about their land, and "played ball" then everything would be okay.  Same thing with the black man in America.  They just wanted him to "face it" and "quit making excuses."  Because they believe that the right people are in power.
