Jay Z just held an ENTIRE album down by himself.. Who does this nowadays?

Bizzy Bone
Canibus

 8)

but name 1 comercially really successful rapper who does

Nas (i don't remember him having any guests on Stilmatic.

He had AZ on the album.  HE also had the Bravehearts before they removed their song from the album.  HE had someoen else too.  I don't remember his name.

AZ, The Bravehearts, Millenium Thug & Blitz were on Stillmatic but Nas was completely solo on The Lost Tapes.

and he only had one featured artist on Illmatic.

Anyways, I think The Black Album seemed more like Jay-Z than any other CD he has put out since Reasonable Doubt.

As good as it was that Jay held down an album all by himself, that don't make it any hotter. He had a lot of big name producers, but that still didn't make it great. I think he worried more about flow on this, sometimes he sounded like he was just talking non-sense. I appreciated the tracks he opened up on, though. I think it was a good product, just not as great as everyone said. Probably if this wasn't his "last" album, it would've been another Jay album, but it's caught in the hype.

first listen i thought it was average, could have been hotter, but now, i couldnt be feelin it more, hes got some fuckin hot lyrics in that album, just listen to it, and his flow cant get better on some of the songs, there are quite a few just straight up flawless verses on this album and you dont get much of that. i think with some time this can be considered a classic.

Yeah plus Amerie and Mary J. Blige on the version I got. And you can't really count The Lost tapes cause that's more of a compilation of songs from the recording sessions of I Am & Stillmatic than an actual album.

So name one

Naw, if u don't like it u don't like it. But IMO guests would've prolly made it less hot than it is

I don't count people doing choruses.  Canibus had Rakim's voice on a chorus, Jay had some chick sing a chorus, Rakim had singers do choruses on his two solo albums that he was the only one rapping.

I don't see how you can't count The Lost Tapes just because the songs weren't all recorded with the intention for that album or in the same time period.  It's a CD of all unreleased material like any other normal album that comes out, that's how I see it.

to me the lost tapes are just more of a compilation. nas did not record a solo album intending to record a solo album and had no guests on it. but if u wanna count it aight, no need to dispute. doin a whole album alone is still rare in more commercial hiphop cause guests help you sell your album.

and i still think it was a good idea by jay to do that shit with no guest stars. if you dont like the result thats sumthin else...of course the fact he did it alone don't improve the songs

If you're gonna use people on hooks as features then Jay didn't hold down the album on his own. Hooks on "Lucifer" and "Justify My Thug" weren't done by Jay. So, if you wanna nit-pick...

Depends on the features. Some features can really help an album out. I would've liked to hear some other emcees on this album.

The Black Album is a great album, u could say this is the 2003 version of RD, present's that very same hungry Jay-Z after a decade of sucsess coming full sircle, it sound's so natural and on point that u can't help but smile like an idiot all the way through(at least that's how I feel), If heads couldn't recognise Hova on questionable releases like VOL2 or (relatively to his earlier material) experemental yet tastefull albums like VOL3 can trully say this is RD shit right here, it's vivid.
