THE WESTCOAST
« on: January 23, 2004, 02:41:11 AM »
Whats up to the westcoast? This is D-Loc some just call me D. extended member of the Mafia IV Life Family and one of the originals over on "Main". I am concerned. With the status of the westcoast in comparison to its former self. You have veterans who were once known as "Pioneers" unable to get a record out knowing the situation we are faced with, which is "Media Biased Material" consuming 75% of the Hip Hop game/sales. Above The Law, Cube, Ice T, MC Ren to name a few and newcomers that you know have the talent, like Crooked I, Sly Boogie, E White, in the same corner.
Back in the day if you were hot you put out a record within 5 months, now niggas are afraid to drop because of the biased situation we are faced with. The popularity of Hip Hop music is the main cause of this, with the commercial acts selling to not only Hip Hop consumers but to 50% of the population. How can less commercial artists compete? Does this mean that because Crooked I and Death Row's release the Dysfunktional Family soundtrack didnt out-sell you're Commercial artists that the album wasnt top notch? No it doesnt. The truth is non-commercial musicians should not be compared against these Media Based artists, and with the growing number in hiphop followers, this will stay. But look deep and you can find what I call "Talent" and that doesnt mean whats hot on the radio right now.
So I urge every Hip Hop head, support the roots and lets support one another and come together on the west coast. In my eyes EVERY single Westcoast artist has something for someone whether your an OG or sat at home making beats at the crib, you get my love and supprt. These artists and groups put they heart and soul into this music for us, lets leave out the negative feedback give it up, try to put some realness back into Hip Hop.
I guess Overseer has let you know that the homies at Mafia IV Life are releasing an album next month called "Game Over", its the first real release by the IV Life Records Family and they are doing it 100% independant with no distribution. Goldie, Tray Deee and Snoop are on it and I hope theres a song or 2 on there that will apeal to some of you. I can tell you its got some heaters and its some of that real westcoast music (the mixtapes were other peoples beats), no its not about to change the game, but it is some of that "G" shit that we all love.

God bless ya'l

yeah I feel ya 98% dogg, but I gotta be realistic too.  Not everyone drops heated albums.  I've spent a shitload of money on westcoast rap albums in my life.  So when I go to the store and spend $16+ for a cd that I have been highly anticipating and then it turns out to be garbage, then man Imma be pissed, and I am going to speak my mind about it here on this forum.  I agree with you that a lot of these westcoast artists put their heart and soul into records, and they put in a lot of work to make them.  But the fans also work their asses off at their own jobs to make the money to buy the cd's.  So when a fan goes and spends their hard earned money on an album, only to find out the album sucks, thats not cool.  I've been listening to rap since 93, and I gotta say last year was the worst damn year ever for me in terms of westcoast rap.  A lot of artists need to stop with the stupid ass beefs, and blaming everyone else for their own failures.  Doesn't even matter if its someone else fault, they the ones who need to get paid from it.  Life ain't fair, and its nothing new that record companies are hella shady.  Rappers need to get around that and deal with it.  Same thing with the bootlegging.
