WWE announces Lesnar's resignation

TSN.ca Staff with WWE Files

3/14/2004

The following was posted late Sunday night on WWE.com after WrestleMania XX:

"Brock Lesnar has made a personal decision to put his WWE career on hold to prepare to tryout for the National Football League this season. Brock has wrestled his entire professional career in the WWE and we are proud of his accomplishments and wish him the best in his new endeavor."

Reports surfaced Wednesday that Lesnar stood up in front of the SmackDown crew yesterday at the pre-show talent meeting and announced his desire to leave the company following WrestleMania to pursue a career in the National Football league.  Lesnar told people that he was miserable in the business and was burned out by WWE's hectic travel schedule which has seen him join the crew for shows in places as far away as South Africa and Iraq in the past few months.

Lesnar reportedly thanked Vince McMahon, Jim Ross, Gerry Brisco, Big Show, and Paul Heyman for their help with his career, and said he would return.

More to follow.

When Lesnar came out of college he was offered a contract by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Washington Redskins.

He wants to play for his hometown Minnesota Vikings, but any team that needs help on D-Line should take a chance on him.
