Ras Kass - Soul On Ice.

1) On Earth As it is....
"I ain't never seen an angel, virgin bitches with halos But my secular metaphysical theology is fatal"

:o

As soon as i heard the starting of this track i knew i was in for something i'd never heard before.. Lyricaly this track was a beast. Dark melow beats accompanies ras rhyming about god, satan amongst other things. Brilliant track and a great way to start the album off.
Rating - 5/5

2) Anything Goes.
I like the beat on this, real calm with some women humming in the background. Ras comes with nice lyrics on this, and i love the skit on the end of this track. Ras sings a bit of michael jacksons "Human Nature" great stuff.
"She fucked for a Jack in the crack cheese cake" LOL
Rating - 5/5

3) Marinatin'
Ras goes all lovey on us on this track and its nice track to chill to. As before the beat is very calm with bubble sounds in the background, while ras rhymes about chilling with women and doing his stuff.
Rating - 4.5/5

4) Reelishymn
I LOVE THIS TRACK. The beat is great but i think for a track like this the beat should have been different and more upbeat. Ras raps about the rap industry and how its fucked up.

"Make a radio hit - headz criticize it; Underground classic - nobody buys it: So, rap is fucked And everything blowing up sounds redundant"

"Cuz true lyricists in hip-hop Joe Public be dissin Niggas don't relate Elevate and its treated like elevator music Cuz' nigga don't listen But ridicle is the burden of genius Have you ever seen this socioeconomic gullitine rip?"

The stuff ras says is pure amazing and this is one of my fav tracks on the album at the mo.
Rating -5/5

5) Nature Of The Threat.
This is the track everyone talks about when this album is brought up and its easy to see why. This track is basicaly a 7 minute track about the history of White people and how they are racist and oppressed blacks and other races. Lyricaly this track is a masterpiece imo. Great yet simple beat with no chorus and definetly not for people who are easily affended.

"Jesus Christ! Time for some-act-right, Christians get your facts right Cause Christ was not his name That's Greek for "One who is anointed" Yoshua Ben Yosef was his name, do Christians know this? So who do you praise, do you know his name? Or do you do this in vain?"
Rating - 5/5

6) ETC
Whoa this is tight, Ras raps fast over a dark, grimy beat and tares up with some great lyrics.
Rating - 5/5

7) Sonset
DEADLY, great dark beat and on this track basicaly ras kass fucks up the east coast. He rhymes about east coast artists thinking they are superior to other artists in other coasts. All im saying is if Ras was involved in the eastcoast/westcoast beef, he would of fucked up the east good and proper..

"So why these niggas actin' like Since they live in the state
That rap originates.  They automatically, all time greats?
It takes classic material to phat shit Not proof of New York residence and an accent Who expresses the freshest the
West Coast was ressurcted By me, I'm the mother fuckin' man like homo erectus So why it matter where rap started
If I wanted to hear from asshole I would have farted"
Rating -5/5

8) Drama (ft Coolio)
This has a great uplifting beat to this track unlike the rest of the album which has a dark feel to it. Coolio does the hook and a verse and both rap about girls getting with artists and getting played out.
Rating - 4.5/5

9) The Evil That Men Do
BRILLIANT, quick little intro to the track then ras comes in all hard talking about his life and his family. Another great but kinda dark beat.

"In eighty-one I remember the night
I covered myself with baby powder, so my black ass could be light Cause God is white, and Bo Derek is a ten
I hate my black skin, it's just a sin to be a nigga"
Rating - 5/5

10) If/Then
The only track i don't feel that much, the beat is ok with some mad flute sound in the background. Ras comes nice with the lyrics but the track i find quite boring.
Rating - 3/5

11) Miami Life
I love this beat its amazing, nice piano starts it off with a nice bass line kicking in. In the vid for this Coolio plays the piano which is cool. This track is obviously about life in miami and lyricaly is tight. Ras Ain't from miami but this track was made for a soundtrack for a film (can't remember which one) so stuff he raps about is releated to the film.
Rating - 5/5

12) Soul On Ice (Diamond D Remix)
This is the version i got hold of first and put on my album. Nice beat with ras covering more race issues and how ppl don't keep it real in hip hop, personaly i prefer this version to the soul on ice original. This version has a new beat and all new lyrics.
Rating - 5/5 (the original version i'd give 4.5/5)

13) Orda Abchao (Order out of Chaos)
Brilliant. Nice beat with someone saying the title of the track in the background. Ras rhymes about everything from racism, history, the government and does is SOO WELL.
Rating -5/5

Overall - 5/5
I love this album and is possibly my fav album ever. Lyricaly i have yet to hear any album touch this and yes that includes anything by Nas/Jay/wu members etc. People complain about the beats alot when this album is mentioned but i think they are tight as hell coz i love that whole dark style of production. The funny thing is this album imo neither sound east or west and is probably one of the reasons people hate the beats.
