ok so its needs a lil tweaking.. mostly in the dept of the font thats underneath, and maybe the colour (my fave col #000080 lol  :'()

I wouldn't wear a hiphop or rap themed shirt, so maybe my opinion is useless.  My opinion is though that it's a good idea, but it's just kind of 'plain' looking.  I agree with you, however, that you can't make something really cheesy, and you can't do big complicated graphics.  The best designs are the simplest.  The Godfather theme, if more obvious, would do the trick, but I didn't recognize it until it was pointed out.  So to me it just looked like an arty way to font 'connected?'.  Maybe I'm in the minority though and others will immediately grasp the godfather theme.
