Why is the westcoast so forgotten by people.....

The West gotta step it up too and put out some shit that's undeniable to anyone's ear, even the haters. It goes both ways in my eyes.

that holds no water at all.  Ja Rule and Nelly both sold millions of copies of their albums, while DJ Quiks' album UTI didn't do shit.  ain't no way in hell those albums were even 10% as good as quik's album.  Roscoe's album was great, it didn't sell for shit, meanwhile missy elliot is on every radio station, and probably selling millions of copies.  very rarely does music sales have anything to do with talent in this day in age.

The new generation of hip-hop listeners don't even know Quik's name. There's no way Nelly or Murphy Lee or any of those cats put out better shit than Quik, but they got the money and backing.

Also, when I was talking about the West isn't putting out anything that's undeniable, I mean that it isn't nothing we haven't heard before. The West needs some originality.

Here in the Grimey east I have heard some west coast shit that is in the regular rotation.  They play Xzibit, WSC, Knoc, i remember hearing WCs The Streetz song regularly. I have 4 hip hop stations to choose from. I do like some rappers from the West but they gotta be tight..I think the case is westcoast heads need to open there ears up and listen to underground cats from the east.

Why do you base it on the Eastcoast?

There's a big Underground scene in NYC, but their music isn't aired in the radio either. It's not the Eastcoast that is mainly played, it's the mainstream (but yes, the most mainstream music is probably from the Eastcoast). But what about Lil' Jon, N.E.R.D., Ludacris, Chingy, Nelly, J-Kwon, etc. All from the South or the Midwest.

Even big Eastcoast cats like KRS or Public Enemy are rarely played on radio.

So the problem with the radio isn't an ignorance against the Westcoast, it's against unpopular music.

people on here just don't understand that there are fads in this world, and things go out of style.

My fav type of music by far is funk, g-funk, p-funk.  that shit was popular in the first half of the nineties, very popular.  in fact the most popular rap out there.  its a fad just like anything else.  Look how popular hula hoops used to be?  You never see one of them nowadays.  Look how popular action movies starring people like Arnie, Van Dam, Sly Stone, etc were at one point.  those actors or their type of action movie is not popular at all anymore.  There is fads in EVERYTHING.  

I still luv funk rap over anything else, even tho most people don't dig it anymore.  The westcoast makes rap that pretty much all has the same distinct sound/flow of an album.  The south does the same, and so does the eastcoast.

Like dude said, its not about where the music comes from, its about what kind of music is popular.  The west's type of music was popular in the 90's, and the south wasn't even hardly heard of, beside a few rappers. the problem is, the west still makes the same type of sounding music.  its good for fans like me, but not good for rappers wanting to go platinum and sell lots of records.

but just because music is not popular, does not mean that it is not good music.  and vice versa.

the westcoast is gonna be kept on the downlow untill:

A) they create a new style that happens to catch the public's attention.
B) gangsta rap/funk rap somehow becomes in style again (this is highly unlikely)
C) Some person(s) decides to invest a shitload of money into westcoast rap and promote and market the shit out of rappers out here.  


what I think will happen:

someone is gonna come out the westcoast with a style that is A LOT different than the typical westcoast cat.  Someone else who is a smart business man, and a good ear, is gonna invest money into this rapper.  with investment comes promotion.  with promotion comes airplay.  with airplay comes sales and popularity.  with sales and popularity comes other people hopping on the bandwagon tryna do the same thing.  and so many other new and up and comming rappers will try to duplicate that style, some way or another.  How long will this take to happen?  I have no idea.

A lot of people think that the Game is this rapper, but I disagree.  He brings nothing new at all to the table.  He may have great sales, and may become very popular himself, but for rap as a whole, he won't do anything.

and its gonna take new rappers to bring back the west.  As much as I luv these old established guys, they can't do it, because they are nothing new.  and as much as people say snoop and dre are the ones who can do it, I disagree.  Again they may have great sales themselves, and may be very popular, but as a whole for rap, they aren't gonna do anything anymore.
