I think we all agree with each other. We see what each other thinks, and we see truth in it all. It's like a meeting of the mind, we all see different things, and put them together to get the bigger picture. And most everyone that responded in from Cali, and has a pretty good idea what went on at the time. We all can agree with each other. Someone should take all these points and make it into an article, do something with it. We need to find a way to bring the westcoast back.

Pac wasn't really reppin the west hard until Death Row. I think if one of the three I listed had died, it would have been a bigger deal than Pac's death. People didn't even start sayin the west fell off until 98-99, and the west was still decent at the time.

^^reason i believe his first two albums were his best..pre-deathrow pac was an awesome pac  8) (still great when he did join deathrow)

Good post man!

Let's be honest, lack of talent is the real problem.

Good topic...I agree, I never thought the West fell off just because of Pac, that's simply unreal. One person can not be held 'responsible' for a downfall of an entire coast...there was enough talent on the West Coast to keep it going.
At the end of the day, I think we can all agree when I say that one of the main reasons why the West fell off, is because of the lack of media attention, whether it be radio, tv or magazines (although XXL is doing a pretty good job on promoting West Coast artists!).

And yeah, all that Crunk music will eventually die out...it's like a craze. People jumped on that genre, but they will be quik to jump back off of it.

Another factor to be considered could be considered that in 1997/98 there was no charismatic person or group that still repped the west to the fullest and made others get some shine.

Ice Cube solo went to the big screen and hardly made music anymore
Dr. Dre didn't rep it
Snoop had gone to the south
2Pac was dead
Death Row itself was dying a slow death.

Result: There weren't suitable 'leaders' of the coast left and that made that there was no one to focus at,resulting in lack of recognition. This combined to the uprise of the eastcoast & especially south led to 'the downfall'.

I disagree. IMO Pac's death IS the main reason the West died down. After that there really wasn't anyone/anything reppin' the West to the mainstream. WSC disappeared after Bow Down, Dre basically disappeared, Snoop left Tha Row, and Suge went to jail. Plus that's basically when the whole Snoop/Suge war started. Makes sense to me.

yeah its not the main reason. although i do believe its a factor. i think him passing away, kinda killed some of the unity between the bay area and La artists. all eyez on me was able to unite rappers from both the bay and La. the cd had snoop, nate, dru down, dre, kurupt, redman, method man, rappin 4 tay, cbo, e40, b legit, richie rich, syke....it got everyone united for the album.. which was something that hadnt been seen or heard before.. so after pac died, there wasnt that much of a connection between bay rap and La rap, so the entire west coast did not have as strong of a front..   the reason the west fell off was just a whole bunch of reasons.. pac dyin, dre leaving, snoop leaving,..
