Can someone explain to me how a president gets elected

what i meant with the states i mentioned were the states that had the most electoral votes.
And yes popular votes does matter. If the entire state of texas only voted democrat then every single electoral vote from texas would go to the democratic candidate.

Ok, I thought that's what you meant but I was just attempting to clarify.
