He didnt hit that guy... he yelled 'WAS IT YOU? WAS IT YOU?' thats why you dont see him hit that guy, he was making sure it was the right guy...

once the fat kid walked on the court, he's not a fan, he becomes a threat. Imagine if he had a knife? Artest acted like a human.

do we live in england? thats why if you were to make gorilla noises in america youd get the shit beat out of you by a man that doesnt take shit like that..

Most likely NOT, because in Football the fans are 10-30.000 and the player is one.  :D

Not to mention better security to avoid shit like that.
At least after this incident:

 ;D

taking it out of the NBA, would it be okay for him to retalliate if it was on the street, or in a cinema?

That's a total different story. if some random asshole throws a cup of beer at someone in the cinema intentionally for nothing at all, I wont give him a weird look when he slaps the dude.

You can't take a crowd of fans as "assholes" you ought to handle, cause they are fucking FANS. And Fans do stupid shit, I know what Im talking about.
The Goalkeeper of my football team, Oliver Kahn, for instance.. people always throw bananas at him. Still, no way he'd run up there all of a sudden and punch them dude, although he got some remarkable temper for a blond dude..

i dont think being a fan is any excuse. the fans should still respect the players @ the end of the day, if they do shit to provoke them then they deserve to suffer the consequences. if that's the ass beating of a lifetime, so be it. if i threw shit @ a player, i wouldn't doubt that they'd give me a beating, which is why i dont do it

It's not about to argue whether the fan should be banned from the place or not, it's about that an NBA Player is NOT supposed to smack fans.
The suspensions are absolutely justified, the NBA isnt Ice-Hockey or American Football, it's about manners. That's why there are technical fouls and rules.
I agree being banned for over 70 games is some hardcore ban, 35 or so would've been enough, but maybe they also shorten the ban some time like somebody else mentioned.

And Ben shouldnt be banned for 10 games, he did some shit that just happens. Peeler did some harder shit towards Garnett by far, even without being fouled in advance. Was he banned for 10 games? So Wallace should be banned for 10 games, just because Artest totally snapped after it? That's not Wallace's business.

Ron had the right to go after that fan but that fan should not have been acting like an asshole which got him what it got him: an ass-whooping

When you sign on to the NBA, you leave certain things at the door.  I'll use an Analogy.

If you were say, one of those guards that stands in front of Buckingham palace; and someone walked up and started yelling at you, right in your face....... you might not do anything, because part of the job is that you are to stand at guard and silent.  If you were in a restaurant, however, you'd probably beat the guy's ass.

So, in the NBA, while anywhere else, you might fight somebody for throwing a beer at you... in the NBA, you're not in control of the situation... you no longer have the power to protect yourself, in the first place, because you've got thousands of people mad at you right now.  The only way this works is that we as intelligent human beings recognize that in this situation, you *CANNOT* fight these people when they piss you off.  If it was 1 on 1 on a street, you could fight the guy.  In a basketball arena, with paying fans, and coaches, and teams, and games at stake, fortunes at stake, t.v. cameras rolling, you simply cannot act the same way you would on the street.

Bottom Line: Artest was wrong.
