Depends on what your doing with it.
If your copying movies its not as easy as copying a cd. you have to download programs to decrypt it, then to extract it, then to encode it.
Blank DVDS are far from being cheap. But if you think youll use it enough, then go buy one. I bought one, and found that i really didnt use it a whole lot, so i returned it.

DVDs have some sort of encryption on them so you cant extract them onto your computer.
Its been awhile so i cant give you a specific program. But make sure you have alot of hard drive space, because once you extract the movie onto your computer it takes alot of space.

I have 1 advice:
Buy one with as big harddrive as possible.
80 gig will last you a long time, but if you plan on taping shows or movies/porns or something, then bigger is better..
I see they have some with 250 gig, they're pricey, but getting cheaper by the minute.
I guess that in April-May, harddrive DVD-burners will be 30-40% cheaper than they are now.
The 300 and 400 gigs that they introduce now will make the 80, 120, 160 & 250 a LOT cheaper, so I would wait a little if I was you.. might buy me on myself.
