Doggfather is the shiiiiet.!  "Sixx Minutes" w Tray Deee and "Downtown Assasins" are just sick. Paid the Cost and even R &G take the backseat to this.  Snoops best album without Dre.

doggystyle is what 'classic' GANGSTA rap should be
last meal is what 'classic' gangsta/intelligent rap should be

doggfather is a good album, but last meal blows it out of the water in my mind... and just barely beats out doggystyle

Personally I don't think the whole LP is a classic, but there definately are straight up classic songs there. Vapors, Gold Rush, Downtown Assasins... 8)

The BIGGEST problem with this album isn't the beats or the lyrics.

It's the fact that NO ONE knows how to mix Snoop's vocals better than Dre. Snoop's voice is too low in the mix on nearly every track on this album. Listen to Snoop on a D-R-E track and then listen to him on a Pooh production - Pooh had no idea how to make his vocals sit in the mix right. Fucked up the whole feel of the album for me.

last meal is what 'classic' gangsta/intelligent rap should be

Am I the only one who struggles to see how Last Meal was intelligent rap?

On topic, Doggfather is a dope album, it was always fall into the same category as Nas's It Was Written, because although they were both dope albums they were disappointments compared to the albums they followed, meaning that people never really gave them the credit they deserved.

My favorite Snoop album.

Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.

This thread has been made about 5 times in the past couple years, but yeah, it IS a classic, or at least a personal classic to me.  Downtown assassins, wake up (OJ)- tray deee RIPS that shit!!!!
the album is listenable from front to back, not one skipper!  I actually didnt like the album at first, it was so different from what i expected-- when the albium was released we were all expectinjg dre beats and shit, so it was a letdown at first to say the least.  However, back then without internet you didnt have access to lots oif new shit so we kept listening to it, and it became a classic in my eyes
