where 6 players from the black sox were paid to lose the 1919 world series. it was really 5 since shoeless joe jackson never actually participated, based upon his stats.....ive also read numerous times he never took any money or agreed to blow the games.

exactly, he tried giving the money back, he went comisky to tell him about what was going on an he basically told him to fuck off.  Shoeless Joe had the best stats out of both teams.  But sadly he was guilty by association.
