ATLANTA -- A man in Atlanta dressed as Santa Claus has been charged with assault for using a board to strike a 74-year-old woman in the face and head.

Police said Elkin Donnie Clarke also allegedly threatened to hit a second woman who stepped in to get him to stop hitting the woman, who was knocked unconscious. The second woman was not injured.

Clarke told police that the injured woman had taken 29 sealed boxes of chocolates worth $145 from him. But a police spokesman said none of the witnesses confirmed that accusation.
