PS3 expected cost

so the prices looks like it's in the $500 range...more than likely over $500

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It now appears that Sony may opt for a compromise price-wise, according to the Mainichi Daily News. An article which ran on the Japanese newspaper's Web site the PlayStation 3 could potentially sell for under $500. "The new machine, which will have a higher performance capacity than personal computers and provide sophisticated movie-quality images, will be priced at less than 50,000 yen each, according to [Sony] officials," said the paper.

At today's exchange rate, 50,000 yen is $465.58--more than the $299 many expect the Xbox 360 to sell for, but less than the $699 to $799 PS3 price tag many had feared. If Sony follows the pattern it set which the PSP, which sells for around $190 in Japan and $249 in the US, the console will likely be slightly costlier stateside.

As of press time, Sony officials were unavailable for comment on the Mainichi Daily News article.

that shit will not be $500. There has never been a console that cost that much when it began, so why would sony do that now. The only reason that I can think of is if it could do more than play games, music and video. Am I missing something?

its totally legit.

the proof comes in 1 hyphenated word:  BLU-Ray

it will be the first blu-ray player out, remember when it dropped and DVDs were still kinda new and u couldnt get a cheap ass DVD player like u can now?    A lot of peeps got PS2 jus to play DVDs and this will happen with blu-ray as the blu-ray disc becomes the new standard.

Yeah, you're missing alot.  Read up on the neo geo.  Then, read up on the graphics capabilities of the PS3, it's graphics processors alone combine to cost over a grand.

what is BLU-ray
It's the new format that Sony is trying to push.  They are discs that can hold about 8 times more information than a DVD and they are they same size.
