one more point of interested for those of you bent on dre hating..

check xxplosive, and then check bumpy's lament i bet you cant even find where dre sampled it

sooo just for all u out there... when erykah badu used the same beat she did SAMPLE dre more so than she sampled Issac hayes

dre took hayes' beat and got real creative with it, then badu just used what dre had made...

its not strictly a sample, its an interpolation.

i heard that its actually a sample of a cover by someone.

I knew "Bag Lady" contained elements (not samples) of "Bumpy's Lament", but as I don't actually know what "Bumpy's Lament" sounds like I can't tell whether Dre did infact use elements also. But I guess I was nieve in thinking just because Dre didn't credit anyone that it was one of HIS more original creations. I wish he would just bloody credit everyone for the sake of discussions like this!  ;D But "Xxplosive" is still a Dre (& Mel Man) beat, no matter what, he still produced it, samples or not.

I think that if you take one of the 'O's' out of 'Good' it's 'God', if you add a 'D' to 'Evil' it's the 'Devil'. I think some cool motherfucker sat down a long time ago and said 'let's figure out a way to control motherfuckers'.

Yeah, Dre took barely a bar of Bumpy's Lament and chopped it up. If you wanna compare, I think Lil' Kim just straight looped the beat on DRUGS, but uh... don't tell anyone I knew that.  ;) Anyway, to clear up where it's from , it's off the Shaft soundtrack.

Also, the beat that Badi sings over is exact to "Xxplosive," she took it from Dre even though he sampled it, cause she credits him on the album.

How does the beat sound in comparison to the one that it got sampled from?

No i know for a fact that it is a very old song...and next time i see the ad i am gonna get that songz title and prove the fuckin lot of u rong...

the beat is exactly the same but dre's sounds fresher, remastered in a sense but it is exactly the same. if dre polished the beat up and sum cunt used the polished beat then they have 2 credit dre anyways...but i know for a fuckin fact this aint a dre beat...

Its quite different, esp the higher pitch sounds.

Someone said a while back (on the now dead :( 'crates' mailing list) that Dre sampled a cover of the isaac hayes track.

yeah... the bassline is the same.

but the higher end stuff is played with some kind of organ in the original, the notes are a lot lot slower.

this 'soul mann and the brothers' version (i've never been able to find) allegedly plays them exactly as they are on Dre's (and therefore Erykah's) version.

dont know how much Dre/Mel etc have sped it up though.

that sucks. i always thought xxplosive was an original composition. the bassline is completely jacked and they just replayed the organ loop on a guitar.

Dre is dope and all, and I love what he does with his samples, but he should give credit in his album notes when it's necessary. especially when he was talking all that yap about how sampling is wack and played out.

BTW if you thought Lets Get High was an original beat too, check out Backstrokin by Fatback.
