Why do some of ya'll think lyrics should =sales? (ras kass vs. the Game)

 I mean, to get one thing straight, RAS KASS ain't NEVER gonna blow up.  I love dude, one of my favourite rappers of all time, but he doesn't have ANY charisma, his flow  is average at times, and he's got a very normal voice.  Some rappers ain't never gonna blow up, like Crooked I.  Dope rapper, but horrible voice and overall average.

Is the Game as dope as Ras Kass on the m-i-c?  Of course not, but ya'll know he's got 10 times the charisma and hustle that Ras Kass has, and he's got a unique (although sometimes annoying) voice.  Add to that an ear for commerical music (and Dre), and it makes sense.

Rappers like Ras Kass sound utterly stupid trying to make commerical ass songs, he needs to stick with some SOul on Ice or Interview with a Vampire shit, its too bad he ain't gonna blow but quite obvious.  I pray to god Ras Kass does not sign with Aftermath, he'd never drop an album and if he did it wouldn't sell no matter what they did to it.............

I jsut think its mad funny how everyone thinks they;re favourite artist could/should blow up, when in reality there is a reason why they not selling records.  Last EMperor is probably my favourite emcee, but dude could NEVER go platinum, its just te way thhe game is.

The thing is.. people believe "skill + complexity should = sales"... but as we all know the public is dumb.. not in a "they're ALL stupid" sense (although the ignorant bigoted and blind fan boy will spout this as the reason). but the truth is that such a large diverse target audience will have only certain things in common with each other.. thus things being dumbed or toned down aren't necessarily done because people won't understand, but because more common and more appealing elements that appear to a broader audience will sell more.

If a Nas can sell, so could a Ras Kass. They're not so far off. Both have great lyrics, aren't very animated and have HORRIBLE ears for beats. Difference is, Nas had a Columbia backing, Ras didn't.

But, Game has more overall appeal than anything. His voice isn't very unique, it's like Banks mixed with Shyne. His flow isn't amazing. His lyrics aren't that great. But, his presence on the mic is what makes him a big sell. Much like the Diplomats, Game DOES have a good ear for beats and is so cocky on the mic, you just grow to like him.

The people buying the record DO NOT care what Game is saying in his lyrics, which is where rappers like Rassy fail. They care that there's hot beats and catchy hook, something the Documentary had (Thanks 50!!!!)

Btw, Crooked I has a much better voice than Game. He just is making the wrong kind of music.

Ive never really got into artists like Rass Kass and Canibus because they mostly use metaphores and are not good song makers.  You cant play there music at a party or pretty much anywhere unless your by yourself.  Sure, they say some intelligent things but I dont believe and/or agree with a lot of the shit they say either.

I would consider Common a great lyricst because he can make great songs aswell and speak on real issues.  Putting 30 words together that rhyme doesnt mean your the best lyricst especially if your talking about Pluto the stars and the moon.

Seriously,thats the truth.Ras seems like he's lost,like he doesnt know what direction he is heading.First he gets on beats by Premier,than he gets on one produced by Kon Artis & finally one by Rick Rock.He sounds so corny on commercial beats,his voice definately isnt made for those tracks.Plus Rassy's flow is pretty so-so He used to have a way better flow.

crooked i has one of the most versatile flows in hip-hop. his voice isnt that unique but as far as radioplay goes, that doesnt matter as much as u think. jay-zs voice is pretty fuckin terrible, even his fans admit that. but thats not why they listen to him.

not including soul on ice, hes shown a lot of charisma in his albums. and he has a good voice, with a very conceited, sarcastic tone. ill agree that his flow can be average tho.

Ras Kass just as a horrible flow with no structure in his lyrics. His vocabular and rhymes are advanced of course, but he has no structure in his lyrics whatsoever. They mostly lack what you call a scheme. It's like he wrote it as a normal text like for a column or so that also rhymes lol, not like for a fucking song. The pauses he tends to make after each line really don't help either. Game is far behind Ras when it comes to big words or some shit, but when it comes to riding a beat properly the Game shits all over Ras Kass. Face it.

Just for the record, I'd take Ras Kass(in his prime) over Game any day.  BUt like UKnowWhatITis said, Ras kass is straight lost.  And Crooked I most definitely has one of the worst voices in the game.

SGV: you compared NAs to Ras Kass, i see where you're coming from.  I was shocked Nas ever became popular in the first place after Illmatic--- its cool to like this cd now but i bought it in grade 9 and all my friends tought it was wack!  It never went platinum unitl like two years ao or some shit.   AS for Ras Kass though, his voice isn't as tight as Nas, and Nas has a better flow and subject matter.  BUt if you went straight wordplay, Ras kills anyone. 

AS for Jay having a wack voice?  One of my favourites in hiphop, plus the flow is !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ras Kass is like E-40, either you get it or you don't, i mean you cant feed a baby a steak...Theres so much that makes a dope MC...IMO , Game is a dope MC, he has charisma and lyrics and knows what to talk about, he shits on a lot of people in the industry these days, but....Ras Kass could be where Nas is at, but his choice of Radio singles, sound like radio singles, i mean "Back It Up" at the time sounded like "I Cant Deny It" by Fabolous with Nate Dogg on the hook, and Ras had Kokane on his hook, he isnt reinventing the wheel...i mean shit NAS made a hit with "I Can" a straight non-commercial single and subject matter, and not all his beats are wack, shit when he picks a dope beat, he fuckin kills it..."Get Down", "LAst Real Nigga ALive" those songs shit on some of Ras Kass best shit, because Nas is talking about Nas and flowing with the beat...while Ras KAss best songs are when he actually becomes himself "Happiness" "Van Gogh", and when he drops a song like "H2O Proof" and "Goldyn Chyld" he makes every one sound like shit! but he doesnt do that any more, he drops tracks with producers who make fake ass Neptunes and Timbaland beats....Ras Kass needs to take his time in his songs and cover all the bases, and release "Goldyn Chyld Premier Remix" in CDQ already!!!
