Now I know Im gonna get some heat for this, but what Ive heard of him, he aint all that great IMO, granted Ive only heard about 5 songs, and I hear he is like the G.O.A.T lyrically, but Im a beat man myself, people say Dre is wack, but I like him cos he raps over a funky beat, now that doesnt mean I like people like Ja Rule and Nelly, but I must admit I do like a few of Ja's songs,

Well dont hate on me, I know your all very knowledgable about rap, and no things I dont, but I need to hear some more of Rakim before I say I like him...........but lyrics wise, who I must say I like are 2 Pac and Biggie and I dont think anyone will touch them when it comes to lyrics!!!!

a lot of this has to be taken in context.

yes correct, these days other people are up to the standard.

BUT...

when Rakim first dropped with songs like 'Paid In Full' etc no one had ever grabbed the mic witha style like his, no one used metaphors like him.
he created the blueprint for modern lyracists.

that pretty much sums up why you think that way....if you never knew who eazy was and i gave you 5 of his shittiest songs i'm pretty sure you'd be on the same tip about him

i didnt like him that much either earlier
but a couple of days ago i got Paid In Full and my whole attitude towards him has changed. its a fuckin classic.

yeah do yourself a favor and get all his classics wit eric b and then hollllla.....overseer i still think hes da dopest in tha game....he only had a lil verse on addictive but he came off like he was in mad control of any era of time.....plus ive been hearin the watcher part 2 is gonna be leakin out soon home slice........rakim is the master, aldo capone, the god.......the best lyricist so far to hold a mic......holllllllllla
