Nelly Says He Was Surprised By KRS-One Diss
« on: April 19, 2002, 06:42:52 AM »
-- Nelly explained his reaction to KRS-One's song "Clear 'Em Out" Tuesday (April 16) when he appeared on BET's 106th & Park.

According to a spokesperson for BET, Nelly said he was surprised and not sure why KRS-One dissed him on the song, which appears on The Difference, a compilation scheduled to be released on EMI/Official Jointz in June.

In "Clear 'Em Out," KRS-One makes an apparent blanket attack on egotistical, commercially successful rappers, rhyming, "Sales don't make you the authority/It means you sold out to the white majority/What you know about seniority/You ain't major/Your whole album appeals to little second graders."

Though KRS-One doesn't reference Nelly in the song, industry insiders speculate that KRS-One's lyrics were written as a reply to Nelly's song "#1" from the Training Day soundtrack. On "#1," Nelly raps that he is tired of "people judging what's real hip-hop," adding that most of the flack comes from jealous, less-successful artists.

Nelly said he believes that the KRS-One attacks were in fact a response to "#1," and that he has tremendous respect for the artist, and understands that KRS has helped pave the way for his career, the BET spokesperson added. However, Nelly added that he is a man who reacts when he is smacked.

A spokesperson for Nelly could only confirm that the rapper said he had tremendous respect for KRS-One, was surprised by the news of the diss, and had not heard for himself what KRS-One allegedly said about him.

^exactly...he's callin nelly n shit cos he's all comersial but thats exactly what he's tryna do himself really...

and at least nelly proves that you don't have to act all gangsta and shit just to sell...and if u think he acts hard...then he aint just plain fake...cos it's all true...he got kicked outa 3 schools cos of violence and even been arested for the shit. unlike eminem for example...every1 hates on nelly...eminem is comercial...acts hard...and he got beat up all his life...that's fucked up cos i hate a bully but i have to throw that in there. oh and i'll also mention that the one spot of violence we do hear about eminem he used a pistol to beat down an unarmed man...bitch...

anyways thats off point...nelly might only sell to the white majority...but at least he aint fake and at least he duz sell. he don't act the authority anyways...and he mixed rap with pop cos he knew it would sell

all about the $$$

so don't hate on nelly just cos he sells...and i aint hiz dickrida...cos i don't really think 2 much of him myself!

Man I doubt KRS was even thinking about fame. First off, Nelly says, "I'm tired of people judging what's real hip-hop" who judges "real" hip-hop more than Kris. "Half of the time it be them niggaz who's album flops" KRS hasn't had a great commercial hit beside Step Into A World since the 80's. This being the 2000's, it's been along time, so you can say his a flop. "Boat done sank and it ain't left the dock/Mad cause I'm hot; HE JUST - mad cause he not" KRS likes certained rappers, and don't like others, KRS knows this, so hearing these lines struck a cord in Kris, even if it wasn't to him. His ego, and self consciense allows him to think all this was to him. Maybe it isn't, but I don't care. Kris's lines where to Nelly, but in the same way #1 was to KRS. You don't have to think about it, but you can tell the other will take it as a personal diss. It's all subliminal.

lol if nelly tries to come back, and then KRS-One comes back with something else, hes gonna kill him lol
i'm just fuckin sick of nelly, i gotta give him his props tho for selling so many albums tho
about the real hip-hop thing
KRS is so much more real than nelly and obviously more talent IMO, hes considered as a legend, so we'll just have to see what happens

KRS-One realistically is a nobody...did i say he sucks? no--but is he a nobody? YES>  Plus his whole angry black man that hates white schtick is old.  And his new gospel rap album blows.  That being said-I dont like either Nelly or KRS-One..and a battle with them would be atroscious (sp.),
