Is it just me or does every single artist
« on: October 16, 2005, 05:36:29 PM »
Put a CD that has nothing on it but guest stars?  Maybe i'm just overlooking things but alot of new albums has like 40 guests on it for a 8 track cd.

I remember when a collaboration with another artist was a great thing, now it happens all the time.,

Real talk! But the fault cant always lay with the artist. The way retail is now, if you dont have the hotest and latest artist on ur shit, they not bringing many units in, unless you got some massive promotion goin down (MTV, BET ETC, ETC) So alotta folks is doin this just to get some pull through at retail, but i admit it's a very wacked trend.

not EVERY artist. i liked it when Kurupt did it with "Tha Streetz iz a Mutha" and Dre with "2001" cuz they brought the whole family back together. but other that that i dont really like when an artist has somebody on every song

as far as Warren G: he's done that on damn near every album

Its overdone. But personally, when I want to hear Dre, I want to hear Snoop and Dre. When I want to hear Daz and Kurupt, I want to hear them with DPGC. Alot of rappers are at their best when they with other ppl. But yes, its way overdone. Quik shouldn't have put TI or Game on his album.

Yeah....I mean in the business, it's been like this since the 70s and really the 80s...the companies always encourage, and sometimes force artists to have featured guests. In some cases, it's favor for favor, where Producer A will give Rapper A a track for litle or nothin if Rapper A agrees to drop a free verse on Producer A's album. In some cases, collaborations end up great, but only when the chemistry is right...I've heard collabs between a good rapper n an average rapper that ended up bein dope as hell, then I've heard collabs between two good or even great rappers/producers that ended up bein average ass songs.

Personally, I don't think it's anything wrong with Quik havin TI or Game on the album. That helps Quik a lot havin TI because he's the "King of the south" and a lotta people down south love TI but don't even know Quik is still around, so when they hear the song they are like damn Quik is still doin it? And with him havin Game, that's no problem at all because it's all Compton, and Game is the biggest new CPT artist since Quik and they are cool so why not have em hook up?

Im cool with that, the most terrible is when somebody rap with someone who has no fucking chemistry, this is ruinin the single &i heard many artists singles where there is no good chemistry,or it dont sound godd in a certain way.If u bring someone on a single let him come for something, for example because he has a very different flow than u or he can both sing hooks & rap verses etc...
I disagree the TI pick for quik's album, that was very intelligent,Ti bring something else in this track that quik couln't handle correctly himself.
matter of taste i presume...

it depends whos album it is, when i hear dre, im thinkin dre and the whole camp, an entire album with just dre on the mic would be pretty weak.  but when u pick up say aghostface cd and every track is a collab a new listener wouldnt evenknow who the fuck ghostface is when that dudes got talent out the ass.
