Game Taking Over Atlantic City

ATLANTIC CITY-Rapper The Game hates the word hope.

"We don't hope anything," he said. "We do. Hope is just a fancy word for not making it happen."

What Game was getting done Friday was the opening of his new studio, Black Wall Street East, on Florida Avenue.

Next is a planned development project in Pleasantville that would be an urban center and include a recording studio, distribution center and retail stores.

"Our intent is to create anywhere between 60 and 80 jobs," said John Abbey, whose Viper Construction is behind the urban center, which is still in the works.

But it was Viper's communications director, Ron Kollman, who gave the plan a direction - to Pleasantville, his hometown.

"I've been steering the company and everybody toward Pleasantville," he said.

Kollman's is not the only homecoming in the project, however.

Growing up on Florida Avenue, Anthony Torres remembers neighbors complaining about his loud music.

But as he sat behind the controls in the Black Wall Street East Studio on that same street Friday, Torres wasn't worried about the volume.

Instead he was laying down a track for Game, which he played back at full blast as the rapper exited the sound booth.

"I rose from nothing to working with the greatest rapper in the world," said Torres, who as the Nu Jerzey Devil is Game's producer. "It feels so good to come here where I grew up."

He was also proud to bring Game, who was making his first visit to Atlantic City.

While Game doesn't believe in hope, he believes in people who have dreams and don't necessarily take the traditional road to get there.

"People think Black Wall Street is about being black," he said. But it's not about race, "it's people who go under the radar and get things done. People who have dreams. We provide outlets."

While Game is laid back outside the studio, he is sure of the success his new venture.

"The plans that me and John have, we're going to blow the top off Jesus' house," Game said.

"He blows it off," Abbey said. "I rebuild it."

Game, who as Jayceon Taylor was a member of the Los Angeles gang the Bloods, said there also will be mentoring programs, in which he plans to be involved.

"It's not about John and Jayceon," he said. "It's about the future. It's bigger than music."

His inspiration is his 2-year-old son, Harlem, who was never too far away in the studio Friday.

"I think everyone should be the captain of his own ship," Game said. "I'm steering this boat. This Titanic does not sink."

Good to hear that BWS is trying to do some big things.
It's also nice to see that Game continues to stay focused on his future & not on his beef with 50...it's time to move forward.
