E-40 and Too Short are pretty much considered the too biggest pioneers in the history of the bay and I always find it so funny when people consider short dog the better rapper. Ive got into a habit of listening to every song i have that features both of them and i love listening to their verses back to back to hear how much of a more skilled rapper e-40 is over too short. i love both artists but im just saying i find it hard to believe how ne1 can say too short is the better rapper

Too Short has a pretty conventional style of rapping, so he appeals to more people, but I like 40 better because he flips shit no one else even thinks about. Aside from his slang, he's got waaaaay more presence on the mic.

if you can actually hear E-40 he always rhymes and has clever shit to say and he says shit in funny ways

a definite pioneer, to me he is the definition of being an "original" rapper the way he made up his style

he's too West Coast for people who don't live here and don't understand the slang....

I don't know...40 Water is ORIGINAL...but sometimes he is on some other sh*t and I really can't get into it....Short on the other hand...just spits the realness...no gimmicks...I feel like 40 puts waaaay too much on the slang...I mean...I'd rather pride myself on making good music, rather than the latest ebonics.   

And I'm not in any way hating on 40...I was BORN AND RAISED in The Bay !!

Kool Keith spoke very highly of Bay Area artists. Keith noted that he was extremely impressed with the independent record labels that acts like E-40 had established and that they had laid down some serious groundwork for folks to follow. Going the independent route and cutting out the middle man. Bay Area artists had figured it out that they could make as much selling 20 thousand units as opposed to someone who is signed to a major and sells 200 thousand units...
