Furcal Signs with Dodgers
« on: December 03, 2005, 07:59:40 PM »
FUCK YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!

Furcal a Dodger: 3 Years, $40 Million
By Steve Henson, Times Staff Writer
Free agent Rafael Furcal has agreed in principle to a three-year contract with the Dodgers that would make him one of the highest paid shortstops ever, a source close to the negotiations said Saturday. The deal would guarantee Furcal, 28, nearly $40 million.

He is expected to take a physical Sunday and a news conference could be held in Dallas on Monday, the first day of baseball's winter meetings.

good signing........ but if they play Izturis at 2nd base when he's healthy that's such bullshit, Izturis is so young and probably the best defensive SS in the MLB

Javi, no way you think Furcal is a better SS than Cesar..... or do you?  :-\

^^^^ yeah, just realized that..... $40 mil, he ain't worth that shit.....

finally Fag McCourt opens up some money for the team and they blow it on one guy.... knowing McCourt, there isn't gonna be another big signing this year.....

hope they think Furcal is gettin em to the WS  ::)

seriously though, it's good that they at least got somebody good and showed that they would sign a big player...

but I'ma be real pissed if they try to put Izturis at 2nd base..... that would be the dumbest shit..... ask anybody who knows baseball, ask Vin Scully, Izturis is much more fitting than Furcal at SS

I'd assume....  Izturis SS, Furcal 2B, Kent 1B   would actually be pleasing

Izturis' future is unknown.  TJ surgery for a SS...really weird.  So its unknown how his arm will react when he does come back.  Furcal's isnt as good as izturis but hes up there, and his Offense makes up for the small difference in defense.  He's a career 5.3 WARP player so his actual value is 9-10 million a year.  Remember, we only have him for 3 years so we had to overpay to get him and it wont block our prospects

If we would like to maximize our production we should keep Choi/RH platoon partner at 1B and leave kent at 2nd.   The team is interested in signing Mueller or Randa.  so our IF shoud look like this and would produce the most like this...

C Navarro
1B Choi/RH PLatoon Partner
2B Kent
SS Furcal
3B Mueller or Randa

If you move Kent to First once Izturis is healthy so that iZturis gets to play 2nd...the offense will hurt a ton

Furcal's isnt as good as izturis but hes up there

yeah he's still a bomb SS, but it just seems that Izturis is more of SS and if you were to move one of em to 2nd, I feel Izturis would be affected more and Furcal would do fine (not that Izzy couldn't play 2nd, it's just principle on how good he is)

SS is a very important position, it's always key to have a guy like Izturis who blocks his gaps as good as anyone, it makes your defense a lot better and Izturis' range is much much better than Furcal

due to the TS surgery who knows what he'll be like, you gotta give him a shot though at SS, if your the coaches you can't just say "we're sticking you at 2nd cuz we don't know about your arm"

I doubt it will make a big difference..... I mean, Gagne had TS and he's gonna be throwing heat, I'd be more concerned about his shit getting fucked up again

I wouldn't worry about Izturis just cuz he had that surgery, it's strange for a SS but if majority of pitchers can come back after the surgery, I think an infielder will do alright...

I just hate to think that they're gonna stay with Furcal over Izturis at the position.... it sounds fuckin ridiculous

I remember Ned Colletti saying something that although it sounds crazy but that SS's stress their arms more than pitchers.  Ill try to find the interview where he says this.  It's either at the Dodgers home page or I found it at Dodger Thoughts.  And to Furcal's defense...he covers a whole lot on Defense.  Statistically he was the best defensive SS in the NL, according to sabermetrics stats on D.  One of the reasons why is that he cut down on his throwing errors, which has been a problem for him but he greatly improved last year

the guy who has the worst batting average at Dodger Statium among players who have had at least 75 at bats, is Furcal. Great signing by the Dodgers there, sign someone who has the wosrt batting average at Dodger Statium

Talk about small sample size.

Talk about small sample size.

The min at bats was probably more, but the # was gone through too fast as I was writing my post. But he does have the worst batting average of any active player at Dodger Statium. The sample I gave you was defintely too low as opposing players have had more than 75 at bats, but that also means that any first or second years players would need at least 75 at bats in Dodger Statium
