Tha Row on cover of new XXL (out now)
« on: March 24, 2002, 10:58:27 AM »
just got the new XXL with Suge, Nina, Crooked I, Eastwood, and Kurupt on the cover.  I hate to dissapoint the Suge/Tha Row haters, but this cover story is a very positive story, like the one that appeared in King Magazine a few months ago.  Many good points in here made.  One quote that I found very interesting, and makes me anticipate Suge releasing new albums even more is what XXL had to say bout the new music:

"But what everyone- from his detractors to his fans, his old artists to his new ones- really wants from Knight is for him to put up or shut up; to make hits....A taste of the new music from Tha Row proves that Knight may just be able to make an impact on the music scene above and beyond his acerbic, jaw-dropping commentary.  Tha Row's new material is possibly some of the best stuff to come from the West Coast in years and marks a serious evolution for the company.  Where Death Row was more about music, attitude and a lifestyle, Tha Row has MC's, guys that can and will spit flames.

Suge on Nas:  I'ma do some stuff with Nas in the future...I don't want to ruin the suprise

Suge on Kurupt's homies: I'm not here to choose his friends.  And if any of them are real friends, they gonna respect him and respect where he be and stuff he wanna do.  I know they didn't want to battle against Kurupt lyrically cuz none of them guys can fuck with him on the mic.  And, you know, physically he's on Tha Row now.  It's not like they can jump him and rush him.  That'll be stupid.

He also mentions how he decided NOT to sign Ray J and how there's another artist, a "Row Princess" that's ready to be released.  It's a very good article, and I know the Suge haters won't like it because there is no mention of Snoop baing a coward or Dre being a bitch and it focuses on the future of the label.

i agree with the most things you said, but I think ppl WILL like it for the fact that he's talkin about the label for once and not about snoop or dre. im not a death row hater, but i just hate it when suge is talkin about them and dissin their careers in every damn interview. but as long as he's doin his thang and moving things, i respect him.

Tight! Crooked I must have an amazing album if XXL is impressed. I don't really care about Suge, just his artists. The only major problem I have with Tha Row is that they take forever to drop albums. Crooked I, Kurupt and Eastwood are the only artists I'll be supporting from that company. They need to focus on more raw MC's than "princesses". I gotta cop that issue.

As long as the row puts out good music and puts an end to the stupid Dre and Snoop bashing I will probably check for them...Kurupt is one of my favorite artists and Crooked I is dope...

sounds tight as fuck, although im not a big fan of tha row, simply cuz they always diss snoop, dre etc., this article sounds tight. This is what suge really has to do, focus on the label and making big hits and money. Instead of only dissing make something happen. He has a lot of artists and yet he only brought out a best of snoop album and dogg pound 2002 sice he is out of jail. That aint even his shit no more.

Btw what happened to lil' c style? I havent heared a thing from him since suge is back. What's up with that? Lil' c style is dope as fuck, someone have a idea what happened?

Nas working with the row, sounds interesting. But Suge might be lying ya never know. I guess ya just have to sit back and see what happens. I gotta say that Crooked i's new album is my most anticipated cd at the moment.
Thanks 4 the tight article, it sounds good.

i'm not hating but talk is cheap, until he can deliver a quality album like everyone who has left the row have, DR is still a fallen empire, again i'm not hating but dre and snoop  have proven that they can succeed without suge and DR, now it's time to see if suge can succeed without them

one thing that i find funny is where suge says   "I know they didn't want to battle against Kurupt lyrically cuz none of them guys can fuck with him on the mic" i dunno about y'all but either suge hasn't been able to hear kurupt's last  album and apperances  where he's lyricallly subpar  compared to xzibit, tray deee, bad azz, Em, hitt, ras kass, saafir, tash, j-ro, wc, Who are all down with kurupt and can be thrown into that friends list, or he just doesn't even know these artist exist, i love kurupt but y'all got to admit that kurupt has fallen off more than snoop , even unbiased people on sohh.com will tell you that , he went from having rakim like skills to having almost nelly like skills in the past 1 and a half years

again i'm not hating AT ALL , becauese this is the honest to god truth y'all

I feel ya homie...but how much of this falloff has to do with the fact that Kurupt maybe hasn't had any motivation in his life as far as being the one.
On Deathrow he was the illest...Let's face it.
When he was making his shit on the solo tip he was an average mc.
He now has the burden to be the illest again, He's on the Row...he must come with the real or he won't be accepted by the masses.
it's like we expect more from Kurupt now that he is back in his root's.
I have nothin' but faith in Kurupt, I know when and if his "new" Tha row shitt drop's it'll make more than our Mouth drop to the floor it'll make the whole world admire the skillz that Kurupt has always had, when a man is pushed to his limit's he can come up with masterful shitt, Right now Kurupt has alot to prove, and I will say that on his new shitt, alot of muthaphucca's will change they note on him.
Everyone know's what he is capable of....And when we over accede our limit's..we excel.

I feel where you coming from but you have to give Tha Row a chance because they havnt even had a chance to release any solos. I say Dre is a sucess but Snoop not really. Look at all his label releases and they almost all flopped. As an entertainer Snoop is cool, but he's not a very good business man when it comes to promoting.

I know Kurupt fell off and his last album was trash. But Isn't it kinda Ironic that when he wasn't signed back to Tha Row how most of you were saying how good he still was and how great Space Boogie was? LOL Kurupt fell off more then Snoop? Ok I leave that one along. Do it hurt you to give Tha Row props even when they speaking on postive shit about they future?

snoop is still very much a success IMO opinion becuase he's still selling double platnum with his albums, and all of his releases on dogg house have been really great except the bones sndtrk, the first eastsidaz was amazing and a very good album, bad azz's album was westcoast album of the year last year imo, dueces and trays was aright and doggys angels...uh well that had good production lol. and if you are were from cali you'd know how much snoop has take back the west since dropping tha last meal, plus all of the albums he's released have gone gold except doggstyle's angles which is excellent considering the fact he was distributing through tvt whose poor as fuck and priority whose on the verge of going out of bus. plus i measure success in quality not quantity

and about space boogie, i've always maintained that it was trash i'll go back into archives if you want and proove my point lol

i doubt kurupt will all of the sudden be great again just becuase he's on the row, seriously how would this happen unless crooked i started writing his lyrics?
