M Dogg's Ol' Skool Artist of the Week - Eazy E
« on: January 05, 2006, 08:07:56 AM »
I am not doing this because some wannabe fan wanted me to, I'm doing Eazy E this week 'cause it seems his legacy is the one that is seperating the west right now. With Game and Lil' E going at it, menting Eazy E, I think that Mr. Eric Wright is the Ol' Skool artist of the week.

They call him the Godfather of Gangsta rap, and though he wasn't the main artist behind NWA, he was the mind that brought the FBI, president George Bush Sr., and most of white society to it's knees with fear of what this man will do. Eazy E was not a rapper, and he was not a producer, but he was a businessman, trying to make his drug money into a legit record label. He signed an Eastcoast group called HBO, and him and Rod De Vu made the Duece. But it was not until he was able to sign Ice Cube from the group CIA and World Class Wreckin' Cru's producer Dr. Dre that things really started to pick up. Ice Cube wrote a song, Boyz N Tha Hood, and Dr. Dre produced the beat for HBO, but the eastcoast group refused to do it, so Dre conviced Eazy E that his childlike voice would go great with the song. Dre and Cube coached him through the song and the rest as they say is history. The song lead of the EP, NWA and the Posse, as NWA at the time was Easy E, Ice Cube who wrote all the lyrics for Eazy E, Arabian Prince who added known commercial success and did the song Panic Zone, and Dr. Dre produced all the beats. The EP went unnoticed, and Arabian Prince began to take a lesser role. Eazy E did not get discouraged, as he added MC Ren to help Ice Cube pen the rhymes, and DJ Yella from WCWC to help Dre with the beats. Also he signed Texas rapper, The DOC who also would help later in writing, and NWA was ready as they released the classic LP, Straight Outta Compton. With songs like Ruck Tha Police, NWA was messing with many elements they did not know able, as the FBI wrote them a warning, and later it was found the FBI had a hit out on the E.

Ice Cube shortly left the group, but not before helping Eazy write songs on his solo album Eazy Does It. Eazy E was becoming one of the more popular artis in Hip-Hop. With Eazy Does It and Straight Outta Compton released in 1988, that makes two classics Eazy E contributed to Hip-Hop's so called Goldyn Year. Eazy's star was rising, but with Ice Cube leaving, there was doubt.

Doubt was erased when NWA released Elif4zaggin in 1991, as NWA proved they were still the World's Most Dangerous Group, and then after Dre left that year, in 1992, Eazy released 5150 - Home of the Sick, and proved that without Dr. Dre on the beats and Ice Cube writing his lyrics, he can still get it done. Also, Eazy E stopped by the White House as he was invited to eat with the president as George Bush invited those who donated a lot of money. Little did they know that Mr. Wright was the Compton Thuggsta himself. Both Ice Cube and Dr. Dre would take shots at Eazy E now. But now with Above The Law, and DJ Yella helping him out, he recruited BG Knoccout and Dre'sta and released his responds to Dre's disses on the Chronic, with his Ep, It's On ([Dr. Dre) 187=Killum. Eazy was still getting it done, but many fans were split at who to support, the Doctor who brought many great beats and his new friendship with Ice Cube, or Eazy E and Ruthless Records, The split in loyaties hurt Eazy more, as Dre was attracting new fans with Snoop Doggy Dogg, while Eazy was depending more on his loyal fans.

Eazy later passed away from AIDS, and his beef with Dr. Dre still haunts him, as Dre knew they would make up and him and Cube all had dreams of reuniting NWA. Some songs were put together out of respect to Eazy, and Lil' E, Eazy E's son is now releasing a CD called Prince of Compton. The Game, Compton's new platnum superstar gives props to Eazy E regularly, and Cube and Ren and Dre all are interested in doing some NWA projects. Though he will never be confused with Rakim and 2Pac, Eazy E will always be remembered as the man who put the tools together to make Gangsta Rap's roots starting with NWA.
