Daz Announces 6 Finalists In 'DPG Idols' Search

In November of 2005, rapper/producer Daz Dillinger, Kurupt and Arnold White announced they were launching DPG Idols, a TV and online reality show that is seeking new artists to be included in the group DPGC. The contestants have been narrowed down to 6 finalists that represent different regions of the United States.

The finalists are Lix, Meko, Chaotic, J Tripz, Dangerous Rob and Brian Taylor. DPG Idols will be televised on DPG Television as well as streamed on the internet as webisodes.

“We want DPG to continue to live on. We know that we need some fresh new faces and new talent to bring the fire back into the group," Daz explained to AllHipHop.com. “Yes there will be drama, but our contest has a learning element that I don't think other reality shows have. We are actually training all the artists, [if] they make it or not, to be business savvy [and] artistically developed.”

Audience members will be able to participate in the grueling competition as they are invited to suggest missions, vote members off, and even get to give feed back live.

While contestants will be faced with seemingly impossible missions and the most eccentric methods of challenges, DPG maintains that each artist will walk away with solid skills and will make valuable connections with industry leaders.

The winner of contest will join DPGC family, as well as, win a record label deal.

DPG Idols will begin airing February 2006 and can be seen on http://www.d-p-g-c.com.

DPGC - Tha Dogg Pound Saga Continues

Daz and Kurupt dropped their first album, Dogg Food in 1995 on Suge Knight's Death Row Records. "Let's Play House" and "New York, New York," featuring Nate Dogg and Snoop, were notable hits off the "Dogg Food" release. After Dropping "Dogg Food", Daz and Kurupt dropped solo albums. Daz dropped "Retaliation, Revenge & Get Back" in 1998, and Kurupt dropped "Kuruption!" also that same year. The following year Kurupt dropped "Tha Streetz Iz a Mutha" while Daz dropped "R.A.W." After personal differences some made public through diss records, the duo are back together as DPGC preparing for an upcoming new release.

Q : Daz, whats up homie?

Daz : wassup, wassup

Q : Whats up, where's the Dogg Pound been?

Daz : You know just enjoyin that money, living off of it and I've been doing independant albums, I've been really getting it so I've been investibg my money in pressing machines, and you know just living the life in the south.

Q : Did dogg pound officially reunite, but did you guys ever really break up?

Daz : We had our little differences between, you know like 5 years, there was some feuding going on, we broke up, then we got it all back together, Kurupt came back into play and we here you know, like we never left, as soon as we got back together we knocked about 10 albums out.

Q : So you guys each individually had your own solo efforts how was that for you? you said you were doing well...

Daz : Independantly in put like 50 albums and was doing movies. right now he got his own label which we're distributing called pentagon records. we got a solo album on young gotti right now and its going to be out in march called same day different shit you can go to my website 'd-p-g-c.com' and you can download kurupts first single called 'yes im quicker', and we are going to shoot the video out this way a little bit.

Q : how has your life been after Deathrow?

Daz : My lifes been just taking care of my kid, my mom, my dad and running business and making money for the future.

Q : So was deathrow as notorious as the media made it seem?

Daz : It was going down over there, motherfuckers was getting they ass wooped, it was serious shit, but you got to be a survivor to survive.

Q : You guys are definitely survivors, since you're still making these albums

Daz : Yeah, we right here hanging with young chingys' and everybody.

Q : Are you guys still connected to Suge in anyway?

Daz : Nah

Q : So he not holding onto your your publishing, on some puff shit?

Daz : He dont own none of that shit.

Q : So apparently your relationship with Snoop is good?

Daz : We always gonna be doing our thing, thats my family, thats my cousin. We had our little feud back in the day, it wasnt about records or nothing, it was about you know...his momma told on me, that I was cheating and all hell broke loose you know how that go.

Q : (laughing) no doubt (laughing)

Daz : B*tch brought a gift over to my auntie house, snoop momma house, and then she told on me.

Q : wow

Daz : cause her and my wife were best friends,

Q : wow

Daz : but she my auntie, you suppose to be...

Q : How does that get stretch to you and snoop, you were mad at her, then he turned on you?

Daz : it was all the above man. my other cousin, Snoop brother jerry, I was on his ass too. it was alot of shit with suge at the time, he was trying to play both sides, trying to me and snoop feuding, and all this other shit....

(( Someone yells: KURUUUUUUUUPT! young gotti ))

Q : Kurupt just walked in.

Q : So Kurupt talk to me about your solo projects.

Kurupt : This would only be actually my fourth real solo album that I just did with Daz, the Young Gotti album, but its coming along good, can't complain.

Q : So how has your life been after the row?

Kurupt : Its been cool you know. I been making it man, Im back with my family thats the most important thing.

Q : So are you guys working on the next Dogg Pound project?

Kurupt : Thats right.

Daz : Right now.

Kurupt : Oh, its smoking too

Q : When can we expect that?

Daz : In March, April... around that time. we got Busta Rhymes, Pall Wall, David Banner...

Kurupt : smoking it up boy.

Daz : all the dpg's on there, production by Battle cat, some other people, you know just big time grinding.

Q : Is that coming out on one of your independants or are you going through a major on that project?

Daz : We going through Koch man. just a 2 album deal, compilation and this dogg pound album, then i got my solo stuff on So So Def on Virgin.

Kurupt : This is through Snoopys company, the Dogg Pound album me and Daz is doing, the Welcome to the Church album, thats all on Doggy Style. when we put out dillinger/gotti albums its really just me and daz and we do it independant, thats what the young gotti album is coming out on.

Q : So in 2006 what kind of music can we expect to hear from Dogg Pound?

Daz : A lot of bass banging, beating, a lot of aggression music, like just beating a motherfuckers car down. back in the day we was giving ya'll that smooth music and shit like that, but now we are going to give you some smooth aggravating music, like bass, EQ type shit.

Q : So you've been influenced from being down in the south?

Daz : Im a musician, so im influenced by rock'n'roll all that, its just about the kicks, the bass, the snare and i adapt real quick, i produced some stuff for T.I., Young Blood, JD you know whether im in the west, east it all just depends on where im at.

Q : What do you want to let the fans know about DPG that they don't know already?

Daz : That we are legendary in this game and ya'll should pick up all our past, present records

Kurupt : All that shit

Daz : Read up on us, because right now we about to start a new epidemic with just me and kurupt busting out cause really we never had a chance to really go out and be Daz and Kurupt, Its just like how Michael Jackson grew up but he never grew up, we were kids in this business. We were working so hard and because I was producing I never had a chance to do this, cause i was always in the studio, after i finished our album, I was working on tupac, working on snoop, working on the sound track, working on this so we never had a chance to go tour and let everybody know who we are.

Kurupt : Dogg Food was our time to wear both hats, producer as well as artist, but we never got the chance to prove that to the fullest, now just really getting the chance to do our thing together to the fullest, be artist, daz expanding his production, we bringing that Dogg Pound shit man, we coming with the real shit. So ya'll just look out for that Dogg Pound shit, look for the Dillinger/Gotti album, look out for that So So Def Daz Solo album, the Young Gotti Kurupt solo album, and the new DPGC album 'welcome to the church' look out for it, enjoy it, bang to it.

Q: WHAT IS YOUR POSITION AT DPGC RECORDS?

A:I AM VICE PRESIDENT /MARKETING AND PROMOTIONS

Q: WHAT IS YOUR ROLE IN THE DPGC IDOL CONTEST?

A: I AM CREATOR AND OVERSEER OF THE PROJECT... PRESENTING THE MATERIAL TO THE JUDGES AND MAKING SURE THINGS FLOW SMOOTH.

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU  LIKE TO ACHEIVE IN THE MUSIC BUSINESS?

A:I LIKE TO CRACK THE INDEPENDENT CHAIN WIDE OPEN, MOTIVATE ARTIST TO TAKE CONTROL OF THEIR OWN DESTINY..BRING THE MUSIC BACK TO RETAIL LOCATIONS. HELP ARTIST TO MAINTAIN MORE CREATIVE CONTROL. HELP GRASS ROOT ARTIST DEVOLOP, BRAND MARKETING AND HELPING ARTIST SUCCEED.IN THE BUSINESS

Q: WHO IS THE MOST INFLUENTIAL PERSON IN THE MUSIC BUSINESS TO YOU?

A:IT WOULD HAVE TO BE ERIC "EAZY E" WRIGHT.... A LEGEND

BIG A

Q: Shemia how did you get started w/DPGC?
A: I worked w/Virgin Records, I worked as a Product manager for Daz and broke off on my own and started working for him primarily.

Q: What is your role at DPGC?

A: I am Vice President of Creative Development as well Publicist for the Label.

Q: What made you all come up with the contest, who came up with the contest?

A: Big A really wanted to reach out to the community as well as Daz, and once they decided to do such, Kurupt was right on it. I also wanted to impact the community independently so me and Big A sat down and developed a show idea that could possibly help the artists. Artists believe that once they get on a label its cake walk, and this contest shows that this is not true, not if you want to get to Platinum status. Labels are very lazy, the employees are lazy and they don't have a vested interest, it's just a pay check. Those who really care for the artists are really lone rangers. At DPGC it's not a popularity contest, it's a real corporation and I love it. Daz did not have an easy road in his career, therefore he wants to make sure other artists have a chance.

Q: What type of character do you think a person has to stay on this label or win the contest?

A: Someone who has integrity, someone who is loyal and honest. We are different. We don't like people who backstab, or who are arrogant or have those attributes. We are all just down to earth people.

Q: I read your background, amazing Masters in Global Management (MBA) and consultant and writer, but I know as a woman it is hard and difficult to be in this industry especially a woman of color, what do you say to others out there that are trying to break into the industry?

A: Run. Don't try to break into this industry, break out of this industry it's corrupt it's filthy. Lock arms with the indie labels, they may not pay the billions of dollars but your integrity is still there, you can sleep at night and you will be rewarded in the long run. Create something different. So many people want to fit in. Don't want to fit in with people who are killing our community spiritually. This industry is filthy as a pig.

Q: Well ! Never one to bite your tongue. What are your latest adventures?

A: I am launching an indie label, I am launching a magazine and etc.

Q: Ok tell us about the magazine tell us about the venture, what will the label have? Hip Hop or?

A: I want healthy music. The magazine is about healthy living. That's all I will say for now.

Q: Back to the DPGC Idols, on television what do you think people will walk away learning, I read another interview and you said they will walk away learning something.

A: This is a learning mechanism, and the people can see it. I think they will learn about hard work and ethics. I think they will understand that this is a business and the videos are an illusion. Stars fall, don't strive to be a star, be a creator and have longevity. It is molded after Daz and his ability to bounce back even in adversity. We have some other projects coming soon as well I have to add Daz's mother is coming out strong, healthy music I can proudly say I am promoting that. But you will get to see a healthy and real Hip Hop reality show. It's aired in California and it is tentatively in talks to be aired on a major network.

Q:Ok Busy lady! Well I know you must go is there anything else you want to leave and say, are you going to be like Simon?

A: We are definitely not trying to be like Simon. But we are cutting those who can't handle the heat or the kitchen!

Q: Thank you

A: Blessings to you! Stay tuned to http://www.d-p-g-c.com to catch the episodes and chat with the contestants and judges! Thanks for having me

Robert C. Daniels has been in the record industry for 19 years. He recorded his first rap record at the age of 15 with a group named THOB-MOB.
After graduating from Edison High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1989, Dangerous Rob went to Langston University in Oklahoma. There he performed in talent shows and rap contests. In 1990 he put his educational goals aside and released his second record. Combined with Partners-N-Rhyme a local rap group, the record was distributed nationwide. It sold more than 10,000 copies of the single "Cold Chillin in the Middle". This popularity allowed him to perform with many big named artists.

In 1995 Dangerous Rob released Bakkk From the Middle which sold over 6,000 copies. "It's a T-Town thing" is a cut that best represents the positive direction that his 'middlism' style is taking him. 'Middleism' is a style that adds a lighter touch to gangsta rap yet still keeps the brutal honesty gangsta rap is famous for.

In 1999 Dangerous Rob released At Tha Bank which gained nationwide attention when Murder Dog Magazine rated it the 8th Best Independent Rap CD in the country.

In 2001, Dangerous Rob was nominated for a Spotnik award for best hip hop/rap artist. He would be nominated two more times in 2004 and 2005. The Spotnik Awards are presented to local musicians by the Tulsa World.

In 2003 D-Rob released "Grind Til-U-Shine". Reinforcing himself as the premier hip-hop artist in the midwest.

Now in 2005, Dangerous Rob fires both barrels as he releases his hottest CD yet, "Dangerous On Arrival" and "S.I.S.T.A." his greatest hits album.

Rob manages his own label F.R.E.E.D.A.M. Records and still produces different acts in the city of Tulsa.

Dangerous Rob has performed with: Club Nouveau, Melle Mel, LL Cool J, Doug E. Fresh, Ready for the World, Ice T, E.P.M.D., NWA, Dr. Dre, Too Short, Tone' Toni Tony, Flesh-n-Bone, and Chubb Rock

J- Tripz, born John Henry Hudson III in Wilmington Delaware, moved to San Jose California at the age of 9 months, and then to Freeport, in the Grand Bahamas. It was there that he was first introduced to Hip Hop music as a teen and started writing rhymes. “In the Bahamas I really got into Reggae and was schooled in island life by the old school Rastas”. These island influences would eventually surface in J.’s flow style, mic skills and musical tastes that are uniquely J.Tripz.
Back in the Bay Area, J. graduated from Leland High School in San Jose CA. Fresh out of High School, on the streets, and in the mix with the notorious San Jose street click, "The N.C.P.", J. decided to turn his energy to Hip Hop. As J puts it, “ We was wild, friends were dyin and getting locked up, shit was just crazy man. It was time to make a move and focus on my music.” Influenced by many artists of the 90’s like Aceyalone, Mikah 9 and the Freestyle Fellowship clan, Eazy-E, Snoop, DJ Quick, Busta Rhymes, and ODB, J Tripz rocked parties and clubs throughout Northern California and the Bay Area through much the mid 90’s.

As per the script, again J felt ready for a change of scenery, “I was done with the Bay for a minute. I had friends and family in Vegas and dug the nightlife. I needed to re group”. So with that, J. moved to Las Vegas and a brief hiatus from perusing Hip Hop as a career. After several years of “Vegas Life”, J relocated back to Southern California and hooked up with independent Hip Hop label Keep it Crackin Records.“ KIC gave me an opportunity to get on the mic and get some shit off my chest. It made me realize just how much I missed Hip Hop as an art form” In late 2003 J decided to venture out on his own. A chance meeting led to an introduction to independent L.A. producer Big Mike, and 3 Deep Records Hip Hop Artist Po’Baby.

While collaborating with Big Mike, and the 3 Deep Family, J. Tripz and this new team realized that they had magic in the studio and an intense creative connection that was undeniable. J appears as a Featured Side Artist on Po’Baby’s Solo Debut CD “Act Like You Know Me” released in 2004, and along with fellow rappers Doc Slim and J Luv, recorded and independently released the Bonafyde Heavyweights debut CD “Relentless” in the summer of 2004.

With his solo debut CD Chicken Wingz, Gritz & Spitz (Summer 2005), J-Tripz’s energetic and aggressive lyrical style bring you an amazing mixture of entertaining word play, and cultured content. Well traveled, (London, Paris, Amsterdam, Bahamas, Italy, and the US) and street savvy, J.Tripz voice is undeniable. His vision is as unique, as his mind is deep, and as his voice is loud. A big man with a big heart, and a laugh that’s intoxicating, J loves to get wild on the microphone and you never know what to expect. J-Ttripz is the epitome of humorous truth and hip-hop culture. With a laid back track and a wild flow, J is at his best with no strings attached, and zero censorship. Expect the unexpected. With so many targets and social subject matter, every verse is something new, and always entertaining.

Q: Where are you from, and how has West Coast Hip-Hop influenced you??

A  I'm from the BIG BAD South Side of San Jose...Home of the Sharks!!  West Coast Hip Hop didn't just influence me, I feel like I AM West Coast Hip Hop.  The first song I ever memorized was "Still Talkin' Shit" by Eazy E.  REAL THUGZ THROW DUBZ CUZZ!!

Q:  What would becoming a member of the DPGC mean to you and your career??

A: All of us are striving to get the opportunity to share our creativity with the world... To make today's dreams, tomorrow's reality.  Being a part of this team enhances my chances of realizing this goal."

Q: Who influenced you to pursue a career in the rap game??

A:  I would have to say my biggest influences to get SERIOUS about being an MC were Big Mike and Po' Baby.  When I met those cats, something just snapped in my head.  I knew I could make a career out of this music...and here I am.

Q:  You've obviously made your bones in this hip-hop game, what would you say has been your most significant accomplishment as an artist to date??

A I've had quite a few small victories over the road, but I'd have to say the highlight of my career so far has been the opportunity to record and market my first solo CD Chicken Wingz, Gritz, and Spitz, on 3 deep records, and touring with Ric-Hard for two months all over the Continental U.S. Using nothing but the money we made from CD sales.  We was straight out the trunk widdit...Even got to do a Show with Tech 9 in Lawrence, KS.

Q: Who are you bumpin' in the ride right now??

A:Honestly...Jamie Foxx....That new "Unpredictable" album is off the Chain.  But as far as rap goes...I'm bumpin Lil' Wayne,  2 N DA Chamber,  and ALWAYZ the soundtracks from both "Gang Related" and "Above The Rim".

Q: Describe your spit style.

A: VICIOUS...When I get the pen to movin', and the trees to blowin' I CANNOT BE STOPPED.  I CAN'T EVEN BE SEEN.  CHUUUUCH!!  TABERNACLE!!!

Q: What can we expect from you as the DPGC Idol contest moves forward??

A: Relentless Drive, and boundless creative energy.  I'm really excited to broaden my horizons both as an MC and entrepreneur.

BLAZE MONTANA  Q: Where are you from, and how has West Coast Hip-Hop influenced you??

A: I'm from Oakland, CA.  So I was raised on West Coast Music.  My main influences growing up was NWA, Dj Quick, E-40 and of Coures Pac.

Q: What would becoming a member of the DPGC mean to you and your career??

A: Man this would be a great honor, working with these Legends in the game, gives me a shot at being a major factor in this game.  I mean DPGC is real and has      stood the test of time without having to use gimmicks and shit.  I just wanna be with a label that's gonna allow me to say what's on my mind and let me be Brian Taylor.

Q: Who influenced you to pursue a career in the rap game??

A:Life has influenced me.  I'm a self motivator, I'm just tired of working 40+ hours a week and Side hustling taking penetentry chances and not really getting the things I really want outta life.  Plus I feel like I'm doing this fa my peeps, we all struggling and dieing out here, I don't want to loose no more Family and Friends to this violence on these streets, I wanna take em out the hood and show how to really live it up and how to hustle and get money the right way.

Q: You've obviously made your bones in this hip-hop game, what would you say has been your most significant accomplishment as an artist to date??

A:Making it to the Final 12 in this contest.  I heard it was something like 300 Artist that sent their stuff in and I made it to the Final 12 and this was a Nationwide thing so that's pretty big.

Q: Who are you bumpin' in the ride right now??

A:You mean besides myself?  lol.  DPGC of course, still bumping Pac and Jay Z, TI, that cat is hot and Young Jeezy.

Q: Describe your spit style.

A:Definantly West Coast with a Dash of Dirty South.  I'm really versatile man, I give u gangsta, club, contious and motivational songs.  I just let the beat move me to say whateva is on my mind.

Q: What can we expect from you as the DPGC Idol contest moves forward??

A:Dedication and consistancy.  I'm in it for the long run.  This is my shot and my time to be heard!
