No one
Only person I can think of is 50 Cent. He has a bunch of classic hit singles. Might have been a contender if Jay-Z hadn't been doing it for almost a decade before 50 started.

Yep.
Hes good for sure. But you must be judging singles based strictly off popularity, which I wouldnt do personally cause I could give two shits about what some 14 yr old or some club hoppin whore thinks is a hot song.
Again, good rapper though. Songs on your list (maybe bout half) are pretty good.
-
tell me wat rapper got a better top 5 singles than:
death of autotune
hard knock life
99 probz
big pimpin
nigga what nigga who
no body xcept maybe 2pac
-
n btw the best jigga songs arent even singles "bring it on" & "pre game"
-
99 problems gota be one of the all time greatest tracks in music
n dun forget dirt off your shoulders
nigga is dope
-
I'm not huge on jay, I'll buy his albums if their dope but I find him either underrated or overrated by my most people. He's not as bad as some people want to say and hes not the greatest ever bloke some want to push
But I went to a jay concert around bp3 and you can't deny the man, when he can play an hour an a half show of nothing but hit songs, you can't deny the mans gift for hot singles.
-
I would add "Can I get a ... " and " Empire state of mind" and leave Bonnie & Clyde and D.O.A off the list ... it's kind of crazy to see Jay never had a number 1 song until that joint with Alicia though
-
people trying to find reasons to like Jay-Z.. now you are going to say he's dope because of his singles? LMAO!! His singles are nearly all just R&B/Pop formats, he could never make a single like a "Stan", "Way I Am", "Cleaning Out My Closet" or like a "Hail Mary", "Dear Mama", "Changes", and he'll never come close to any of Snoop's bangers like "Gin and Juice", "Doggy Dogg World", or "Wit a Dre Day"
-
Almost all of those songs are horrible. He was just following trends at the time and you can tell by how outdated they sound even though it hasn't even been 10 years since some of them dropped.

Trying to find reasons to like an artist? Are you on something? If you like an artist, you like them. That's reason in itself. Jay was never a big favorite of mine back in the day but credit is given when it's due and the guy is a great artist. Saying he could never make these songs is missing the point. Pac could never make a single like "Stan". Snoop could never make a song like "Cleanin' Out My Closet". Eminem could never make "Dear Mama" or "Doggy Dogg World". Those songs are unique to the people who made them. Jay's music might not be the kind of shit you bump on the regular but that doesn't make him an inferior artist.

Jay Z do not have One single that flopped. dude deserves his props

probably ... but posters keep answering ... if we don't react to his 20 next nonsense comments , don't you think he will stop posting or at least write more credible things ... he's just looking for attention ... the best way to answer dumb comments is silence

hating on Jay-Z is a favourite pastime of this board, just ignore it...imo hes undoubtedly one of the greatest of all time, i dont care what anyone says

Jay-Z got tons of great singles. 99 Problems and Big Pimping being my favorites.
it's kind of crazy to see Jay never had a number 1 song until that joint with Alicia though
Shows Alicia's stature.

and to answer your question:
Will Smith, 2Pac, Snoop Dogg. These guys have more classics. There are probably more, but at the top of my head, that's who I can think of.
Classic to me is a recognizable sound of a song years from now, with a timeless quality. I don't thinhk a newer generation will hear of nigga what, and money, cash, hoes and realise what song it is

Just Cruisin' wasn't a classic single. It was an attempted follow-up to a major crossover hit that didn't go anywhere. I can remember the title but gun to my head, I couldn't tell you any of the lyrics or pick the beat off an instrumental collection and I own the soundtrack it was featured on. I'd say "Ring My Bell" and "Will2K" were hits in their time but don't have the longevity to qualify as classics.
-
How can you say Just Cruisin' isn't a classic? It's probably Will's best solo track..

what is a classic single though ? if we're talking about an objective classic, IMO we're talking about a song that left an imprint on the game, that most people could spit at least one lyric from, regardless of the intrinsic value of the song. if we base ourselves purely about musical quality, it's left to personal appreciation.
but Jay-Z has the most classic singles IMO. but people mentioned too much singles. I don't think Change the Game is a classic. it was massive when it came out but I don't think people still remember that song as a classic.
rappers who come close to Jay in terms of classic singles : Eminem, DMX, 50 Cent. 2pac does too, but many of his hits were posthumous.

read any Jay-Z thread in this forum, some people come with good thought out arguments why they dont like him, but others just jump on the bandwagon with hateful nonsense

That's kind of what I was thinking in terms of "classics". Anyone can argue over an artist's best solo tracks but I thought we were speaking on the undeniable classics.
