The DJ on my local hip hop radio station just came on and said that 50 has ordered Interscope to buy 300,000 copies of his "Curtis" album. Anyone else heard about this? I'm just taking it as a rumor right now, but couldn't believe it when dude on the radio reported it as "Breaking News" lol...

its mentioned in one of the other threads

LOL, who cares? i bet kanye is doin the same thing 8)

No one buys music anymore, all these numbers are just made up.

And one day later...
September 14, 2007. This morning, MediaTakeOut.com spoke with an Interscope executive who claims that sales of 50 Cent’s Curtis has increased substantially in the last 24 hours. According to the exec, who asked to remain anonymous, Curtis is quickly catching up to Kanye West’s Graduation - and it may surpass it!!
The insider told MediaTakeOut.com, “Graduation had an extremely good first day and has since fallen off. Curtis, on the other hand, keeps getting stronger … I know that Kanye’s camp is already celebrating a victory, but the battle’s not over yet.”
And there may be some truth to what he’s saying. An Amazon.com insider told MediaTakeOut.com that sales of 50 Cent’s album are “stronger than we expected earlier in the week.”

Nothing that Miss Jones posted so far in her blogs were true. Now, Im not saying Def Jam or Interscope aint buying records but do you seriously think an information like that would just simply leak by some "insider" ?
-
Both camps will buy loads of CDs. Its quite pathetic tbh. I know Def Jam used to put out faulty disks or something so when people took it back they would get another CD scanned.
-
i have yet to meet anyone that actually bought Jay z album and im pretty sure that Def jam bought a shit load for him.If Interscope does the same shit for 50 then you know that sells are falling fast in the rap industry.
-
thats like over 2 million dollars just to beat kanye

its great. a company spends a load of money producing and marketing an album then they spend their own money purchasing copies of the album just to feed the artists ego. shame buying your own products isn't a very good business model or everyone would be doing it all the time

I don't see how record labels buy a load of albums... do they go into the local Best Buy and say 'Hmmm, yes, I'd like 300,000 copies of Curtis please'?

Lmao wtf? Oviously not, there the 1's who make em, they just keep em, its there cost!!!

that shit is so pathetic, how about making good music that will sell itself. It's all about the first week numbers now, how about an album that stays in the top 20 for like 6 months? I'm slowly starting to hate what hip hop is coming too

Normally, no. But nothing in this case is normal. If I worked for Interscope and 50 was sayin fuck Jimmy Iovine and Interscope ain't doin there job, then yeah I would do whatever I had to to ruin him.

Nah...I actually see what he's saying, because they have to buy them officially in order for them to count as being soundscanned. They manufacture them...but just keeping them wouldn't do a single thing. They would only buy them on their own so that the numbers scan and it looks as if they sold more than they really did...and I've always been skeptical about that, because I don't see how they could get that many of them bought.

id listen to some new mop shit anytime, whitout that originality point, straight grimmey shit with primo beats

I was just screwing around... but now I'm genuinely intrigued, what do they do with the albums they keep? Are they all stockpiled in Jay-Z's garage? Or recycled and made into Beanie Sigel albums?
