Tha Dogg Pound’s Kurupt is working on his seventh solo LP, which also happens to be his first in seven years. Since dropping Streetlights in 2010, the former Death Row EVP has yet to release a studio album. That is about to change, however, as he and longtime collaborator Fredwreck (who produced much of Kurupt’s Tha Streetz Iz a Mutha in 1999 and follow-up Space Boogie: Smoke Odyssey in 2001) gear up to record their upcoming project, Scuba Dust. Fred’ revealed details about the album to HipHopDX yesterday.
“We want to call this Scuba Dust because we want to take you to underwater funk,” he explained. “The other record we did was Space Boogie, and we were in outer space with that one.”
Kurupt has created some of his biggest hits with the producer, including the uptempo funky banger “Who Ride Wit Us” (featuring Daz Dillinger) off his sophomore solo set, as well as Space Boogie’s title track. Although they’ve already recorded about 20 songs, stressing “quality over quantity,” the two hadn’t released a record together in over 15 years. That is until earlier this year when they gave DJ Pooh the song “Inferno” for his Grow House feature film soundtrack.
Originally intended for Kurupt’s upcoming LP, if the break-beat-driven “Inferno” is any indication of the album’s direction, Scuba Dust should take listeners on a seriously funky trip. “We’re going down under with this one!” said Wreck.

The idea of a Space Boogie rerelease with OG cover is exciting.

DID EQUINOX EVER DROP?

"Inferno" is fire. I hope this album really happens.
"The two hadn't released a record together in over 15 years". I guess they're not countin' songs from mixtapes.
DID EQUINOX EVER DROP?
No. There was a fanmade bootleg on the net though.

I got excited until the middle where hes talking about intelligent words and what the fuck is he saying after? I hope the tracks he puts in work cuz I think he lost his passion.
No hating. Hes a legend and if he pulls off a Streetz or Space type im good.
Oh boy like Roscoe says....

I'll be on the lookout for this. Hopefully Kurupt takes his time crafting a quality and concise album - 'quality over quantity' as Fredwreck says.

We've been waiting about 7 years for a new Kurupt solo joint.
