Big ups to DJ Drama. We just had the homie in NYC the last few days. Look for something major from Drama and not one, but two of your favorite New York City rhyme murderers.
Last week, one of the Big Apple's most legendary MCs, Rakim, performed a gaggle of material from his new LP, The Seventh Seal, as well as his classics. Backstage, Ra sat down and reflected on our upcoming Hottest MCs in the Game list. (The 2009 Hottest MCs in the Game list has been rescheduled for October — so you, the fans, can have a seat at the table! The readers' poll now closes September 21. Head here for more info and voting information.) Rakim was voted on our Greatest MCs of All-Time list a few years back, and when looking at who's hot right now, the first name he says is another G.O.A.T.: Jay-Z.
"You gotta give it up to Jay. He's holding New York right now," Rakim said. "You have brothers like Fabolous that's holding New York right now. Rap is spread out right now. It's like the NFL last year. A lot of the teams we thought was going to the Super Bowl last year didn't make it. You have young teams that people sleeping on in the playoffs. It's the same thing in rap. New brothers is sprouting out. It's crazy. From Drake to you name it. I'm a fan of hip-hop as well. I like everybody who keeps the game on their toes and keep it pushing."
Rakim said he's a huge fan of 50 Cent's song "OK, Alright," and he co-signed another New York thumper: Jadakiss.
"Jada, he's the definition of the streets," the legendary MC said. "Jada, Styles P, the LOX, period. You throw on one of their joints ... I'm in the whip, I try to keep my cool in the whip. I don't like bouncing around, getting my crazy on, but it's certain joints you gotta wild out. Roll the window down, blast the joints, let it be heard. That's one of them groups that bang it out."
-
Whether or not you agree with his taste in music, if everyone in rap was like Rakim instead of all the haters then the shit would be in a much better place.

Oh I know. I just get a feeling that people do not want Luna to speak his peace because he likes TI? As much music and interviews he does with other people, like his opinion would be biased about everything else.

no doubt, but on the contraray, if i was making an album & wanted a sick sixteen, i'd hit up Jada or Fab.
but i'll take the discography over a "feature rapper" anyday. 8)
Luna, don't you hate it when people call you out on people who aren't your favorite rapper? lol.
-
i would want a 16 from fab and jada over TI as well on a guest appearance but as u said, i rather have a better discography and there ain't no argument who has the better disco b/w those 3
lol makes them look dumb cuz i keep saying face is my favorite and the goat imo

He should mention Jay, Nas, and 50 for their commercial success and, more or less, repping the essence of New York commercial hip-hop. Jada and Fab's recent efforts have been shit. Additionally, while Fab is from New York he's always made southern-esque music. Matter of fact, Cam'Ron's named should've been dropped for Crime Pays; dope, underrated album - even if it is one of his weaker efforts.
Joell Ortiz, Styles P, Lloyd Banks also deserve to get their names dropped from his mouth.

Whether they should or not, that is his opinion on what he is feeling right now.

Hey, thanks for pointing out the obvious! Do you have anything else to contribute to this thread than revealing the obvious?

If we're talking quality of actual albums (which should be most important), Jada is behind T.I.

Same could be said for what you wrote!

Okay, now we're both participating in a stupid e-argument.
I'm proving my opinion by reflecting on what he said. You're providing your opinion on my comment by telling me it's his opinion. Duh! Either provide your own opinion on his comment, disagree with me, or don't post.

Ok I am going to give this a shot. ;)
Yeah you are right, he should have named alot more MCs like Nas and 50 for their music. Jada and Fab do they thing as well.
But for whatever reason Ra did not name them. Does not mean he forgot about them, he just did not name them. IMO I did not take offense as to who he mentioned.
-
haha, this is pathetic. I'm ashamed of myself. :(
I just want Rakim's music. I don't really care about his opinion. It's a little bit interesting to see his thoughts but it really doesn't phase me.

Jadakiss is cool, I don't know what the hype about Fab is though

jada and fab make terrible albums.and fab is wayyyyy overrated. His punchlines are corny,he shows no real depth, and his flow is monotone.
