Nice post... it's just hard to differentiate how big a role Mel played in some of those beats vs the role Dre played in those beats.

For me, when I think of Mel-Man these are the tracks that stand out.

1.  "Shittin On The World" this track is so mesmerizing that I once got smoked out and hypnotized myself to sleep with it on repeat and even after 100 listens on repeat it only got more infectious.  People still haven't caught up to how ill this joint was.  Ahead of its time.

2.  "Year 2,000" People forget that this was kind of like X's first solo single after it was announced Dre would executive produce his album.

3.  "Welcome to L.A." - This was on Xzibit's second album and it was the sign of things to come later for Xzibit, the sort of sound he would adopt for his Restless LP.

4.  "Role Model" -  This one could of been more Dre then Mel-Man, it's hard to say so that's why I put it at 4 underneath the other 3

5. “Get Your Walk On” - A West Coast anthem, would rank higher but I took it as more of a Battlecat track

I listened to quite a few of his productions this afternoon and can definitely say his production style is for sure guitar centric, during the 98-02 era this worked great with dre drums and dre's sound around this time

Yep, he did “Eve of Destruction” which is a solid track.  Not his best work though.

Hell yeah !!!  I’m addin that to my list !!!  Can’t believe I forgot that one that joint did well and the album went platinum but that shit should of been an anthem in hiphop like could have done even bigger numbers.  My white suburban friends who were rock fans were even into that song.

I just usually thought of it as a Battlecat track cause it sounds more like Battlecat then Mel Man but you are right Mel is also there on the production credits

Bilal - Sally (co-produced with dr. dre)
Snoop Dogg - Dogg Named Snoop

Bilal's album dropped during that post "2001" era when I believe Dre was taking a lot of his leftover beats from the album and seeing if they could get used by other artists.  He even said this once in an interview something like "they will get used eventually" (leftovers used on other artists albums).

Like the Dre beats that ended up on Restless were probably all 2001 leftovers.

It was during this era that I was buying every album Dre did a song on, even Eve I bought her album just because Dre produced a couple joints on there.

I bought Bilal's album even though I'm not an R&B fan and I still bump it to this day it is one of my all time favorite R&B albums after KC&JoJo and Jodeci stuff then Bilal's debut is up there.  Dre even appeared in the video and on that "Fast Lane" joint with Jadakiss that was fire.  That track alone was worth getting the album.  Then Mel-Man production on "Sally" was top notch.  Other great tracks on the album

"Soul Sista"
"For You"
"Reminisce" with Mos Def

I know Fred did the remix, but Battlecat said he worked on the original version too.
