In my honest opinion, dude is alright for an MC but his singing is wack as fuck. He sounds like what I would imagine a frog would sound like singing. Some people think he's the best thing since sliced bread, but I think the only reason people are really feeling him is because he's getting co-signed by Wayne, who's arguably the hottest mainstream rapper right now and on top of that, he's getting monstrous beats from people like Boi-da-1, DJ Khalil, etc. Plus, he's getting crazy coverage and features because Young Money are really pushing him. So, are you guys really feeling him? What are everyone's thoughts on him?

I see both sides of it. I see why ppl don't like him but sometimes when I listen, I see why ppl make such a big deal. Some of his rhymes and patterns are out of this world, his punchlines can be insane at times. And as you said ppl do enjoy his singing (it's good enough) and it really gives him a double edged sword (rapping and singing) that we don't see that often anymore.
Either way, I'm supporting when the album comes out 'cause he reps the hometown hard 8) It's good to see someone from here making it so big.

Drake is like 50 back in 02/03. Definitely no super incredible lyrical mc but knows how to make hits and most importantly a good songwriter; subject matter, staying on topic, chorus, picking the proper production... And just like people were talking about 50 and how everybody else "kills the beat better" than him, there's a huge difference between writing a song and freestyling.
And his singing just brings another dimension to the table, before that he was just another new rapper, singing made him stood out and a more complete artist.

its entirely subjective and entirely non-political. there are other factors why i don't like drake at all but that's the main one. i aint saying drake killed hip-hop or nothing, each to their own. he probably is a solid songwriter for valid reasons from a lot of people's perspectives...

@Matty; I get you. In contrast, I'm also not saying that he is some sort of hip hop savior or anything like some people claim he is. I can't predict the future but I view him as a 50 Cent type artist with a 5 or so big, successful years but not enough talent and variety to have a long career. Wayne on the other hand, might become a long lasting artist.

He's alright.The Fear was pretty good but I find him boring tbh especially content wise. His singing is crap but he usually chooses cool beats. I've already gotten a bit bored of Its Over (seems to have little replay value) but I hope his album is a bit more interesting that that EP he put out.

Successful was dope, Over is good, Forever.
Some his lines are are odd "know i balled, chemo", "swimmin in the money come and find me, nemo" that particular one is fun. Like Meho said, he ain't no God like some make it seem but he's good enough where the success he's seeing doesn't bother me in the slightest. It's not like he's Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka, Soulja Boy, Roscoe Dash, etc. - nothing he is doing makes hip hop "look bad" so more power to him.

Lil' Wayne = biggest name in mainstream rap; Drake = basic copy of Lil' Wayne lyrically, metaphorically, punchline-wise, voice (slight difference though *while rapping*).
the only major difference is that Drake can sing; but Wayne co-signs him still and that's why he is where he is.
Wayne could of came out quick & said, "fuck that nigga, he just jacked my entire style" & he wouldn't get the Wayne fanboy support & he would be truly hated on.
anyway, like i said, he's hit or miss, for me; we'll just have to see what his album brings; but with that being said, i don't see the reason for all the hype for this album after hearing the first two songs. :-X

what can i say? i had an impulsed opinion about him after his first mixtape, i got caught up in the buzz; he dropped a few solid verses, some solid tracks, i was convinced at first.
but if you want to talk "clown", you're not far off if opinions aren't allowed to change in your little fantasy world.
go scoop up comments throughout the world on peoples opinion about 50 Cent before & right after Get Rich or Die Tryin' & then see what the same people said about him after Curtis lol.
i'll say it for the third time now, so listen closely, Drake is hit or miss; he was "hit" right away at the start, but has progressively started to miss more & more & then you hear Wayne & Drake together on songs & you can barely tell which one is rapping (a joke, before your stanhood takes over & spazzes out) & what he had working for him has died as of late; but it's not like i've sworn off listening to him.
like i said ALSO eariler, i will be listening to his album & i'm going to go into it objectively, but as of now, hearing these two songs off of it, my expectations have gone down considerably.

I don't see how you can hate on Successful. That's easily one of his top tracks. Drakes voice isn't worst than say Eminem when he came into the game so it's not that bad to me. Hell, em's voice was more annoying than Drakes when he hit the scene. He sounds better than Gucci & Yayo.
I don't see him as a Lil Wayne clone. Drake stays on topic where as Wayne kind of goes off, stringing punchlines together. Wayne is more eccentric where as Drake is chilled. Do you see Drake claiming blood, rapping about guns, or talking about aliens? No, he raps about women, personal relationships, money, and his personal self. Call it emo, gay, or whatever immature word but he's no lil wayne clone. His flow might be influenced but that's different then saying he's a clone.

I like Drake since he's probably the only Young Money rapper who isn't claiming to be a blood, plus he's got a few songs I've enjoyed.
Though he's practically unknown where I live, everyone's focusing on Gucci Mane and Black Eyed Peas :P. Only way I found him was because of his joint with Nipsey Hussle and when Young Money announced a collaboration album (only kept the Tyga tracks though).
I'd suggest his music for clubs but not for when I'd want something with deep meaning.

I think Wayne just has that affect on all of his artists because he's the person they look up to. If you listen to young money they all have that style now, emphasizing the punchlines like how Wayne does. Niki Minaj does it, gudda gudda does it, short dawg etc. It's just a young money trait.

Yes. Lol. Also, no rapper has done a legit freestyle since the early 90's. It just don't work that way. The last one I can recall doing a legit one is The Game.

I actually like Drake better than Wayne. But I wonder if he really did blow up on his own or if it was just a publicity stunt and he was signed to young money the whole time? If he really was unsigned I don't see why Wayne would invest so much into an artist that didn't want to sign to his label at the time, it doesn't seem like a smart business move.

A freestyle isnt something off the top of the dome necessarily, its just lyrics free of form (ie. not a song or a "track" or a fully formed entity). I'd say 50% of freestyles are written and there's nothing wrong with that.
It only becomes stupid if someone is passing it off as if they HAVE made it up on the spot.

No its not one or the other. Read the description of a freestyle. It can be either, the phrase just applies to freeform lyricism, whether written or not.
