So i picked up my copy earlier today and just gave it a good bump cranked full blast through my beats by dre.
I gotta say, its pretty fucking dope and its certainly pretty fucking funky!
Quite enjoyed it.
I guess my only complaint is that it is an E.P as opposed to an L.P.
The closest thing that Snoop has done to a gangsta/g-funk album in some time.
If he could do a whole album like this with more rapping than singing with some kokane, lil half dead, Soopafly and the like i would be very happy.
Nate dogg would've been great on this too.
I will most likely give it another listen tonight and i will most def play it at my BBQ tomorrow.
Who bought this?
I dont buy E.p's that often but this gives me hope for the next Snoop L.P.
-
i like EPs, exactly like Snoop said in some latest interview that you won't find no filler on a 30 min record, and it makes you want more

1st cool Snoop cd in a decade?!
-
The EP is tight, been bumpin it on and off since Tuesday. I don't think I've enjoyed a Snoop cd this much since Tha Last Meal, a full lenth LP entirely produced by Dam-Funk would be dope! The only thing I'd like to see if they ever did an LP would be to have other funk-type singers on there like Kokane (Koke can spit too) and Latoya Williams, it would be a good idea to throw some real singers into the mix; Snoop singing on the EP worked since it's short but I think it would be hard to listen to a full album with him doing the singing. Some features that could sound good over some funky Dam production could be DJ Quik (maybe doing some talkbox too), Suga Free, E-40. It would be cool if a full album happened, who knows if it will though. But what they did with EP was great, especially for Snoop, I already knew Dam-Funk would do his thang but wasn't too sure about Snoopy (he'd been letting me down with his last several albums), but Snoop came through on this one. The Kurupt & Dogg Pound features were coo, although for an EP I don't think it was totally necessary but still coo.
-
Yeah i would'nt want a whole album with too much Snoop singin. I agree about Kokane and Dj quik and latoyia had crossed my mind also, same with warren-g.
Iam looking forward to putting it on later but iam sure it will be considered too soft from some of my mates lol.
-
one of my favorite albums of the year, well probably the best of the year IMO. Snoop and Dam really hooked up something nice. Im surprised its not getting more love on this site.
-
Yeah iam surprised also. The album has a good feel and vibe that goes all the way through. No down south or songs that dont fit in. I guess another example of how an E.P can be good, in that regard.
-
1st cool Snoop cd in a decade?!
the one with wiz was dope imo
-
1st cool Snoop cd in a decade?!
R&G and TBCT were both dope too
-
Got the EP yesterday and really, really like it after a couple of listens. "Do My Thang" is my jam, that one's awesome. Don't like the Kurupt feature on "Ride" at all, he's all over the place with his flow and didn't catch the beat at all. Daz did good on "Systamatic" and Kurupt was much better than on "Ride". I don't think Daz and Kurupt really added something to the EP. I think I would enjoy the EP some more without the DP features, but it's still good. I like Daz and Kurupt as rappers, but I looked forward to a Dam-Funk & Snoop project and now they put the DP on 25 % of the EP (that's what having 8 tracks does to people, still complaining). ;D
Overall a great project and it leaves me looking forward to something more. Really hope they will do another project in the future.
There is an exclusive track on the iTunes version named "High Wit Me", which is like a Snoop (the rapper) solo track. I also saw that StonesThrow will release a limited vinyl release with instrumental to all tracks and another exclusive track named "Wingz" next year. I'm sure that's the track they've played on one of the feature clips, that one sounded dope. Hopefully some day we will have a rip of those instrumentals and that track. That's it for now, I'm going to bump "Do My Thang" now... 8)
-
its a good EP , like mentioned above, Dogg Pound dont really fit on there...
-
Are they selling this in stores or just online? At Target or Best Buy?
-
I imported my copy from a small little cd store, i doubt the big stores here would have it?
I played the album at mt BBQ last night. I dont think it was overly noticed though, everyone drinking and talking plus very short album, but there were some heads noddin.
"do my thang" seemed to be a well received track. Plus the beat on "faden away"
I put the video for "hit tha pavement" on later. Seemed peopel more just laughed at Snoops hair more than anything though lol.
It was too soft for some of my more "underground" hip hop head mates, even though this is pretty underground.
Hey at least everyone didnt say it was wack as fuck or average like most people did when i put on Eminems new album.
-
I bought it at my local store monday and its dope.
btw, can someone hook me up with the ITunes bonus "Wingz" please
-
Got my copy from iTunes. "Do My Thang" and "Hit Da Pavement" are great. "Let It Go' is also very good. And like some others said, Kurupt didnt fit well on "Ride". That beat was way too smooth for Kurupt to get on there and spit all that nonsense.
-
The whole EP is dope to me! Sounds the best in the car rather than headphones/computer/phone. Dogg POund fit on there, Systamatic is a good one. Better a DP feature than Miley Cyrus and others that were on that SNoop Lion CD.
-
ordered the cd. 8)
-
Are they selling this in stores or just online? At Target or Best Buy?
I'm not sure if Best Buy or Target have it, I got my copy from a local record store, Zia Records (they're smalled but a lot better). When I got it, it also came with a free cassette single, Hit Da Pavement and Hit Da Pavement Instrumental on Side A with Faden Away and Faden Away Instrumental on Side B. I thought that was old school and cool as shit for it to come with that!
-
wow thats pretty tripped out.

ha ha i must've been drunk both times that i listened to the album because i dont even remember this track. is it different from the album version?
SUPER LOW BUDGET video. Would be a good song to have a cone and a beer to.
-
this doesnt even get a full page?
it must not be that good then??
i know the beats will be nice, but whats the ratio of raps to singing
-

it must not be that good then??
you cant say it like that
-
I guess there were alot of other threads leading up to the release, including the one where the album was up for stream.
After a couple of listens i think the rap to singing ratio would be about 60-40. Dont remember that well though.

That's the Itunes bonus track--it's called High Wit' Me on Itunes but it's the same song.

Let It Go, 1Question and Do My Thang are on repeat!

Thanks alot playboy. Merry Christmas.
-
listened to this quite a bit, i think 1-3 and 'Do My Thang' are the best grooves. shame it starts with 'Niggaz Hit D Pavement' as that's one the stronger cuts, sets a tone in quality that's seldom matched.
-
funkin with this

snoop shoulda done this kinda album wit battlecat.

snoop shoulda done this kinda album wit battlecat.
yeah i'd love to hear that, nothin against Dam Funk, but cat would make that EP an instant classic

real talk ! this joint wit dam funk just sounds watered down and generic.
-
fuc yall listenin to?
If that's the case since we're all fantasizing let's say Part 2 should be all Dam-Funk, Dr. Dre, Bootsy Collins, Prince, and George Clinton. And we can throw in some Keys by Phonk Beta, BattleCat, and Focus too
-
that shit is weak ! snoop has had better funk tracks on his albums than that 7 days shit anybody sayin' anything different is a lie.
-
so is the song wingz any good has anyone heard it?
edit: doesn't matter i heard the song. too bad its better than some of the other songs on the EP.
-
that shit is weak ! snoop has had better funk tracks on his albums than that 7 days shit anybody sayin' anything different is a lie.
You smokin crac
-
i havent heard the whole thing yet, but from what i hear, album has a nice concept with some strong production....it's just that snoop should be straight rappin and leave the singin to cats like kokane, bootsy, george if he wants that soulful feel up in it. this shits barely being promoted at all, tho.

nah. Snoop did his thing on here. He missed a couple notes on here but whatever, fuck it.
http://www.youtube.com/v/rAmS7B0_tDI
this is my favorite song on tha album (so far). I've been drinkin' like shit to this song and have had it on repeat for a couple hours and I love it!
get outta that whole Death Row closet and bask in Snoop DOGG. it's actually pretty good becuz 5 outta 9 aint bad.
don't get caught up in tha hype
-
thats the go right there...but he's rappin the entire track, outside of the chorus....i'm talkin more about tracks like the lead single, where he was singin most of it.
-
Nik u too grown to be talkin about rappin'. Music is music holmes
-

You smokin crac
first, you gotta understand that I'm from the home of the p funk. secondly, before any of them west coast niggas was doin' it epmd did it and did it well. the shit sounds promising but them beats is lackin' somethin' anybody wit good ears can hear that.
-
well your good ears must be damaged. Becuz what exactly did u expect? Kinda sounds like u nit-pickin
-
Nik u too grown to be talkin about rappin'. Music is music holmes
snoops better at rappin than he is at singin, do u not agree?
-
his singin' wasn't bad is what i'm sayin. i didn't even notice it, nor was i thinkin about it. I was paying attention to the songs more than the craft itself
-
well your good ears must be damaged. Becuz what exactly did u expect? Kinda sounds like u nit-pickin
let's not go there you think a nigga like daylyt has talent and paul walker is a hit...so who's ears are damaged ? I expected a project wit production that sounds finished and executed properly and there is nothin' to nit pick about the shit is average. http://youtu.be/WjlNZQe6U-A 8)

he's actually dope at both he just need direction ala dr. dre.

i dont think it's horrible, but i gotta give it a good listen...all im sayin is, i can all but guarantee you that if u replace snoop's singin parts wit kokane, the project would be twice as nice
-
fuck Kokane.... kokane aint nothin but a George Clinton copycat #nodisrespect
-
fuck Kokane.... kokane aint nothin but a George Clinton copycat #nodisrespect
shots fired !
-
fuck Kokane.... kokane aint nothin but a George Clinton copycat #nodisrespect
kokane's dope...george clinton spawn or not, he better at singin funk than snoop, hands down.
-
^^^ depends
Opinions are opinions but I'd rather have George Clinton on the track than Kokane......
Snoop's singin' (if u wanna call it that) actually wasn't that bad. i don't even see how u could focus on that of all things

i agree about george
like i said, though, i didnt even hear the entire album yet...but some1 said it was 60/40 rappin to singin. if snoop is singin about as much as he's rapping, then i'd say thats too much. 80-20 would be much more efficient, ideally 90-10 (like the track you posted)...and if he wanted singin throughout the album, bring in a seasoned vet who can hit notes. but i'm goin out on a limb here, cuz i aint even peeped it yet. i'm sure it still bangs, either way.

fuck Kokane.... (...) #nodisrespect
thats interesting ;p
i dont feel Snoop singin either - hes a dope rapper, and he should stick to that, I understand that hes deep in music, so he tries new things, like beat-makin or singin, but hes too average at it..
in once sentence: you dont wanna see kobe bryant playin football (its still sport, but its not his sport, you get it)

Kokane has always been overrated. yall know damn well he aint no George Clinton or Bootsy Collins so stop fakin tha funk. I always felt like he was just a replacement for tha absence of George Clinton on the albums - and his career period

still a better funk singer than snoop, and u kno that
-
Snoop said 7 Days of Funk was gonna be more of an old school funk/R&B type album, it was not supposed to be a straight up rap album and that's why Snoop sings a lot more. If you listen to what Dam-Funk has done in the past you'll notice that it's smoother, more laid back funk, it's more on the R&B side than on the rap side of things and that's why Snoop went with him. Battlecat has a more aggressive, westcoast gangsta rap style to his beats (which I love so don't get me wrong when I say that), having Battlecat produce the whole EP wouldn't have been too much different than what Snoop's already done in the past with Cat. And for me personally, I prefer when Battlecat comes with them more hard, aggressive funk beats like Dollaz, Drank and Dank or Still More Bounce; when he goes for a softer, more mellow sound, I usually don't feel it as much (usually). I already knew what Dam-Funk had done before and I knew what Snoo was trying to do on this EP so I wasn't surprised at all, I got what I expected and for that it's dope. But yeah, I'm all for a Battlecat produced album where Snoop just raps, but then we're talking about a different type of album altogether.
And Kokane is tight, both at singing and rapping. Hey, if a grip of artist have rocked the talkbox before and after Roger Troutman passed away and if Snoop can get away with doing his fake, swap meet-ass Bootsy Collins impersonation, then why can't Koke do his thing?
-
Kokane has always been overrated. yall know damn well he aint no George Clinton or Bootsy Collins so stop fakin tha funk. I always felt like he was just a replacement for tha absence of George Clinton on the albums - and his career period
overrated?! where?
Well, The Chronic sampled sampled shit lot of George Clinton and whole P-funk and i actually have never seen nobody complainin about it.
Kokane on the other side didnt copy nothin but a bit of George Clinton's style, and by that i mean that he sings with similar voice - but most of his vocals were original. Now - is that just one case? Or is that a case of more than 50% of industry that got heavily influenced by older cats?
I myself actually never though of Kokane as a George Clinton imitator untill i read it somewhere on this forum, but i still dont blame him no way - got lot of respect for Kokane for droppin hot vocals that i havent heard anywhere else.
-
So I can't keep it real becuz Koke strolls thru tha forum from time 2 time?

I never dissed Kokane, I just told it how it iz! Stop being so emotional.
And foreal tho, stop joking... Gucci>>>Kokane - most people would agree with that just off the strength of his adlibs alone
I had more of a problem with Snoop Dogg than Kokane himself. Snoop actually had the nerve to get a George Clinton replica and place him all over his music than actually get George Clinton himself. That was my beef.

agreed with radiotube on kokane. should have never ventured impersonating george clinton and should have sticked to rapping. the only time i liked him as a singer was on hennesey n buddah and friends (from duces n trays), and hard timin on the other hand dude can definitely rap

i never looked at him as a real george clinton rip off, he definetly got his strong p-funk/gc-influence and maybe took it a little to far from time to time, but he always had something original...
all of his vocals on tha last meal are crazy and dope...most of his work on dogghouse was dope...
his solo-stuff is very polarizing i think

We're going to end up debating Opinion
but I will say that his whole persona since "Tha Last Meal" era was George Clinton. And for that I could never care about the guy.
I always felt that Snoop should've gotten Loud instead of Stress.
Don't get me wrong, there's moments where Koke blended well with tha tracks (some). But if I had to chose between having Kokane do tha hook or Somebody Else, I'm going to keep it real like anybody would and wouldn't do it.
Replacing George Clinton with Kokane staggered his music at the time. It's one thing to get your own Bass Player (Bootsy Collins act-alike, without the vocal impersonations) but it's another to get "your own" George Clinton.
People clearly know where I'm at with Snoop. Not just then but now too. "7 Days Of Funk" is phenomenal for the most part, he should've just went that route instead when it came to tha instro'z and tha funk. becuz Kokane just wasn't where it at

Eveything you said is bias bull crap. I don't see Kokane as a George Clinton rip off . No he did not replace Georg Clinton at all . George Clinton is very busy man . No It did not stagger his music at all hater. You not keeping anything real . you are full shit & have terrible ignorant taste . Anybody who likes the trash called Gucci man has no room to talk. Kokane is dope as fuck ..
Kokane is always where it is at .

you're hilarious lol :D i love you

he fits on some songs but i fucking hate his yodling.
what the hell is he trying to do but sound like george clinton ? thatīs his thing. and heīs ruined many songs with that shit.
clinton is at least original and a great producer , kokane chose to emulate his weakest skill, singing , lol.

for example , i canīt stand him on above the lawīs g in me . usually any george clintonish hook he does.
iīve gotten used to snoopīs hennessy n buddah now but i hated the kokane parts before. matter of taste, i know.

Dam Funk and Snoop should definitely drop another project, great chemistry.
When Snoop wants he still is a beast, undeniably one of the best of the west.

Dam Funk and Snoop should definitely drop another project, great chemistry.
When Snoop wants he still is a beast, undeniably one of the best of the west.
yup....this is way better than the pharrell project

Right, but that pharrell joint aint good either.

it was alright, had some nice jams on there

I thought Bush was a funky ass album "Awake" is dope shit... A couple of jams reached too far like the one with Gwen Stefani and but tracks like "the city" and "peaches" showed if he flowed over the album a bit more it would have been a slightly more focused project
That appealed a bit more to the masses... It was a true throwback to the music that influenced him and what he listens to if you listen to snoop's "Cadillac Music" you would hear why this album makes sense of who he is now... Or he can be like Jay-Z and rap about a bunch of shit he doesn't do any more or how much he has compared to you because he is so rich and his wife and daughter are better than you and yours...
