Title: Does the US have an image problem?
Post by: Don Seer on July 30, 2002, 07:02:11 AM
don't think i'm hating guys... we've hit this a few times.

Quote
The US is suffering from a serious image problem, according to a new report by an influential New York-based policy group.
The report by the Council on Foreign Relations says the US Government is in need of an urgent public relations overhaul to improve its image in the international community.

It says the Bush administration has significantly failed to capture the hearts and minds of non-Americans, blaming a dramatic decline in funding for government departments dedicated to promoting US policy and values overseas.

Snubbing Kyoto and the newly-established International Criminal Court did no favours for the Bush administration either, according to the report.

Two things made the US look really bad among others:

1) Fucking Kyoto - couldn't believe that shit

2) Guantanomo Bay - Scandalous - what is it now? 200 days?  No trial?  No lawyers?  Fuckin scandal

Plus you got a President who lost an election and still takes office.  If that shit happened in the third world they'd send the UN in.

Your ass didn't see the Daily Mirror front page yesterday?

200 days on from when they first started sending motherfuckers affiliated with the Taliban to the prison camp in Guantanomo Bay Cuba, they are still there, no trial, not lawyers no nothing just detained.  This shit is illegal in international law, you got Amnesty international running about on the US's back complaining, and there's 7 Brits in there and they're not getting fair treatment.  Meanwhile the American guy that got captured, Walker, because he's American he gets a fucking trial and an expensive lawyer while everyone else is getting treated like shit in Cuba.

yeah one day America will fall and it won't be on top anymore.  I don't think it will be in my life time.  But no country can stay on top forever.

Word.  I really miss Bill Clinton.  Atleast I could say Clinton was an intelligent man, George Bush is just a puppet, and he's killing America's internation image.... even though at home the beerguzzling, hard-hat wearing, right-wing republicans love the guy.

It's true and most of this shit has went down since Bush was in office. At least Clinton cared about what other countries cared about (or at least tryed to act like it). Bush just don't give a fuck.

Bush is an arrogant asshole that thinks he is almighty and powerful and has all the say so and thats makin the rest of the nation look bad.

Bush shouldn't even be in office, him and those fuckin Republicans in Florida stole the presidency from Gore, who would of continued in Clinton's direction.

I just hope by 2004, when the next elections are held and Bush is thrown out of office, that we can reverse the damage already done.

Let's be real, George Bush's term in office has been a complete disaster..... but go figure, his approval rating is 70%, wtf?

Cause Americans love to have a reason to demonstrate their patriotism.  At the moment the Republicans look like they're heading for a beating in the mid-term elections, but guess what???  Hey all Bush will have to do is start a war with Iraq and wahey!  THe citizens of America will get behind their country and not be 'anti - American' and vote against the current administration.

I don't believe his rating is that high. Lets not forget he has the backing of almost every major company and most rich people. It wouldn't surprise me if they alter poles to make him look better than he is.

who the hell they ask?

"guantanomo Bay"

funny (not haha) but we're pulling the same shit here.

we passed a law after sept 11th allowing non UK people to be held without trial. theres been a group of people held for a long ass time without trial.

half of me is against it.. i believe everyone deservers a fair trail.. but from the perspective of disuading terrorism it makes perfect sense.

the UK government lost a case today about this on human rights grounds. but they are appealing, so the people still remain locked up.

See, we're full of shit as well, but our High Court is trying to stop it while America is showing no similar signs

My guess is he wouldn't of.  I heard something about Bush walkin out of some UN concert a week or so before the attack.  I know the Al Queda already had men planning the attack, but I think at any time it could have been called off.

It's like someone said above, Bill Clinton atleast acted like he cared about posotive foriegn relations with the third world.

If Gore was in office, we'd be the United States of Ladmerica.

But bin Laden being in charge of the country couldn't be any worse than Bush being in charge of the country.

people are slowly realizing what a mistake it was votin him into white house (even tho he really didnt win).  remember when 9-11 happened his approval rating sky rocketted up 2 like 90%.  an b4 9-11 his approval rating was under 70% i think.
