Title: What the hell happened?
Post by: westkoastanostra on January 01, 2007, 02:01:44 PM
callme late or whatever...but yesterday i was listening to Outkast "ATLiens"....and realized how different hip hop was back then...cuz the beats on the album were simple...but actually some dudes were ahead of their time like dre, above the law.....but yet the outkast album didnt relyon that but relied on the lyrics and what outkast was saying...this reminded me of biggie's "ready to die"...which the album didnt relyon beats but JUST lyrics...and sometimes it reminds me of some albums today where u gotta have crazy ass beats beats to make an album good since most cats aint sayin nuthin or atleast nuthin new...sometimes i dont mind if the beats are simple as long as the rapper tears it up..u know?

I was thinking the same thing earlier when i was listening to some Dangerous Crew & Too Short.. the beats were funky but weren't overpowering and the main focus of the song.  All the older 90's rap seemed to be like this.

BTW that ATLiens album is a fucking classic IMO the sound on that album is amazing.

I completely disagree. Ready To Die and ATLiens producting is classic and will never be duplicated. They were written and produced in a time when hiphop wasn't over saturated with commercialism and bullshit. Yet they both broke out with mainstream appeal based on how musically perfect they were. It's something we rarely see or hear in hiphop anymore,

chill
