In your opinion who is the best(or the future) in the D ? my vote going to Guilty Simpson. Ode To The Ghetto is an authentic gritty yet balanced album. the production is top notch and the rhymes are sharp. he's the best emcee out of detroit since Eminem.
-
Royce is the best. Royce can be on shitty production and still make you want to hear what he has to say.
-
esham for making music (mid 90s)
eminem as an emcee/lyricist
proof (rip) close 2nd

Royce.
Em has been garbage for years. How can Em be the best emcee from the D when he's not even from the D? ::)

Guilty Simpson & Black Milk
Obie is also dope
-
Re-read my post.
-
I strongly suggest anybody into detroit hip hop to cop 'ode to the ghetto' it's a thorough album. probably the years most slept on albums.
-
Some of them are starting to really get their respect outside of Detroit. AllHipHop.com did a special piece on Detroit not too long ago. It slightly inspired my post. LMFAO.
-
Elzhi fersure. Euro Pass was off the hizzle!! Plus all his work on slum village, to the guest appearence he's done on other albums ( Little Brothers Minstrel Show to J dilla 's Welcome to Detroit)
Elzhi, Elzhi,Elzhi, Elzhi, Elzhi
Dude spits hot fiyaaa!
-
Obie is some honorable mention...god damn he's underrated. :-\

LOL, Em? Garbage??? ok, yes, he's put out some whack verses (ie; pistol poppin by Ca$his), but you honestly would sum up the last 2 or 3 years of his career as Garbage??? get the fuck outta here.....
Remember folks, the best is in the mind of the beholder......
and Guilty Simpson, all be it, a talented dude, has never really impressed me as much as Royce or Em.....
The best rapper in Detroit, is probably a 16 year old kid who hasn't even dropped an EP yet.....
but for the sake of arguement, I'd have to go with Eminem, then Royce....
No one else in Detroit, let alone much of anywhere else, has consistantly tested the boundaries of Word Play and lyricism, and though simplistic, Em's instrumentals always get you moving.....
