he also said the song isn't representative of the album, content or sound wise
-
Nice! Sounds like it is actually happening!! End of December, then mixed in January, so early next year. Hopefully he releases another single b4 the end of the year.
-
warm up or not - @ least we get SOMETHING after more than 10 years lol

Obviously a planned leak, the way he was talking at the radio station. Maybe not the final version but still.
Power 106’s Big Boy scored a rare interview with Dr. Dre, who has been holed up in the studio finishing his oft-delayed Detox. The elusive rapper-producer spoke about his new buzz single “Kush,” plans for Detox‘s release next year, and which rappers he’s listening to these days. Among the highlights…
On the status of Detox… “I see the finish line right now. I’m wrapping it up. I need about two or three more songs and hopefully I’ll start the mixing process at the end of next month. And from that point I’m about 30 days out.”
On why Detox took so long… “I felt like I was doing it more out of obligation as opposed to just really feeling it. As of last year, I’ve been really feeling where it’s going and I think I’m ready. Hopefully, I won’t disappoint.”
On “Kush,” the leaked single from Detox, featuring Snoop Dogg and Akon… “There was a version of it that leaked that I wasn’t really happy about, so we’re gonna go on and push it and put it out because everybody seems to like it. I just thought that the content of it, it’s about weed smoking, and I don’t want people to think that that’s what my album is about. This is actually the only song with that type of content in it. It’s not a representation of what the album is.”
On his plans for Detox… “We plan on doing maybe about six videos and we’ve been talking about touring. I’m not positive about that, but I definitely want to do it.”
On the state of hip-hop… “It’s aight. There are a lot of artists that I like, I love Wayne, I love Drake, I love the new artist J. Cole. There’s some new brothers coming out on my record, SLim the Mobster, he’s out of South Central. I think it could be better and hopefully I can do my part to assist in that.”

The Doc is back. Hip-hop’s legendary producer Dr. Dre is finally preparing to release his highly anticipated comeback album, Detox, and XXL got the chance to pick the rap icon’s brain for the December/January 2011 issue.
After over a decade the West Coast superproducer is finally preparing the first quarter 2011 release of the long-awaited Detox. In a candid interview with Editor-in-Chief Vanessa Satten, the master beatsmith said, “I’m really feeling it now. My energy has been back and forth with the record, tussling with doing it out of obligation, as opposed to doing it because I really feel it. My feelings about it have been going up and down. Now I’m in that place where I’m really feeling it, and it’s coming out right. It’s like, Yeah, I’m excited about it.”
Dre has been teasing fans with the disc’s release since first announcing Detox in April 2002 but, as he explains in the XXL cover story, it’s been Dre himself that has been the cause of the many years of delay. The beat maestro, who turned 45 this past February, says, “The only part that has been pushing me back is just the fact that I’m getting older, and certain things to talk about… But I can incorporate other artists, new artists with this record, to say some of the things I won’t say. It’s been a little tussle in that area also, just because of age and being able to identify with the younger audience.”
Staying motivated over the years has been a struggle for Dre, who told XXL that there were moments where he almost gave up on Detox. “I’ve been through that thing several times, where I’m like, ‘You know what? I quit. I’m not doing this. Everything is starting to sound the same.’”
In the story, Dr. Dre also reveals that Detox might be the last time fans will hear him rap. “I don’t ever see myself retiring totally from music, because I have a genuine love and passion for it,” he said. “But as far as me going into the mic booth, that shit is over. I’m always going to talent scout and try to find new artists to work with. But, yeah, that’s it. I don’t see myself doing it the way I’m doing it now. I’m in the studio at least five or six days a week for 16, 18 hours. I think I’m going to back off a little bit and spend some time with the family.”
With 27 years in the industry, Dre has experienced one of most successful runs in the game, but the mysterious legend is conflicted about his own legacy. “I have mixed emotions about it,” he said. “I think it’s incredible what I’ve done. A lot of sweat. But as an innovator, I look back and can’t help but go, Damn, there’s things I could’ve done better, you know?”

Dr. Dre & Kendrick Lamar would be dope!
-
Wow, I haven't bought that in years, I didn't know the magazine was still around.
-
Shit Detox and no Nate on it! Dre said he gonna see if he can do something but i don't see him using unreleased vocals. That's why he should have released Detox sooner, to have Nate on it. Akon is definitely the weak link on "Kush". Butch Cassidy would have fit much better.
-
He said he was 2 songs away from finishing the album, he also said that 2 years ago, I don't believe him.
-
Storch said "2 weeks from finishing " over 2 weeks ago. Now doc says a month or two .Gimme a break .DON'T GET YOUR HOPES UP .Still a ways off , guaranteed .
-
Dre is also working on Snoop's Doggumentary Music that's what he said
let's see if he gives Snoop some beats this time as opposed to just mixing a track

Mista Rosa I Totally Agree Wit You ;)
Butch Cassidy smoothest voice in tha game 8), i love Akon but Butch is better thats just my opinion about it...
-
saying this is just a song to build hype is really BAD news, (doesnt cofirm the release of detox) remember the jay z song.
since the songs good it wouldve been great to hear it was an official single, which means detox is coming out
even if the song was shit, we just need an official single to corfirm the release of detox
-
props.....
-
Yeah except before Dre wasn't doing the press thing after the last leaks. This is a finished track and the hype on the release has started for real. It's not silly to expect a first quarter release. It's not like they could just get a quicker release now anyway. January sounds good to me. :)
-
I say April at the latest
-
He says next month he finish the finale mastering so it's coming January - February

you can't say that for certain.
-
Rap is back
-
First the '08, '09 '10 Freshmen and now this, XXL is definatly my favorite hip hop magazine.
Hopefully Dre'll find himself in a corner where he'll have to release the album.
-
I'm glad that Dre's not too pissed that Kush leaked, cool that it will be on the album too, because it deserves to be on there. Great news that he's hitting up Snoop for more material too.
I don't wanna hear any more Detox material though, sort of don't wanna ruin the surprise when the album drops, but if shit leaks then it will be hard for me not to download it!
Seems that the wait is finally over soon. January/February can't come soon enough. 8)

wouldn't it be weird if he was pissed?
it may not be his decision to leak it, but i'm sure he knows who's done it.

I know... Dre himself doesn't know...
-
January/February he will be finished (as he says), but the album wont drop just when its done, it needs some promo, some wait, and maybe we can have it like before summer (may/june, maybe earleir?)
-

True dat.

I think that if Dre release the album tomorrow he can touch the million in the first week without any fucking promo.
-
And I think you're over estimating Dre's hold on today's record buyers... This isn't 2003, the biggest rap and r&b singlers aren't produced by Dre these days, and the hype is definately not the same after all this waiting, so he wouldn't do those numbers based on his name alone... But by the time Detox eventually gets released, I'm sure the Interscope-machine will have everyone and their momma talking about Dre (they've already started it with all the commercials and Dre-products), and I'm sure we'll see huge sales.

as weird as this may sound, i wouldn't want that to happen. if he's kinda forced into releasing it, then it's not gonna be exactly how he'd like it, i.e. it wont be as good as it can be
-

yeah, i dont doubt it, but some good promo is always welcome and always takes place, specially with Dre.. and come one 6 videos? some of em must be released before album, and that mean, that we will wait a little longer when they drop.. at least i think so.. after releasin video, you give people some time to bang it, and not trop an album, couse when you drop album, people will leave the video.. so i stay with the may

guy named Sly
-
Im pretty sure that they will do the same as they did with 2001 , they used Snoops Top Dogg album to present the new sound ; that was around may 1999 I think. and then Dr.Dres album came out in october/november
