I have the original release with the turkey on the cover. I always wondered why "Got It Locked and Pimp Hotline" wern't on it when I had heard them on the vinyl album singles that were released.

"OFFICIALLY LICENSED MASTERED VERSION "

I guarantee you Dr. Dre did not license this out to anyone, Dre doesn't do that shit (maybe King T did though I guess) and the "2022 remaster" is probably just some home made job from the Bootlegs.

There were two dif bootlegs of the album on cd and the "bonus" songs on this new release were just the songs from both bootlegs that weren't on the original tracklist that came from the 1998 cassette promo. Psychic Pimp Hotline came from DOC's album on CD and That's Drama was pressed to Vinyl so I imagine its just a cleaned up version of that.

I'd love to be proven wrong! But I wouldn't count on it...

I’ve always found that the version of Thy Kingdom Come that’s been around for years to download has been clean enough, save for a couple of tracks like ‘Step on By’ that I imagine aren’t available in good quality until now.

I made a fan version of the album and burnt it to CD a few years ago. I put the ‘Psychic Pimp Hotline’ skit I think before ‘Monay’ which works quite well (I don’t know if it’s the same as the one on this reissue?) and also put in a version of ‘That’s Drama’ which someone posted here with an extended intro.

I actually find it’s better to listen to than the ‘official’ version that I have (the version with the LA cityscape at night on the front cover) because on that version they lose a few seconds of the instrumentals at the end of some of the tracks which is jarring when you listen to it.

Anyway, I will look out for this reissue as it will be good to have a consistent, better quality version of the album with all the new tracks and skits properly sequenced, albeit on 2 discs instead of one.

Oh yeah, I still maintain that ‘It’s Ruff’ is a top 3 Battlecat beat of all time  8)

Don’t know if tracklist is originally sequenced. Was there some leaks of og advanced cd or cassete? This reissue has best quality of all releases for sure.

u mean "Psychic Pimp Hotline" that was released on "Deuce" in 2003 was previously released 5 years earlier on "Thy Kingdom Come Sampler"?

link : https://www.discogs.com/fr/master/189512-King-T-Thy-Kingdom-Come

Weird nobody mentioned that when "Deuce" got released.

They did everything for the album.  Filmed the first single, had it making rounds on BET.  Ads in the Source "in Stores Now".  He had a special on RapCity, where they had him and Dre at Dre's mansion out on the golf course.

Guess what they asked him?  How much do you think your album will sell?

His answer:). "I would just like to have a gold plaque.  Something to show my grandkids I did something in this rap game."

It was an episode with Big Lez (fine ass bitch)

it was never released .. they just sent ads to magazines for when it was to be released, but pulled it before it actually came out.. the ads still dropped because they were sent to publications months in advance

not a mistake, it woulda taken away from the energy eminem was buildin at the time

dre made the right choice, and that’s why he had that great aftermath run

from a hip-hop standpoint it’s an absolute classic .. but beyond that, dre needed a groundbreaking album after the aftermath comp “flop”

Exactly something went Terribly wrong at the last minute, one day the truth will come out. Maybe it had something to do with King-Tee's former label. Notice the name change from King-Tee to King-T as well.

Here in Toronto they promoted the fuck out of it 2 or 3 Vinyl singles, Cassette samplers and stickers all around the city. Got it locked was a terrible choice for a single. But IMO the album would have did well! We needed something west-coast at the time, it was getting stale.

I had the Vinly's and cassette sampler and was jonesing for it. Then a whole bunch of years later I saw an album with a pimped-out turkey on the cover at HMV. I picked it up to laugh at then I let out yeah motherfucker out load in the store. It was expensive as fuck because it had a "Australian Import" sticker on it. But worth evrery penny!

Agreed, this is a west coast hip hop classic, but wouldn’t have crossed over commercially.  There is no Still Dre or Next Episode big hitters that would've made the cross over for gangster rap.  I wonder if this is the feel Dre got with Hitman and Bishop Lamont.  Bishop Lamont - Grow Up played in Cali but didnt move the needles overall.

Word.. I loved that early Aftermath sound it’s sort of became an anomaly but I still listen to Aftermath Presents, Firm, Bullworth, Thy Kingdom Come >> more than I listen to SSLP, Dre2001 or MMLP.  It may just be because I played out those albums or maybe the early Aftermath shit was ahead of its time

That Zoom beat was used on so many snoop and Dre related cuts it was even on “Purple” for last meal advance….  And the o.g zoom of course had snoop on it.

But bottom line all this is just Dre’s style, at the end of the day he’s just trying to make banging tracks.  So he might do a joint like “Hey You” way back in 97’ he could’ve done that who knows, and he just keeps fucking wit the same joint changing out sounds and putting different rappers on it, tagging it for different projects, and then in the end it usually never comes out or it ends up as “X” to launch Xzibit Restless album.

So y’all wanna know what happened to King T that’s just Dre being Dre.  He was just making dope shit, changing this changing that… but the crazy thing about Thy Kingdom Come is how close it actually came to dropping.  I mean… it does seem like it was a full go and then last minute got stopped.

I don’t see how it would’ve affected Eminem at all.  That’s like saying the Firm album affected Eminem.  Nobody would’ve even known the difference.  They could have easily had King T drop summer of 98’ he would’ve gone 300,000 or gold to at least recoup on studio time, promo, or whatever they put into it and give the fans something to bump in 98’ other than Snoops Game trash album 💿.

Then most record buyers would’ve forgot about Thy Kingdom Come by February when Slim Shady LP dropped.

I just don’t really see how they couldn’t of just released Kingdom Come and then started with the Em promo, artist development, and run up to SSLP

I remember Julio g playing it and it plays with skits before track like Tha Chron had a skit before it, almost like ridin dirty, it plays out with a phone calls from prison.

He played two other songs as well, I had them on tape in Clean version obviously as it was on the radio.  I was super hyped for the album, I argued with Sam goody guys all summer I did buy Nate Doggs G-Funk Classics thanks to looking for this album.

I didn’t understand why I couldn’t find the album.  King T video played on BET and he was getting a strong push to radio and was in every magazine.

Weird he still hasn’t every really dropped a LP

When restless dropped X said he was doing another King T album and I was like fuck finally! But still nothing

that’s not how energy works

when u put energy in one thing it detracts from another

putting out an album takes A LOT of energy.. and once u put it out, that’s just the beginning

that’s why dre is dre.. he understands these things like no other

I'm not saying you're wrong because none of us know the answer. A totally fully finished album that was heavily promoted/marketed in North America alongside radio and video play, doesn't get dropped is super fishy. All it needed was pressing. I can't see how it would interfere with EMINEM's release in any way. Unless Dr. Dre was working at the pressing plant lol.

A similar situation was the Nate Dogg ~ G-Funk Classics Vo.1 was the exact same scenario, but it made the pressing and copies are out (I've got one) and that was stopped due to a cease and desist.

there’s a lot that goes into promo and marketting AFTER an album drops

actually, most of it comes after

definitely woulda taken away from Eminem

think if Phil Jackson had another team to coach in the day time while he was coaching the threepeat lakers..

the more u got your eyes on the prize, the stronger the results will be

Dr. Dre felt it needed a stronger lead single and King-T disagreed and wanted to stick to the august 28th release date and didn't want to push it back so DRE let him go with his masters.

not a mistake, it woulda taken away from the energy eminem was buildin at the time

dre made the right choice, and that’s why he had that great aftermath run

from a hip-hop standpoint it’s an absolute classic .. but beyond that, dre needed a groundbreaking album after the aftermath comp “flop”
nope it's still a mistake. Screw Eminem's energy and he would have been still all right. Most of the Slim Shady LP was done before he was ever on aftermath records.. they would have still had a great run with aftermath and would have been putting out a legend and Pioneer the West Coast king T... Dr Dre chose a new artist over one of his own brothers and he's in the wrong for that. You've always put your West Coast Brothers before any new artist including Eminem who's one of the most overrated today... from a hip-hop standpoint only matters because it's all about hip hop and the rest of the world doesn't matter because casuals and non hip hop heads don't matter

back to back commercial duds (aftermath presents and this) would have been very bad for Dre.

and you heard his lawyers say it themselves - dre was in a big hole when he bet on Eminem. he found the sound with storch and Mel man, and he found the sure shot artist. risk/reward

you say that king-t has master copies of those songs and gave them to a record lable to release it officially?

no it would have not been bad for Dre. Hip hop is not about being commercial and Hip Hop is supposed to be anti-commercial. Hip hop is being underground and Street. Nope Dr Dre betrayed one of his own on the west coast for some new school cat and that shows that Dr Dre's not loyal to his friends. I don't care what lawyers say they're all liars

I think the one with the turkey cover was the first official release under Koch records, this is an official re-release by king T.
Definitely do not a Bootleg, silver disc, a real booklet with credits and pictures of king t + on the back there’s a likwit records logo.
King t got the masters from Dre so he can release it on 1000 labels if he want.
It’s a shame that Xzibit, tha liks & Defari are not on these album.

It's not master quality. I grabbed the files from Tidal and only the intro was lossless. Even "Got It Locked," which had an official single release, wasn't in master quality  :grumpy:

yes.. i understand that tidal allows for khz beyond what other digital outlets and even CDs allow (44.1 khz)

but there’s a great debate on whether anything above 44.1 khz makes any audible difference

they say human ears can actually only detect up to 20 khz, so 44.1 technically should sound to us as good as 352 khz

that’s why i ask what he considers as “master quality” as there is a difference of opinion in that

Production on this is incredible.  An interesting mix of the last vestiges of original G-Funk and the nascent space funk that Dre was in the early stages of developing.  This album is a wonderful window into a brief moment in time.  It's true that it wouldn't have sold well if it had been released when intended back in the day, but man would have it gotten mad respect from the streets.

I have the original release with the turkey on the cover. I always wondered why "Got It Locked and Pimp Hotline" wern't on it when I had heard them on the vinyl album singles that were released.

Nah thats not the OG release. I have it and its a black cover. Most of these songs are on it except Got it Locked (idk why) and I dont think Pimp Hotline is on it but there's a different version of LL Cools J's 'Zoom'. 'Step on by' is also on there in CDQ.

Im not sure if its been discussed yet, but Psychic Pimp Hotline was on the cassingle release of Got It Locked in 1998, before it was on The D.O.C's album.

I really love this album. It's a classic to me. But let's face the fact that it was going to be another flop for Aftermath. King Tee was an old school hip hop figure and he wasn't the artist going to make aftermath blow up! the album was going to take place as an underrated west coast classic in history but also another flop and disapointment for Dre's come back.
