Damn! Fire and Brimstone is so fucking powerful :o Bumpin' this shit real loud, right now! ;D
-
why is the end almost 14 mins?? quiks groove is in it too?
ya i think like 9 minutes into it, it starts quik's groove 9.
my favorite track on here is "time stands still" with dwele. gives you that "one on 1" feel but instead of the talkbox, its dwele singing.
-
Shit, you muthafuckaz make it hard to wait till the album drops.
I'll wait till Tuesday. 8)

You have strong will. lol
-
DJ Quik, no you didn't. When I want to give up on hip hop because of the BS these days, artists like Quik, Dub-C, Mack 10, Cube, Eiht, etc. pull me back. Excellent job Quik, you are definitely a musician/genius.

I told myself I was going to do the same but I couldn't resist lol. I'm absolutely loving this album. I am a little biased because Quik is my favorite artist, however the quality of music here is undeniable. Tops Trauma in my book! My favorite beat off the album has to be right after the Garry Shider dedication on "The End". I heard a snippet on Quik's bodyguards' page but didn't hear it on the Amazon snippets. I was really disappointed until I heard it on the last track!!! ;D So much emotion in that track. Such a great album. Quik took it back to his roots, and it paid off immensely!
-
i will however refrain...BUT IF one of my homies has it i might listen to it ;D
one of my homies put in 3 preorders on amazon last week for us..
hoping to get it by next friday :-\
-
This album is just fuckin amazing. I noticed the heavy bass from the start. I need a pair of new ears after tonights listening session with my Beats headphones lol. And only 1 bad track! ''Babylon''...
''Poppin'' reminds me of ''9x's Outta 10'' from ''BlaQKout''. ''So Compton'' is my shit! And Quik/Suga Free back together is just magic
-
damn i knew this would come out today, hands down the best album of the year so far! his best since rhythmalism!!! def picking this up on tuesday!
-
Even with high expectation I knew this wouldn't be a let down. That's why I don't anticipate Detox at all, as I did for The Book Of David.
-
production is on point on this! dope album
-
Fukk, cant wait to get off work. Smoke a blunt then listen to this....fukk 7 more hours.

omggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg
Best track in YEARS
The beat is perfect
-
I been banging Poppin on repeat for the last hour :D
-
'hydromatic' - love the track, but the slightly sped up snippet sounded better. it sounds too slow now and the gift verse at the start is horrible, sounds so out of place. and what happened to other adlibs...
snippet version http://www.mediafire.com/?cut8y054092x723
much more lively!
edit: the tempo was completely changed. i'll be making a version at the original speed, with adlibs.

Yeah the original version is way better. More uptempo and the Gift intro is indeed a bit weird on the retail version
-
damn!!! all these comments wants me to d/l this album... but i'm gonna wait till tuesday.... i don't know... i've been so excited for this album since it was announced.... can't wait till tuesday.... gonna make my day!!!! thanks for the comments y'all..... ;D
-
Not a massive fan of Quik but I'm gonna give this a quick skim through. Not sure whether to take all your ratings seriously as this is a west coast forum at the end of the day.
EDIT: The opening track is great.

slowed down by 3%...and the 'pop that thang' over the hook was dope. i dunno what compelled quik to slow it down and put gift yelling at the start instead. i'll be bumping the non album version if i can't be fucked to do a proper edit.

He did the same thing with Come 2Nyte off Under Tha Influence. The retail version was slowed down too.

Quiks Groove :o :o :o :o :o
What a fantastic beat, no other producers could make a beat musically like that!

yeah, that beat was changed a lot more than this one. the faster version is fairly fast sounding, whereas this track just loses all its bounce slowed down. got the OG version in good quality?

Yes. But not on my laptop. I need to check for the UTI advance. I will PM you.
-
My conclusion is this is alot better than Trauma and overall it is a pretty good album. I just can't see myself listening to this alot as its just not my thing. Weakest track is Babylon. Just couldn't get into it at all. Time Stands Still is pretty weak too. Also why does Kurupt even bother anymore? He's an awful artist now, just hang up the mic.
-
deffo better than trauma.
-
Its an 80's record with a 2012 twist....yes I said 2012 ;)
Safe n Sound part 2!!!
Does have an 80's sound.
-
So this is the Order of Quik Albums IMO!!!
1)Quik is the Name
2)Rythamilism
3)Safe N Sound
4)Balance n Options
5)Book Of David
6)Way to Fonky
7)UTI
8)Truama
Just how I feel

all i gotta say is give Ghetto Rendezvous a few spins, the beat is straight nasty and damn quik really hates his sister :P
banging track! the basslines on this cd are off the chain :bandit:

The quality of his mixing shows on here too. The average vbr bit rate is about 240kbps which is extremely impressive. I wish Primo would follow suit.

its cause the rip is V0 quality and scene normally uses V2, so almost flawless cdq. but we shouldn't be talking about that :P
the actual cd will be more banging 8)
and i love primo, but quik's mixing >>>

So Compon is some throwback Quik...i wish D was on here....

This thread is comedy gold. These reactions are pretty embarrasing and a little sad. A lot of sig worthy material here.
As to the album itself, it's obviously trash. Just more of the same recycled beats and subject matter from Quik. 1997 called, it wants its music back.

There surely isn't alot of difference between 0 and 2 but when you see that Tha Blaqprint came in at an average of 139kbps at v2, you can see what I mean.

I'm not Quiks biggest fan but I can safely say that musically, this album is far from trash. Lyrically, it seems a bit average but you can't complain when he produces and writes the whole album himself. Have you even listened to it before coming to this conclusion?

im mad.
not at DJ Quik, but at u muddafuckas.
u guys have buzzed n hyped this album like the 2nd coming of antichrist - i was really, really lookin forward to this..
6 songs in so far, and.. i mean, wtf?
its average/listenable/lukewarm..
Quik-fans dont like this either, its obvious when they r talkin about bitrates/mixing instead of the music..
----
Matty, explain please.

for real? you don't like tracks like 'do today', 'ghetto rendezvous' or 'so compton'? shit is crazy if you ask me, but it was really only quik fans hyping it in the first place.
i guess there is a lack of conversation on the actual music, i'm sure peeps will drop some more detailed reviews in a bit.
i'd say its better than trauma, somewhere close to under tha influence, but not as good as B&O or Rhythamalism. one thing for sure is that it's great music, but if you're not feeling it then fair nuff.

'So Compton' is a standout near the end. On some rhythamalism shit.

I'm sorry but I gotta agree. Don't pull out the hate card it is what it is. I'm really really disappointed. Bumped it once in my ride, no tracklisting, and overall the album didn't have the X factor everyone is talking about.
Many of the songs sound the same or similar, and there was way too much Rhythmalism re-hash on there... NOt to mention the snares on there sounded like something you would hear from the early 1990s... I kept thinking about that. Bun B was sick though, I'll give him that. Also how the hell are you supposed to listen and enjoy the last track?! :o
Damn the first two minutes made me feel like throwing the cd out the window. It sucked that I had to listen to the dope track that came after it then wait another 3 mins for Quik's groove.
Got dam I'm so disappointed... very generic sounding. High expectations... decent album but nothing great. I think people calling Quik a "genius" on this one are high are stans. Definiitely can do a lot better. :boohoo:

he can do better, you aint hating. if you're not into the rhythamalism type of sound that much, there isn't a great chance you'll enjoy this. but i could listen to plenty of "Rhythmalism re-hashes" without getting bored, it's a timeless sound. if anyone who thinks that is a stan...then yeah.

Well the point of an artist keeping his fans and getting new ones is to evolve. If he's going back 15 years that's not for me. And actually Rhythmalism is my favourite or second favourite Quik album, I love it. I'm not calling you a Stan in particular I'm just saying if you think Quik is a "musical genius" based on this album and how he saved the west ... well... you know :-\
-
im mad.
not at DJ Quik, but at u muddafuckas.
u guys have buzzed n hyped this album like the 2nd coming of antichrist - i was really, really lookin forward to this..
6 songs in so far, and.. i mean, wtf?
its average/listenable/lukewarm..
Quik-fans dont like this either, its obvious when they r talkin about bitrates/mixing instead of the music..

Matty, explain please.

if you can do timeless sounds again and again, i'd say there's a fair argument for 'genius'. but it's all subjective. not thinking you're calling me a stan, just saying that having a sound that changes or doesn't change at any particular time is not a sign of quality. the coast factor doesn't even come into it, it's all about the style of music. you could say the better the quality, the more nuanced changes can be when listening to new music. but yeah, pretty damn big quik fan.
-
Quik is a musical genius, and this record is dope. Is it his best? No, but I'd put it pretty high up there. Definitely on par with UTI and MUCH better than Trauma. I'm not high or a stan for praising this album. If you don't like it, then fine, but I think that's a really fucked up thing to say. Most people here like it, some don't. I went through something similar with that Kanye West album "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy". Everyone was talking about how dope and different it was, but I thought and still think that it's nothing more than an average album. And this is coming from a big Kanye fan. Shit is just like that sometimes.

Yup I can see that. But I think if Dre did that ... if he did a Chronic sounding album from 92 he'd get roasted like a motherfucka! Actually I'm pretty sure some stans would pull out the sniper rifle and threaten to kill him and lynch Jimmy while their at it lmao :o
Back to Quik I'm gonna give it a second bump and I'm positive I'll like it more. It sounds like an album that will have to grow on you. First impression wasn't good but I had sky-high expectations after Trauma. Some stand-outs for sure and some generics.

Well I meant that if you think he is a genius based on this album then sorry but I would have to say that's a Stan comment because it isn't THAT good... but then again.. your right about subjective aspect. But most would probably agree I'd be stan (well I am) if I thought D.A.Z. was an ingenious and innovative album.

WEST!!!!!!!!!
-
1 Thing I Will ADMIT Tho, (& It's Not Easy For Me To Say This) ...............................QUIK NEEDS TO GET BACK TO HIS BETTER WAY OF RAPPIN' ON THESE INSTRUMENTALS, His Lyrics R Too PLAIN & When He Raps He Says Words So Separately & Clear Like He's Trying To Make Out What He's Saying Instead Of Letting It Ride Tha Track & Be Little More Fonky & Creative Like "Safe & Sound", "Rhythmalism" etc. Also He Makes His Voice A Little TOO LOUD Instead Of Mellowing It Oout A Lil So It Can Sound Smoov Yet Gangsta
I Miss His Distinct Rap Delivery On Tracks (For Example):
On Tracks Like......
"Put It On Me"
"Hand In Hand"
"So Many Ways"
"Focus"
"Trouble"
WHERE IT ALL JUST FITS & He Messed Around A Lil Better With His Words.
WEST !!!

Tuesday I'm buying this and Saigon's.

it really depends what type of stuff you're into. after that, it doesn't matter when or when it sounds like it was made. good music is timeless. everyone shoild be open to new sounds, but it has to be good.
-
@ Matty,
Quit Trying to defend quik to the end bro, it doesent look good on your part. No matter what you do, its not gonna change peoples mind on what they think about the album.
This album isn't for everyone. they can listen too gucci mane, lil wayne or whatever else they want but my point is, we all have our own standard of good music and it hits us different. just like different genres of music.
Voice your opinion about the album and move on. Fuck everybody else if they dont agree. It's an opinion!
My Opinion is quik is underrated, doesn't get the credit he deserves while Dr Dre is overrated, doesn't produce his own shit, doesn't write his own rhymes and gets ALL the credit for just adding his name to it. will people disagree and think he did everything? yes! but who cares.
support it if you like. if not download it ;D
-
Bottomline, Grown Folk Music.
8) this album.
-
im waitin til i get my cd to hear it
\
-
Love this album most of the tracks are good KK Kills So Compton love that track and as someone who grew up in the 80’s and 90’s I love the analogue sound of the album I have not brought a hard copy of a rap album in years as I no longer like new rap music but I will buy this,
-
Listen to "Poppin" with your Subwoofer... my God! It doesn't even have the Kicks but it destroy your walls.
-
Damn ya'll hyping this album like a mahfucka.
Not hating but is this album making any noise outside of this forum at all?
-
I don't think it will have any buzz, but who cares anymore.
Overall I still can't judge the album, "Killer Dope" is just my shit!!! "Babylon" is wack as fuck, it had to be replaced by "Fresher Than Me".
-

Daaaaamn, i dont even know what to say. Quik is the fuckin man!
-
this album compares with Blaqout production-wise to me...its a nice cd...but Luv Of My Life & Nobody had me hyped for vintage Quik...and he has evolved his production...differnet keys and snares...all in all tho i will buy it and bump it...
-
Yes!
So Compton is a Summer Breeze pt 2
Fire and Brimstone KNOCKS as expected.
This is an album for the fans. So as a fan, I'm pleased.
-
Album is nothing special by Quik standards .. I like Trauma more than this one ... I don't see any tracks on the same level as "Black Mercedes" , "Til Jesus comes" or that song with T.I
Some beats sound generic and lacks that usually Quik funk/good feeling vibe and musicality (except So Compton and Nobody)
-
I just give this record like 3/4 listens and overall so far i'm satisfied but it could have been better, music wise it's great and when it's not it's experimental and different so I like it 8)
Favorite tracks so far are:
Do Today
Luv Of My Life
Killer Dope
Hydromatic
Accross The Map
Nobody
Boogie Til You Konk Out
Flow For Sale
So Compton
The End + its Quik's Groove
Ok now let's bang it with Beats By Dre headphones 8)
-
Can someone hollat at me please
-
Can't understand the hype.
So I'm at track 12 (the one with Cube) now, and not 1 track blew me away.
I really like Quik's music, but this is nowhere near Trauma if you ask me. Something always ruins it for me... most of the times it's Quik's flow. I mean it's still the flow he always had, but he sounds wrong on nearly all songs. Most hooks are horrible (wow @ the wackass Bizzy hook on across the map) eg The beat of Killer dope is a monster, but Quik sounds so boring....
Songs that get mad hype like Nobody just souund weird to me.... even corny at times... Only song I'm really feeling is Real woman so far.
edit: ok sounds a bit better after the last tracks. The beats on the last 4 tracks are all really nice, dwele and the end give me chills. Even liked flow for sale despite Kurupt.
-
been waiting for this the past couple of days! about to check it out :bandit: :bandit: :bandit: :bandit: :bandit: :bandit: :bandit: :bandit: :bandit: :bandit:

same here. and i'm a quik fan... fyi

Bottomline, Grown Folk Music.
8) this album.
-
I was expecting much more. But I've just listened to it once.
Did he change the beat of "Boogie till you conk out" ?? I thought it was much more funky..
Standout tracks for the moments: "Do today", "Nobody", "So Compton".
I would have liked to hear El Debarge on it and of course much more Suga Free. Quik always step his game up when he has Suga with him. Nobody is my favorite track.
-
Did he change the beat of "Boogie till you conk out" ?? I thought it was much more funky..
The version of the mixtape is a remix
-
update: the album is growing on me 8) btw. am i the only one who feels Hydromatic? When it leaked for the first time most people here wasn't feeling it, right?
Flow For Sale is dope too. Along with Fire And Brimstone these are my fav tracks so far.
-
Quik's Groove is perfect 8)
-
Did he change the beat of "Boogie till you conk out" ?? I thought it was much more funky..
The version of the mixtape is a remix
Yeah forgot that it was on the mixtape that I heard it. So am I the only one to like much more the remix than the retail version ?? Retail version is not bad but too soft.

You're not the only one, I'm not into these smooth R&B-type beats.
-
Killer Dope is one of my fav tracks on the album.
"I bet Eazy-E is turnin over in his grave. To see some of y'all done made Gangsta Rap gay."
Real talk.
-
first half of the album is kinda dull IMO, second half is much better. needs more spins to have a more thorough impression but overall it seems to be a pretty good release for the spring and the upcoming summer.
-
Sounds like Quik made an album to play strictly at park picnics/BBQs.
Did he change the beat of "Boogie till you conk out" ?? I thought it was much more funky..
The other version you heard was the remix, the album version seems to have lost the boogieness.

the album grows on me. bumpin it whole day.. on my 5th spin
its great! :) "hydromatic" is my shit.. and "Nobody"
((some horrible crap on it too, like "poppin" - amatuerish production
overall
6.5/10 (BBQ/mood-music album)
Excellent job Quik, you are definitely a musician/genius.
genius?
???
smh,
and Pharrell Williams is a god right?
Hiphop never had a multifaceted genius.

what do you think of the leaked hydromatic compared to the LP version?
boogie till you conk out is strange, the remix beat is a lot funkier and seems to fit the vocals better too.

This album is great!!! But it could be a classic Album (better then Balance and Options) if he put those missing two tracks on it instead of Babylon and Across the Map!
Thank You Quik that you gave us such a smooth Album

This thread is comedy gold. These reactions are pretty embarrasing and a little sad. A lot of sig worthy material here.
As to the album itself, it's obviously trash. Just more of the same recycled beats and subject matter from Quik. 1997 called, it wants its music back.
hey fruitcake sftu.. your taste in music is trash
-
Oke 4 real... Im very disappointed about this album. And dont say its got too hyped or you just had to much expectations because thats always an favorite excuse to make.
Ofcourse i have high expectations, thats why somebody is "fan".Because that artist is doing his own shit. So im became a fan of Quik himself because of rithem-all-isme,balance& options,Safe&sound. First i'de only liked the productions he made 4 other artist because as a rapper i dont like him allot.Too much the same&sometimes like reading a book outloud like poppin. When i heard about this album and what he said about it himself i thought ok..this would be the ultimate Quik as an artist!! Music-artist!.Lets see where you left of..
And now...Damn WTF. In my opinion he can do better,In my opinion he did better 4 other artists. Its sounds like the beats miss that final touch for some reason..when i hear the intro of any song i was like..yeah oke nice!..but then it goes on and on the whole song..why! Why not make it perfect by changing the music a little bit during the song, produce it a little bit more!!!!! :o Like fire and brimstone..to me it sounds too raw, like you have too different sounds on your laptop playing you know,Why not smooting it up so it flows better???! Second thing on the album: The only different thing 4 a song he used is getting an other voice over the songs and that makes the variation into the beat.Like do today and real woman, hydromatic 4 example. Why? And boogie..is better in remix. Why not go further with that beat?! Is he nowadays needing people to get the whole package? He's a great producer no doubt, but why he didnt nail it for his own album? Because there were too litlle other influences?Come on..!
If you hear Nobody- YES!YES! Killer dope-Yes! Luv of my life-Yes! expectations were going high..Album out..just bummer..damn..
Flow for sale ,So compton (beat) YEah
Conclusion: It could've be better. Album not getching 4 some reason..Its looking unfinished...Im not excited,i think its not an album you pick out your closeth everyday to listen.
And dont call me hater..:) Thats just too simple ;) Im just being objective
Ps: Ofcourse im not talking about quiks groove.. Ps2: Ghetto rendezvous is just stupid to do that
-
Best thing about this album is it sounds like a "QUIK" album.
I hate the current Hip-Hop sound, That "Repeat one word 1000x hook, Gay robot, Drake/MInaj style voice ect..."
Good to hear the OG blueprint being used.

Real shit.
The more I llisten to the album the more I like it. There are only like 2 songs that could've been left off.
"Killer Dope" is just classic Quik!!! Been playin it the most.
"Do Today" & "Fire & Brimstone" classic Quik sound once again.
"Boogie Til You Conk Out" some fresh sounding, smooth ass new shit. Sounds wayyyyy better than that remix to me. The remix was kinda bland.
"So Compton", "Flow For Sale", "Nobody" and the new Quik's groove = too dope. 8)
Lovin the rest as well, except for "Hydromatic" and "Ghetto Rendezvous". They're cool songs but not as good as the rest of the album imo.
-
The only problem I have with the album after only a few listens, is that not all the songs flow together well.
-
damn im feelin alot of this!! its crazy tho, my 2 favs are the kurupt and suga free song (2 of my fav rappers)...bangin ass beats mane!
-
Dope cd
-
The only problem I have with the album after only a few listens, is that not all the songs flow together well.
True.... not the most cohesive album created by Quik. But, it's music and I like it!

Hmm 6.5/10 is actually a disappointing mark in school if your looking for "great"... Your saying a C ??
Giving it a second spin it's cool. Ghetto Rendevous is such a waste... fuck one of my fav. beats on the album and he spends the whole track dissing his sister? Common son ... didn't he ramble on for 3 minutes too in G-Shit? Man he needs to go to counseling and get that shit out so he doesn't waste good beats on it.
Also is it me or is the Ice Cube feature just really awkward? Mediocre beat but it doesn't fit Cube. Other dope stuff I'll keep going. I like the outro song (after the horrible 2 minutes).
-
i am the only one here who thinks Babylone is dope?
no wack track on The Book Of David!
Killer Dope is my shit!! the beat is so dope!!! luv it!

I'm with yoy Snoopaveli, Babylon is dope as hell, great track, maybe i'm a little biased because i'm a Bizzy's fan. On the other hand, i'm not feeling Hydromatic, sounds boring to me.

I am digging this album.... this is not classic or groundbreaking, but just a cool ass record. period.
I am def loving it. Like someone said before, it sounds like a QUIK album. And thats what matters to me....
Def liking the album version of Boogie til u conk out better than that remix....gotta admit that ghetto rendevouz... a tight ass beat was wasted on a rather depressing/ annoying subject matter.... keep the family stuff private IMO.
poppin and babylon are the only tracks I am not into as of right now.... maybe thats gonna change.
other than that, I hope Quik wont need another 6 years to put out another record.
this album will be most likely my album of the year....
oh yeah... and Quik's Groove is the shit on this.
Quik should just drop a Quik's Groove album. How about that?
-
This album fucking sucks .This seriously sounds worse than the Fixxers stuff , but similar in style to it . This shit is SOFT AS FUCK . Quik really needs to retire or go back to his roots . His flow on the mic is even getting worse . Even the Cube track is gay . This will be the last time I even bother with him .All these songs are either aimed at the ladies , or have weak ass R and B choruses ...Not even 2 tracks on here that resemble the classic Quik .

Where's the best place to purchase from the UK?

This album has dope beats but boring arrangements, and the vocals were clearly an afterthought when putting this project together. Let's keep it real: Quik should try releasing a 50 min instrumental album and let people just use their imagination or they can do their own freestyles to it or whatever. On a lot of the tracks, the vocals distract from the beats and make the songs more boring than they would be otherwise. Again, the arrangements are very simple and plain, as if Quik made dope skeleton beats and left them as that instead of developing them further AFTER laying down the vocals. Quik said he did this whole album in a few months, and it shows. A lot of it sounds half-baked. Quik is a talented enough musician to craft dope beats like these in a short amount of time, but I wish he would have spent six more months on post-production to flesh each song out a lot further.
Overall, I'd say if this were a first draft, I'd give it an A, but since this is this final draft, so to speak, I have to give it a C. Dope beats + lackluster everything else (including the other production elements) = average, just imo. And "C" means "average" in the American school system ;D

Dude you must be new to Quik. Most of his stuff is ''soft''. Most of the time Quik uses R&B choruses and all his songs are R&B/Jazz/Soul influenced. Not even 2 tracks that resemble the classic Quik? I think you need to delete the album and go listen to some Slaughterhouse or Eminem. This is some grown up music. Not for the angry gangsta rap kids...
-
Where's the best place to purchase from the UK?
Amazon.com not co.uk , thats where i get all my westcoast cds.

I think you need to delete the album and go listen to some Slaughterhouse or Eminem. This is some grown up music. Not for the angry gangsta rap kids...
lol you're right

If folks say this album sucks, than I dont know what they would call Ice Cube's last album??? or the two Detox singles...
Quik's never had that hardcore gangsta sound... I cant believe dudes say this is soft and what else.
-
" New to Quik " ??? Fuck , son .I have ALL of his shit , even the Menace to Society soundtrack . He had a trademark sound that earned him major fanfare with his first 3 albums , and then he claimed he wasn't a gangster anymore , and he became soft as fuck .His first 2 albums had zero R and B , and tracks like "Dollaz and Sense " made him a legend . He used to use lots of samples with scratching in the chorus ( Born and Raised ) , nowadays his beats suck and his flow sucks ." John Doe " was his last great piece of work .The Fixxers , BlaQKout, and this new album aren't even rap music , just plain weak . I know that the sound he started with is dated , but this shit just sounds generic . He has lost 80 % of his original fans because he is doing shit like Dre did when he claimed he wasn't doing gangster shit anymore like on that bullshit Aftermath Compilation . Cube's last album sucked as well . I bet W.C 's new shits outsells Quik 's because W.C kept it real and is putting out quality music .
-
can't wait to listen to this album, but 1st and foremost I have to check out the Bizzy Bone track. Not to take anything away from the album but I been waiting to hear this in full CDQ. After I hear that track I can respectfully listen to the album. 8)
FOR ALL YOU DUMB FUCKS THAT JUST SIT AROUND AND SKIM THREW THE ALBUM....STFU ! YOU NEED A NEW HOBBY !....

the album grows on me. bumpin it whole day.. on my 5th spin
its great! :) "hydromatic" is my shit.. and "Nobody"
((some horrible crap on it too, like "poppin" - amatuerish production
overall
6.5/10 (BBQ/mood-music album)
Hmm 6.5/10 is actually a disappointing mark in school if your looking for "great"... Your saying a C ??
music-board tho, not school
6.5 is a great rating in my book.
and i never gave an album a 10 ever ever..

Quik never claimed that he was a gangster till 1995. And that was just a phase being involved with the Row. His first 2 albums were party records! That's was the difference between him and other West Coast cats back in the day. In 1995 he changed his style a bit because of Death Row being involved and the MC Eiht bullshit. Dollaz + Sense didn't make him a legend. He became a legend by releasing dope albums every few years. With that track Quik showed the world that he could make gangster rap. And where did Quik lost his so called 80% of his fanbase? Then you know and talk to a lot of people lol. The Quik fans I have spoken all love this record. And I mean real fans who appreciate real music. And why are you talking about WC and Ice Cube? This is about DJ Quik and your post. But I don't want to argue with you. I can't win it because you don't know what you're talking about.

hey i gotta question
Im pretty sure I heard Quik drop Pharrell's name in the last track, "The End". What's this all about?
The line:
"Pharrell ask me why I gangbang/That aint your fuckin business, stay out my lane man"

You're a fucking idiot. Judging by your karma, you are a straight hater. What music do you like? It's obviously not rap. This album is solid as fuck. Go sit on a cock you faggot bitch. Go rub one out & choke yourself to your hair metal music......

Anyone catch the censored line in the third verse of "Killer Dope"? At 3:25, it goes:
"I ain't no house nigga like ________, if this if UAC music what makes it so aweful?"
Anyone know who he was talking about in that line?
-
Someone mentioned Cube's album earlier in a response to my post ..But anyhoo , listen to the lyrics of his first 2 records dumbfuck . They had plenty of gangster in them ." You want the rubber from a gangster boot to your grill ? Come take a ride with me and listen to the thrill of an ass whoopin, issued by the brothers in the khaki pants"from the song "Deep" ...On " Way too Fonky " listen to the title track and tell me those arent gangster lyrics ..Also , " Jus Lyke Compton " is all about him comparing other sets to his own . "Safe and Sound" was extremely gangster . Fuck the top 40 rap you were talking about ..I hate that shit .W.C keeps it gangster and will outsell this shitty product by Quik , GUARANTEED. You all must be on crack ..This shit isn't even close to the potential Quik has shown . He performed in Chico ,Ca last week and the 700 person capacity wasn't even half filled. Everybody left cause the music sucked and he wasn't the same guy they thought they had paid to see . My boy who opened for him got a better response .Let's get some scratching , sampling , and some lyrics that are half way decent .

Crown of Thorns
Dragon Slayer

I haven't heard this album yet but I agree with dude who said Quik changed his style. I became a fan of his after listening to "Quik is The Name". Loved "Way 2 Fonky" and "Safe & Sound". After that though, it all went down hill for me. A few songs here and there were dope but overall I was disappointed in his direction. I'll give this one a shot and see how this record is though.

Listen to "Can't Fuck Wit A Nigga" from the Menace to Society soundtrack and tell me that's a party track . He was best at being straight gangster ; the music was phenomenal ..That track is what he is best at..Scratching , sampling , and going hard on the lyrics . This new shit is SOFT AS FUCK, even worse than the Fixxer's bullshit .

Pretty inconsistent reviews ... 1/5 to 5/5 people saying this is the best shit ever. I'd be interested in what professionals review this. Anyone know the Source, XXL, or any other magazine for that matter? For me I'm still about 3/5.

And "C" means "average" in the American school system ;D
excactly, like i said in my post earlier,it needs production, review, flow.he has done it 4 others, why not now on his own album,he had good stuff to work with but didnt finished all the way.first draf yes.

Is the remix of Boogie Til You Conk Out only available on that mixtape? I'd like to hear a version of that remix without the Quik outro.

I ordered my copy from Amazon & waiting until it arrives before I listen to it

why people mad?
Amen. This is one of the best releases on the West Coast since...shit I don't know. Game? At any rate, this album delivers.
-
Gave this album a few spins yesterday and I must say I'm hella impressed 8)
Def one of the best West Coast releases in the last 3 years and as far as Quik discography goes - it's up there with "Under Tha Influence" and def better than "Trauma". It has that vintage Quik shit mixed with a new "Blaqkout" type of sound. But from a musical stand point, it's really a great project. Only track I can't put myself into is "Poppin" - I don't have nothing against minimalistic production as I liked "9x Outta 10" a lot but this one is just ain't my cup. The rest is good, great and bangin'. Best tracks for me are "Nobody", "So Compton", "Do Today", "Boogie Till You Conk Out" and "Flow For Sale". Overall, great album for today's standards - def going to cop it 8)
-
I've heard the album & its a good album. I'd rate it up there with rhythm-a-lism & balance & options for good dj quik albums. Only songs that weren't good were no.1 fire & brimstone & no.10 across the map. I hope I can get this album.
-
GREAT THING ABOUT DJ QUIK MUSIC IS THAT IT ALWAYS GROWS IN YOU ...
AND THE BETTERE QUALITY LISTENING DEVICE U USE THE BETTER THE MUSIC IS.....
CUZ THERES SO MANY SOUNDS IN THE SONG.., THNX QUIK
-

Amen. This is one of the best releases on the West Coast since...shit I don't know. Game? At any rate, this album delivers.
oh pleze ::) just fuckin blow me already... i'm ready boo, all u gotta do is suck it
-
as a huge quik, im kinda dissapointed.. i don´t know but the sound doesnt fit the time, i liked where quik was going with the trauma and blaqkout sound.. this sounds like he tried to do rhytmalism in 2011.
for me its an 3.5/5 album
i´m just missing some stand out beats, like ladies und thugs, till jesus comes, or cream n your panties, and blaqkout stuff
most beats are average on this one, and i´m sure that most quik fans who are celbrating this album wouldnt call that album excellent when there was an other name on the disc 8)
-
Dope album from Quik, a little over-hyped on here though ..
Tracks that stood out:
Fire & Brimstone
Do Today
Ghetto Rendezvous
Killer Dope
Hydromatic
Nobody
So Compton
Groove
-
this def not the best quik album
this mo like a compilation
it doesnt have that...ALBUM sound.. . that theme.....
guess dats why its called BOOK OF DAVID
-
Classic album.not just the best album of the year but This one of the top 5 hip hop albums 2 ever be released.the people that's giveing it bad feedbacks is just his sisters & all the people he dissed & a few haters he ddnt give a autograph 2 etc.its not that they don't like album becuz its classic.they just don't like quik personally.
-
I give this album a 4/5. And for the people who say Quik changed his style, well almost all his albums have a different feel to them. His albums have changed as he's grown. You can't do straight gangsta shit forever, and it's not like Quik ain't angry on this album. He's sounds pretty pissed off and emotional on a lot of the album. I love it when he does that. I have a feeling this album will eventually reach a 5/5 status, definite grower. People just need to let the album soak in. To those people that say the album sucks, go listen to some new garbage gangsta rap, or the crap that's on the radio. This album is for mature people who like real music.

i love this album from 4 days
i like the style of Quik in this album and all the songs, except maybe for Babylon
his style is always fresh and it's a trademark for Quik's music
i will buy it fosure
-
After a few spins, I'll just say this is a solid album. 3.5/5.
Realistically, there are no mindblowing beats on here. Some good ones: Fire and Brimstone, Killer Dope...
But since Trauma, I haven't heard a Quik production that was straight fire. That I could listen to for years and still discover something new (see Safe & Sound, We Still Party, Well, etc).
Fresher Than Me was probably that song, but it's not here. Lyrics seem more like that vintage Quik too.
-

word, there is a real variety of feedback in here, trolls aside. all types of stuff from terrible to classic, to quik changed his sound too much, didn't change it enough. i'm surprised that anyone who didn't enjoy rhythamalism and the albums since then (this is quik's sound IMO) would expect to be feeling it. also quite a bit discrepancy over whether it's better than trauma or not. for me, trauma is one of those albums that got less interesting over time and didn't seem to have the replay value of B&O, rhythamalism and even UTI. i think the way quik described it recently as being a more barebones album musically, that goes a long way to explaning why it's replay value has decreased.
will definitely give some proper feedback/a review on the whole thing over the next couple of weeks, after the disc arrives and i've given it a lot more spins.
-
I love like this album. It's tight!
-
4/5
Quik is my favorite musician so I've been looking forward to this album. Overall, it's dope but a couple of songs could have been left out completely, a couple of others replaced with the other version of them that we've already heard and a few song could have benefited by being a little longer. But there are a lot of great song on here so it's hard to knock the entire album for the it's flaws.
1. Fire and Brimstone - Something about the drums just don't sit right with me, it's like I can't bob my head to it, it's just off. An alright song though, Quik could have picked a better song to open the album with, I think G-Shit (without all the talking at the end and before the beat changes up) could have worked as an into.
2. Do Today - Nice song, great production, I would have prefered it to be on a Jon B album and not a DJ Quik album as it's a little to R&B for my taste but is a good song.
3. Ghetto Rendezvous - Another great pissed off Quik track. Beat is a little simple and repetative, not a whole lot going on with it but it works. Quik's going off on this one, sucks that he has to go through all that crazy shit but it makes for an interesting song.
4. Luv of My Life - Classic, smooth but funky Quik track right here! Dope beat, gets the noggin' bobbin' fo sho. Great hook.
5. Babylon - Out of place, even if it was on a Bizzy Bone album it still wouldn't be a great track, the song doesn't sound right for Quik or Bizzy. it's decent I guess but it's definitaly not for me. It bumps in the hooptie though, that's a possitive thing. Should have been left off.
6. Killer Dope - This is a very, very good song; not the typical Quik production but it's damn good. He has some funny lines on here and a classic one about Eazy-E (it's the truth!). Love Quik's flow on this track, great hook. Classic.
7. Real Women - I really appreciate those classic Quik scratches on the hook (wish Quik had more of it on this album, can't get enough of that shit). Very smooth but not too R&B-ish, it still fits in with the rest of the album. Nice song over all.
8. Poppin' - Alright song but the beat and the hook kind of gave me the feeling that 100% wasn't put into the overall production. Would have like to have heard the verses over a different beat with a different hook. As it is, it could have been left off or replaced with something dope and it wouldn't have mattered to me. It is what it is. Next!!!!....
9. Hydromatic - Another banger! Not sure how I feel about throwing Gift in on the begining of the song, seemed like an after thought after the original version was already done. Still prefer the original version, I would rather hear DJ Quik rapping instead of Gift, but it seems like he was trying to show off Gift and Jon more than get down himself; Quik still should have had another verse though as the song is a little too short, just under three minutes. A dope song either way.
10. Across the Map - Much better use of Bizzy on this one (Bizzy featuring on this song was enough, no need for Babylon; shit he featured more on Quik's album then he does on Bone albums ;D) and Bun B sounds tight as well on this track. It has a little of that south-ish sound to it but not too much to were it didn't fit in with the rest of the album. And Rodney-O speaking at the end was dope, O.G. West Coast right there. Short, under three minutes.
11. Nobody - Classic DJ Quik! As soon as the beat drops, before any words are spoken it's already dope! This is what I expect from Quik. Quik and Suga Free need to do a whole album together and stop bullshittin' already. Both are on point here and hook is catchy as fuck.
12. Boogie Till You Conk Out - Too soft, specially with Cube on it, they should have gone harder at it. The Remix should have been on the album instead.
13. Flow For Sale - Classic laid back Quik track, reminds me of his Rhythmalism sound. Kurupt came though a little better than average, at least he's not rhyming bitch with bitch and shit with shit and ending it with eata dick. Overall a very good song, classic Quik guitar in full effect but short, again under three minutes.
14. So Compton - Another song reminisent of Quik's Rhythmalism / Balace & Options days with that guitar in there again. Great track.
15. Time Stands Still - Sounds too much like R. Kelly's "Strip For You" off of his TP2.com, again just way to soft. It would be cool if it was on some R&B singers album and Quik was just featuring on it but it shouldn't be on here.
16. The End? - Some funky shit going on here fo sho with that "street level" into, reminds me of the "Street Level Entrance" off of Safe + Sound which is still my favorite DJ Quik album. The actual song is dope, a real smooth gangsta vibe to it but it was too short clocking in at just under three minutes. Great song.
Quik's Groove comes up some 4 minutes after the end of "The End?". Great instrumental, I wish Quik would have it at the end as a bunus track with it's own track number so it's easier to get to instead of having to skip through over four minutes of nothing; but lets just be happy we got another Quik's Groove.
-
1. Fire & Brimstone - Incredible album opener! I love the way Quik starts the song out, dope beat and dope lyrics. Sounds pissed off.
2. Do Today - Classic smooth Quik production. Lyrics are about partying and enjoying life. This is my second favorite song on the album.
3. Ghetto Rendezvous - Worst song on the album. Beat is dope but gets repetitive and it's not cool to air so much personal shit out there in my opinion, once again he's pissed but I don't enjoy it this time. Should've been replaced with "Fresher Than Me".
4. Luv of My Life - Fuckin fire! Dope ass mellow beat, lyrics are Quik talking about all the material shit he loves. Sounds REALLY good in the ride.
5. Babylon - I don't see what people don't like about this song, I love it. Beat is mellow and futuristic, rapping is good even though Quik started out a little off beat.
6. Killer Dope - My favorite song on the album. Incredible beat, great piano, real clear and crisp sounding with a dope bass line. Rapping is dope even though, once again, he sounds pissed at someone and a little bitter.
7. Real Women - Nice laid back cut. Very R&B, and I love it.
8. Poppin - Man this shit is hard. Quik and KK drop good verses. Sounds like gangsta Quik and the bass had my car shaking.
9. Hydromatic - I liked this song when I first heard it, but not as much anymore. It's not bad but that other song Quik played that didn't make the album sounded much better. Could've been left off.
10. Across The Map - Like Hydromatic, I tought this was good on the first listen, but I quickly got bored of it. Beat doesn't fit the rest of the album to me, even though it's not a bad song.
11. Nobody - Fuckin classic Quik and Suga Free shit! This song has been out for a long ass time and I STILL love it. Funky ass production.
12. Boogie Til You Conk Out - Damn this song is too good. Much better than that remix which I thought was bland sounding. Futuristic jazzy beat, and fuckin Ice Cube!! Been waiting on this collabo for quite some time and I wasn't disappointed.
13. Flow For Sale - Extremely dope beat! Sounds like something off of Safe & Sound with the guitars. Quik did well but Kurupt could have done a better job, though he wasn't horrible.
14. So Compton - Another stand out. Very west coast and very smooth. KK does most of the rapping here, with Quik on the hook. Great song.
15. Time Stands Still - I like this song but it doesn't flow well with the rest of the album imo.
16. The End? - Nice beat and lyrics, but this bitter sounding Quik is getting old. He should deal with that personal shit behind closed doors.
17. Quik's Groove 9(I think) - AMAZING!! This is already my favorite Quik's groove. Very jazzy with the guitars, well arranged song. Love it.
Honestly I put this album right behind Balance & Options as Quik's fourth best album. I'm satisfied and I can't wait on whatever else he's got planned.
-
3. Ghetto Rendezvous - Worst song on the album. Beat is dope but gets repetitive and it's not cool to air so much personal shit out there in my opinion, once again he's pissed but I don't enjoy it this time. Should've been replaced with "Fresher Than Me".
Actually my favourite beat on the album... it sounds very fresh compared to everything else! Ya I'm really disappointed with the content ... calling your nephew Al Quaeda is just too much for me as a fan... I don't wanna know that shit! I'm sure that kid will get picked on for the rest of his life now at school :-X
**Killer Dope reminds me of Push Play on the Truth Hurts album.
-
I haven't heard this album yet but I agree with dude who said Quik changed his style. I became a fan of his after listening to "Quik is The Name". Loved "Way 2 Fonky" and "Safe & Sound". After that though, it all went down hill for me. A few songs here and there were dope but overall I was disappointed in his direction. I'll give this one a shot and see how this record is though.
didn't even like rhytmalism?
I thought it was ok. I am curious to hear this new cd though. With Quik, I feel like it's always worth giving him a shot.
-
I haven't heard any of the tracks on this album. It seems like everyone is satisfied with the product. I'll check it out on youtube & if I like it; I'll cop at best buy next week when i get paid.
-
what do you do with the code once you copy it?? I dont really download music but Ive been wanting to bump that song with Bizzy and BunB in my ride for over a year now.. still going to buy the CD on tuesday... thanks!!
-
Truth is, in this era of music, there is no way to make an album that everyone will like. Just look at these last pages, you got people saying "Quik changed his style up" Then you got people saying "Quik sounds the same as he always does, never does anything different". How can you win?? Dre's in the same boat with Detox.
This album has the same qualities of all of Quik's albums. He's got about 3 or 4 really stand out tracks that i'll be bumping a lot (Killer Dope, Flow for Sale [sounds awesome in stereo headphones] and So Compton" About 6 or so good songs that you don't need to skip, but don't have you wanting to put them on repeat, then a few where he tries to experiment and do something crazy and can't quite pull it off and are skippable. The track "Nobody" would have been mind blowing if we hadn't heard it close to a year ago. It was mind blowing back then, so i think people forget about that. I skip it now just because i've played it so much this past year. Look at his past albums, Rhythmalism, Balance and Options, Trauma, etc...they all had skippable tracks as well, none of his albums are fantastic from start to finish (like Soopafly's albums are). I don't know why people were thinking this album was going to be any different. There are hits and misses just like his other ones; but that doesn't make it a bad album. I think people are like "oh Rhythmalism, that's the best Quik album ever", which it probably is, but there are a few bad tracks on there too. I think the weak guest list on this one hurts it a bit too, no real big names on it besides Ice Cube and Suga Free (on one track apiece). Look at Trauma, he had Nate Dogg, Game, Ludacris, T.I., Wycleff, Chingy, AMG, Jodeci, etc....on this one he's got Bizzy Bone on 2 tracks, who is OK, but hasn't dropped anything hot in years, KK of 2nd II None on a bunch of them and a few other nobodies. Don't get me wrong, I love some solo Quik songs, but a few more 'westcoast' guest appearances probably would have helped. He couldn't get snoop on there to drop a verse after being so intrumental in his last album "QDT production"?? Debarge should've been on a track, along with another Suga Free one. I'm just glad it wasn't another "Under The Influence", that album was horrid apart from maybe 2 or 3 songs, especially after coming off the fantastic "Balance and Options". I hate it when he releases a so-so album, because then i think to myself "great, i gotta wait another 3 years before another one comes out". Luckily, The Book Of David is really good.
I don't know, this is defintely the best album released this last year, it's most likely the best westcoast rap album we'll ever get anymore. It's pretty hard to keep the traditional west coast flavor and sound while at the same time trying to come up with something new to keep some newer fans interested. I think all and all Quik did a good job. If you look at his last two attempts "Blakqout" and "Fixxers", he was on some real experimental stuff that just wasn't working for me, so i'm glad he got back to his normal music. I do think this album is one of his top five albums of his career (maybe 4th or 5th best), so that's pretty good. As someone else said it, it is grown up music.
-
nice post soopafly! , ughhmmm this album is pretty dope, pretty experimental and some of the drum tracks on songs like killer dope and the intro are alittle hard on my ears. on the other hand, songs like NOBODY and FLOW FOR SALE are WHAT IM TALKIN BOUT! classic as fuck quik production as good as its ever been with great verses all the way across. No one is mentioning how sick quik flowed on NOBODY. I agree another track with suga free and maybe another kurupt and or snoop woulda been great. KK does nothing for me and neither do the new guys like on love of my life. Overall, theres alot of beautiful music, alot of instruments to deceifer and QUIK is in a wierd place lyically...yall are right he shouldnt have aired his sister and nephew out so hard but whatever, quik has never been shy on the mic...hhaha
overall i give it 3.75/5 (kinda along the lines of blaqout) and i think theres about 4-5 songs on here that will be saved and make it into DJ Quik's greatest jams 8)

Tha filler on tha album made it lackluster and the sequencing on tha album literally made it worse. In this particular order it would've made luv 2 tha ears a little more sweeter...

Once I buy the real copy of the album next week I'm going to take out the songs that I wasn't really feeling and add in a couple of the leaked songs instead, re-sequence the songs so they flow better and make myself the version that I wish would have came out (as it is the album is already very good). I'll probably end up splitting up The End? and have the Quik's Groove part of the song on it's own separate track so I can get to it easier. Quik is coming to town next Saturday for a show and I got VIP tickets so I'ma have him sign the store copy and put it away and just bump my version of The Book Of David; I have a feeling I'll be bumpin it for a while.

Nobody
Time Stands Still
Great album. Best westcoast album in 6 years.
-
Best Quiks Groove in years too.
-
haha his lyrics are funny as hell sometimes..ahis disses are great...i laughted big time sometimes ...great album
-
Killer Dope is one of my fav tracks on the album.
"I bet Eazy-E is turnin over in his grave. To see some of y'all done made Gangsta Rap gay."
Real talk.
Yup. And I bet Eazy would be proud of how Quik is airing shit on twitter girly stye dissing his former partners AMG and Suga Free...
-
This album is really fuckin solid. Definately my favourite album of the past few years.
That being said im not really feeling the first 8 tracks much, but everything after track 8 is pretty much perfect.
Hydromatic - Dope beat
Across the Map - Bizzy bone spits dope, even tho im not really into these futurstic style beats i like this alot
NOBODY - Classic track. Absoloute classic.
Boogie till you conk out - actually prefer this to the remix
Flow For sale - dooope as beat
So compton - Perfect
Time Stands still - Real relaxing track, love to just sit back and listen
The End - Another relaxing track, probably the 3rd best beat on the album, love the synth and guitar
Quiks Groove 9 - No words can describe other than Legendary!
-
A few observations after listening to most of the tracks at least once:
- Do Today, So Compton and Nobody are great! Both have that classic Quik funk and bounce that we know and love;
- Boogie has a brilliant beat, with the safari-like synth going on in the background, I just wish that Cube's verse was a bit better and that the outro was a bit longer because those drums knock hard 8);
- The synths in the chorus of Fire and Brimstone really make that song for me, nice solid drums as well, but unusual arrangement which takes time to get used to;
- That little beat switch up at the end of Nobody is a nice addition, really caught me off guard the first time I heard it;
- Flow For Sale is also a standout track, sounds like it could fit in on BlaQKOut;
- The bass on Poppin is insane! My headphones could barely contain it so I dread to think what my system will make of it when the CD is released;
- Some songs such as Poppin and Killer Dope have very minimalist production I noticed, which makes a refreshing change in today's often over-produced and jumbled beats, but will take some getting used to coming from DJ Quik.
Overall it's a great album, I'm really impressed, and will definately be purchasing a copy next week. However, I wish that Fresher Than Me was on here instead of Across The Map, which I feel doesn't really belong on this album, and I know that that's a sentiment expressed by other forum members too.
-
How come Snoop Dogg never uses beats like "Fresher Than Me"... that's that WestCoast shit they yellin bout!
-
I'm gonna go out and say best westcoast release since restless
-
I'm gonna go out and say best westcoast release since restless
no, no it isn't.
-
I don't get the love for "Fresher Than Me" and the hate for "Across The Map. I love "Across The Map", different sound from Quik and great features from Bizzy Bone & Bun B. "Fresher Than Me" is just boring to me, he made the right decision to keep that off.
-
I like the album, but probably not as much as most of you seem to. Hopefully it will grow me. I like that the sound doesn't feel forced like Trauma did.
Quik kept saying in interviews that he recorded the album in a month, and he meant it as a good thing, but it always worried me. And it sounds like an album that was recorded in a month. I mean, I wouldn't like him taking forever to put an album together like Dre, but I get the feeling that he just put out the first 16 tracks that he recorded.
Still I'm enjoying it more than Trauma already, but it'll have to grow on me a lot more to even come close to his other solo albums.
I'm gonna go out and say best westcoast release since restless
I'd say best westcoast release since Montezuma's Revenge (Souls of Mischief)
-
i really dont like that loud ass drum he put in fire and brimstone, it kills the song for me. which sucks ass because that song would be really chill and fly if it wasn't for that shit
-
ion see how people can label somethin a classic off the 1st 3 or so listens...then wanna argue..
3-5 listen i dont even know what the fuck i jus listen too...on most shit...
u cant get pissy off somebody opinion
i keep shit like this in rotation for months on in....
then i decide rather its good or not...
across the map should been jus bun n bizzy...kuz quik was out of place on that shit...i mean listen to that shit..lol...little monkey

i haven't heard Quik's version but I assume it's decent. If I had 2 pick 1 i'd say either or. but like i said I never heard Quik's version (can't find it).

Trauma = Overrated album of the decade. It definitely has it's highlights but it's not all that.

well there's my answer then lol

1. Fire & Brimstone - 3.75/5. This beat is interesting. I'm not sure if I love it. It's cool but something about doesn't make me go :o It's a more than decent opener though.
2. Do Today - 4/5. This beat is more like it for me. Very musical & funky. Jon B fits this well. K.K. is cool too. Good summer sounding joint.
3. Ghetto Rendezvous - 3/5. This beat does nothing for me. Pretty boring. Who's Quik dissing? AMG again? lol. Track is ehh.
4. Luv of my Life - 3.75/5. This beat is tight. This is the type of stuff Quik fits better; once again, musical and funky. Solid track.
5. Babylon - 2/5. This starts off quite weird. It just has a weird vibe thus far that isn't enjoyable. Bizzy is so weird lol. This is just plain bad.
6. Killer Dope - 3.5/5. This beat is alright. Probably the best Quik rap on here so far. Hook is cool too.
7. Real Women - 3.5/5. Beat is cool. Jon B sounds good on it. Quik flows well on this. It's a good cut but nothing mind blowing.
8. Poppin' - 2.75/5. "Stop comparing me to Dre, before I come through with the scope on the K" that's a dope line. "Ain't Detoxin' with it" lol. Quik's raps start off well but the beat is nothing special at all and the hook is super annoying. K.K. offers nothing here; extremely average. So many better rappers Quik could be fucking with. "all you weird bearded queers could meet the fockers"... did he really say that? lol, one of the worst lines ever.
9. Hydromatic - 3.5/5. Beat is cool."Hy-dro-matic" in the background is tight. Gift sounds great on here; as does Jon B. This is a cool album cut. But again, not mind blowing.
10. Across the Map - 4/5. Beat is cool. I dig Quik's verse here. I still hate Bizzy's voice LOL. But he's better on here. Bun B is dope on this. I fuck with this joint.
11. Nobody - 4.5/5. I knew this would be funky. This is easily the album's best beat so far. I'm not a big Suga Free fan but he's DOPE on here. Best track on the album so far.
12. Boogie 'Til You Conk Out - 4/5. This beat is tight. Nice to see Cube on here. Very nice collaboration.
13. Flow for Sale - 3.75/5. This beat is very dope once again. Production starting to pick up in a good way. Kurupt is ok on it.
14. So Compton - 4.25/5. Again, this beat is more on point! I love this joint. The last few tracks have been fire.
15. Time Stands Still - 4.5/5. Quik/Dwele make a dope combo. Dwele is a fantastic singer. This is real R&B right here. I love this.
16. The End - 4/5. When the track picks up, it's funky and cool. Sounds like we get a surprise Quik's groove at the end which is dope. I know some hardcore Quik fans were disappointed when the tracklist came out and they didn't see a "Quik's Groove" on it, so this is a nice surprise.
Overall tracks 9-16 thankfully saved this from being a disaster. I was really wondering why this album was getting so much praise in the first few pages of this thread (I admit to stopped reading after a while lol). Some tracks are pure garbage but thank God for songs like "nobody" and "so compton."
I still don't think this album is as good as some in here claimed, but it's a good record thanks to the 2nd half of it. I understand the excitement surrounding Quik releasing a new album ;D
It's a solid 7/10 album
-
there was a version of 'come here' playing in that strip club clip with a quik verse right? i really don't remember, some people mentioned that before but the video was taken down pretty quickly...

dang i pretty much agree word for word. except i rate flow for sale better and its definetly my favorite along with the suga free track

This is Quik's worst album since Balance and Options . He has just plain lost his touch . He is very average on the mic now , and those beats pale in comparison to shit he did in the early to mid nineties .He needs to hang it up .He won't sell 20,000 copies , guaranteed. Very subpar music here . Even wannabes like Dre and Vidal could make better beats . GO BACK TO YOUR ROOTS OR RETIRE FOR GOOD , QUIK !

This is the best hip hop album i've heard in a fuckin long time.
Whether you like it or not you can't knock the production. Sound is huge and detailed as hell...still one of the dopest to ever do it, no question.

after listening to it thoroughly, i got to say this is really the most solid album after a long time. it is better than trauma.
i enjoyed trauma, but didnt really dug most of the features on it. the album is a bit overhyped IMO.
but book of david is just good stuff. been banging it every day in my car.... just a couple tracks that i am not feeling. but besides that it's as solid as it gets.
to those who say Quik didnt even produce Luv of my life, should hit up the studio with him for two hours and see for yourself what the producing process is like:

loving that T-shirt by the way!

decent reviews, i just ordered my copy from amazon, will be getting it friday probaly!, cant wait to hear it
-
there was a version of 'come here' playing in that strip club clip with a quik verse right? i really don't remember, some people mentioned that before but the video was taken down pretty quickly...
Yeah it featured Mistah FAB too. No Quik solo...
did you have it?

i just ordered mine from amazon too

I'm really dissapointed, especially after reading all the rave reviews on here. It's a alright album but imo Quiks worst, unlike most of this forum I love the first half of the album but pretty much dislike the whole second half, even So Compton which everyone seems to love.
The album really needs some party tracks aswell, a 'tonite' or 'Fandango' kind of track, still decent and I'll still cop it to support one of the greatest to ever touch the boards (I've not bought an album since college dropout)

everyone talks about fresher than me
but nobody talks about the song in this video with jon b in background music

They say when you have created something that polarizes ( like Quik's new album ), you are a true artist...
to me Luv of my life is a party track, it is a dance record... this one is what Pitch in on a party is to balance and options for this book of david album.
there are feel good/ party tracks on this album.

How can you dance to "Luv Of My Life"? It doesn't even have a hook, he's talkin.
Anyway it's a good album, he never made an album I wouldn't buy (except the Fixxers, I bet Eazy-E turned into his grave).

IMO this is the best release out the west in a long time.
Solid production the whole way through (except for babylon, that songs booty).
I'm really glad we got the Boogie Til You Conk Out remix on the mixtape because its leaps and bounds ahead of the album version.
And who is Quik talking about in Killer Dope when he says "I aint no house nigga like _____"?
-
not gonna front this is dj quiks best album in years . im feeling it . his last 3 albums have been weak
book of david = 3.5 stars outta 5

Just got to listen to the whole album and I love it that it feels like a throwback album. Love the old west. This will not be a commercially successful album, but it is one for the fans.
Would like to see him stop worrying about Dre though, and just appreciate all that he has accomplished and how nice his sound is.
-
Sensational album.
Feeling every track other than the two with Bizzy Bone.
But So Compton, Flow For Sale, Poppin - Just WOW!
So so so so good.
It is number 12 overall on iTunes! Make it number 1 in US!!!!!! buy it people!!!!! Top 10 exposure on iTunes ablum charts will give it great momentum.
-
Ive been a quik fan since I was 8 years old(12 years), hes my favorite artist. after listening to this more and more this album is really good and could be one of his best. Its 2011 folks, Nobody makes music like this. All the songs are above average and I would only take out "Babylon" and replace it with "Fresher then Me".
-
Finally the album is here. For me the record in 2011 so far. Trauma is already a classic in my opinion (damn it's been 6 years since it dropped) and I think this one here is even better. It has that vintage 90ies feeling with a new twist. I love it.
Still no "fresher than me"? I was hoping he'll release it as a itunes bonus track. to bad Dubcnn didn't ask him in the interview.
-
The more i listen to Fire & Brimstone the more i love this track. Overall im happy with the release and this will be in the car when the weekend arrives.

11 - Nobody - Quik and Suga NOBODY DOES IT BETTER
12 - Boggie Till You Conk Out - CLASSICALL ..TWO LEGEND ..CUBE ..NO WORDS

After the first listen, I'm not feeling this record. Just doesn't do anything for me. I will listen to it again though and see if it grows on me.
-
This album shits on anything out there!!!!DJ Quik is the reason the West Coast hasn't crumbled down completely!!SO COMPTON is fucking stupid magnificent...Fuck Detox who gives a fuck..THE BOOK OF DAVID IS POPPIN!!!
-
For me it's definitaly one of the best albums of the year so far. I would say it's the best album of the year so far but at the same time I'm really feelin Lynch's "Coathanga Strangla" album, it's sick as fuck (I only took a break from listening to it because Quik's album came out) and even before Lynch's album I banged the hell out of WC's "Revenge of the Barracuda" album. Really, I can't say which I like best, it depends what mood I'm in, Quik (smooth funky west coast), WC (straight gangster) Brotha Lynch (sick and disturbing in a great way). For me it's bigger than any one album, imo the last couple of months have been great for west coast albums in general (even Snoop had a handfull of good songs on his "Doggumentary" album) and I can't remember the last time I was able to really say that.
-
bumpin flow for sale .. now.. dj quik .. kurupt young gotti .. the sample of this music is KRAZYYY!!
-
Album's pretty solid. I dunno why the hate is out there for "Boogie til you conk out"; this version is MUCH better than the version that appeared on the mixtape.
Still wish this track was on the album; hopefully someday it'll be released

13 - Flow For Sale - classic .. kurupt verse 8)
Had to laugh at this. Kurupt's verse is arse just like he has been for a long time.
-
first time bumping the album I was really disappointed, second time I enjoyed it a bit more, I'll have to spin it a few more times before giving my review
and Gift is WACK

weakest songs are - babylon and do today . the rest is solid not great though

True. I absolutely love this beat but Kurupt makes me lol. Rhyming with the same words lol..... "mixture fix the present fixture is this world of mayhem say im quik over quik fire future music mixture" What the fuck lol.
-
It kinda feels like Balance & Options but more stripped-down musically, like as if you can tell he made it on the computer on some tracks.
-
Anybody hear about UFOS OVER JERUSALEM ? www.youtube.com
2011 end ofo the world no more albums from dj quik lmao

i wish quik would make an all instrumental album

2nd half of album SHITS on the first half

Who is the vocal sample at the end of Flow for Sale/beginnning of So Compton? It sounds like David Bowie or Jon Lydon from the Sex Pistols or something. Anyone know?
And why is there such a large gap between The End and the Groove? Is is like that on the actual physical release?
-

yes, just stupid a idea, he should have made it a separate track let alone have that stupid gap
-
After listening to TBOD a couple times, I have to say that it's not better than Trauma IMO. Musically it was good, and original. He had some real nice beats but the lyrical content was not what I was expecting. He was more personal in Trauma and spoke about his life and told stories. I like tracks on this album for sure but I can't say this album was better than Trauma as a whole.
-
My fav. track on the album is: Across The Map 8)
-
Album of the year no doubt. Fuck the haters. This has great replay value.

weakest songs are - babylon and do today . the rest is solid not great though
Agree on Babylon, but Do Today? Damn thats one of my favorites, I love that beat.

god damn , people can´t have opinions?
smh
this album is okay but i would´ve expected more from quik . to me this sounds like a watered down version of his old material . i´ll be listening to this more though, waiting for the songs to grow on me
-
Ill be bumping this for years..

IM DISAPPOINTED

I replayed this album many times and I'm sorry I'm gonna have to downgrade it to a 3/5 at best. Disappointing and I find myself skipping a lot of the tracks. If not, I'll skip them at the end ... very repetitive. :grumpy:
-
i have been bumpin this shit all week to get a feel for it, i'm sorry to say i skip half the songs. there is good beats but not one classic beat. i'm glad i bought it because i got the whole quik catalogue, but this album is wack. 2/5. Daz album is way better i picked both up at the same time, i never would have expected that. the first three beats on that daz album are all very memorable and classic imo.
-
also what the fuck is up with the non existant percussion section on boogie till u conk out and other tracks? that shit is not a good look. i hated when warren g did it on his last album n it just seems lazy or like they were trying toohard to be original, anyone else notice this? way to many skippable tracks on this bod album. very dissapointing.
-
worst album i ever heard for long time... can't believe dj quik added this bad album to his legendary discography...

-
Dope album. Still dont think it is better than Trauma but dope nonetheless
not quite as cohesive but tracks like not today and so compton easily put this ahead of trauma for me. trauma has a much harder sound and i think quik is most in the zone with his trademark smooth, funked-out tracks.

Yeah but lyrically for me BOD was lazy on a few tracks. Trauma lyrically was more on point. Musically though I dig the production on BOD. Not a bad release, one of those albums that is a grower for me I can tell the more I listen to it. Definitely will be bumping it all this summer.

yeah you're probably right, the music is more what i'm listening for. having said that, i think quik has some strong vocal performances on BOD (luv of my life, killer dope) and he definitely tries a lot of different things. there's a couple of funny lines in across the map that stuck in my head 'you little monkey'

For me, production with Quik I never waver with it. I'm one of the few that digged Under The Influence, that is a dope album to me. Production I always know I am gonna get something fresh and innovative from him. Lyrically Quik is either surprisingly dope or average for me. Still with all that said album for album he has one of the best catalogs in hip hop hands down IMO.
-
i know poppin' is the one of the least liked tracks and i'm not keen on it either, but the production is pretty interesting. the synths and atmosphere reminds me a lot of this...

Agreed. It's in heavy rotation for me now that I have the hard copy.

I think most people want a more consistent album from Quik, and it's only right that their expectations are high, the man is a musical genius.
With that said, I do skip some tracks, and that's weird from album coming from him.
Ghetto Rendevous and Luv Of My Life are, to me, timeless classics. You can hear G One all over Luv Of My Life.
It's a damn shame G One didn't do more on this album. I truly beleive that's what this album is missing.
W
-
Ghetto Rendevouz was weird and uncomfortable for me. Like I don't need to know all that info.
-
the FUCKIN BEST. PERIOD. man, i'm just grooving to this cd. it feels so good to have some new dj quitk music.
-
I gotta say after a few weeks, this is still in heavy rotation for me as well.... Luv of life, which i liked a lot from the get-go, basically manifested itself as a classic Quik track for me. just has thta typical funky, smooth groove sound to it.
ghetto rendevouz grew also big time on me. dug it from the beginning, but now it just has a clean ass track. i dont pay too much attention to the lyrics though.
overall, i only still skip poppin and babylon, but sometimes i end of listening to these tracks, and i start to appreciate them as well.
I think this album is as solid as it gets. with todays standard in the biz, this album is pretty damn dope. it just doesnt have one or two singles and the rest fillers. it has a lotta different sounds, and yet it sounds as if this album is cohesive in its sonic nature from track to track....
and it is totally cool if this album is hit or miss to peoples taste, cause I just dig the hell out it!
-

After listening to this album for a week. I hate to admit it, that it isn't that impressive... Sure there are some hot tracks on this...
Nobody, So Compton, and that Quiks groove are amazing, as well as Flow for sale
The leaks like Real Women, and Luv of My Life get some play as well... Those 6 mentioned are great, but the rest I wouldn't care whether or not they were replaced with other tracks.. I was expecting better
The reason the album is all over the place, is that it's Quik showing his versatility as a producer, to help gain him some work in the future, and to show his talents on different types of tracks... He pretty much catered for everyone on the album though...
After So Compton, Nobody & Quiks Groove, he needs to put out that unreleased tracks album from his 97-00 period

Really?! I've had it for about the same amount of time and it has only grown on me. What about Killer Dope, Across the Map, Fire & Brimstone?!! This is some of the best, most inventive music from any artist in years. Did you hear the song after the Garry Shider tribute? That shit is too smooth (not talking about the instrumental). Some Quik fans are getting too judgmental. This shit is fire.
-
Do Today is the joint for this spring, hopefully this shit explodes the way it deserves for the weeks to come. Nobody, So Compton, Quik's Groove are certified classics and dope album joints like Fire and Brimstone, Ghetto Rendezvouz and Babylon deserves a lotta more props than they gets
-
Do Today, Luv Of My Life, So Compton.
these tracks alone put this above Trauma for me. the rest grows like crazy, but there's just a little too much variety for it to be regarded as highly as Quik's best LPs. still, loads of classic material and best album in a real long time for me.
-
I'm not too judgemental. Do Today, and Fire & Brimestone are average tracks, but still good, inventive, fresh etc. They just don't have that high replay value you'd expect from a Quik album. I'm glad I bought it for the tracks, andp erhaps they will grow on me, or be a gem in years to come when I go back to listen to it
Hydromatic sounds corny, and the "HIIIIIIII-Dromatic" loop in the backround is annoying as hell

They're all good but nothing special.
- G-Funk "Pacific Coast Remix" > "So Compton" (horrible hook, is that a hook?)
- Summertime vibe "Jet Set" > "Do Today"
And anyway "Till Jesus Comes", "Get Up", "Quikstrumental", shit almost every track is better than BOD (I like it but it can't compete)

It's funny because I feel the exact opposite. Everything on TBOD shits on Trauma, except for "Til' Jesus Comes" which I'd say is one of Quik's best songs ever.

same. for a start that track with Ludacris has a really awkward beat compared to the OG version. the only shit i'm really digging on Trauma is Fandango, Get Down & California. The rest is still very dope, but BOD has quite a bit of stuff that trumps it. More of what i'd call the classic Quik sound.

Trauma is way better than Book of David...On Book of David it sounds like a rip-off of Quik when he was working with Rob Bacon. I still don't like it except for "So Compton" and the "Quik's Groove" and maybe "Flow for Sale".
Oh and I'm also aware that this thread is old, I just couldn't bear seeing Matty say this album is better than Trauma when I looked through my old posts.
-
Real Women,Luv Of My Life,Killer Dope,Boogie to You Conk Out,Flow For Sale,Nobody,So Compton,Time Stands Still,Do Today,Babylon and The End / Quiks Groove ..All These is very good tracks..! Quik never dissapoint.
of course Poppin', Hydromatic and Across The Map are WACK!!
Fire and Brimstone and Ghetto Rendezvous is just regular !!
album 8,5/10

wow this album already dropped two years ago, what the fuck :o

yeah trauma was way better than this.
-
nope, BOD is still the much better album. purely my feeling about it, the more layered instrumentation is a big part of it, trauma is too barebones. the divided opinion shows how differently peope hear quik's music though. someone made a thread recently trying to pick out a top 3/rank them all. trauma seemed to be near the bottom for quite a few people, with BOD coming close to the top 3 in some cases. but its all good, all great albums 8)
-
Solid ass music. Much better ham Under The Influence and Trauma. Although those albums had strong songs, this album is just too damn consistent.
Hope Quik never stops making music. A true living genius.

This album is Quik's best one, in my opinion. Far better than Trauma, and just as good as Rhythmalism.
2 years later and I'm happy to report that So Compton, Flow For Sale, Boogie Till You Conk Out, Do Today, and Luv of My Life are all in my top 25 most played on iTunes. This shit beat out Tupac songs that I've listened to hundreds of times. So Compton is my most played track in history.
So fuck the haters, Book of David is my favorite Quik album - probably my favorite album ever, besides All Eyez On Me.

Yeah the way Nobody segues into Boogie and then all the way to So Compton is so good, really well put together.
I'm just waiting for the summer to really hit before I play this album again.

No doubt. Gotta agree with this. Quik needs to keep making it til he cant anymore.

This album sucked. Not horrible like Blaqkout but still not good. The thing is, Quik has been highly regarded as extremely underrated as a producer. But IMO he's also underrated as a lyricist. He's not an mc but dude was always sharp, witty, and kinda funny with his words. This album he just nosedove into a sea of wackass lyrics. Never got into this album.

Wow even despite Kurupt BlaQKout was a great summertime album. Easily a 3.5/5 for me.

Nah man...Fuck Yall, Hey Playa, Blaqkout, Ohhhh, and The Appeal are all dope cuts off of Blaqkout. There's some wack tracks on there, sure, but it also has some classics. Quik was hit and miss on this album, but when he hit, the shit was bomb.

agreed on blaqkout. take the best tracks from that with some of the BOD material and you have quik breaking into new ground, as good as ever.

That's the truth. Quik in recent years has been experimenting. Sometimes the experiments fail. But other times they result in the best music of his career. The recent leaks - What Would the World Be Like and Life Jacket - are both top notch Quik tracks. Quik is not declining with time. If he released an album full of tracks like Life Jacket, it would be the best of his career.
-
book of david was forgettable and mediocre. only had a couple tracks worth remembering. he needed a dope guitar player and some other session musicians. album doesnt sound lush like his old shit.

doesn't sound luscious? luv of my life and so compton are up there with the classic rhythmalism era grooves, even if rob bacon brought better guitar.

i really wish he could do a full update on the smooth rhythmalism sound, could make for an exceptional album. that sound has basically cropped up already, it's amazing, but not as one full package. and he has the ability to do that anytime, he's even mentioned it. dunno if you saw the video but he's working at some new studio now and getting things popping, with g-one too. those two and rob bacon are the dream team.
-
I really like Blaqkout. From the beginning to the end. My favorite from Quik. Don't know or care if it's progressive/experimental/whatever I just like listening to it.
-
Agree with others who said mix Book of David best songs with Blaqkout and you got a classic.
-
I just revisited Blaqkout recently and I still really enjoy it. "Book of David" was cool but it never quite resonated with me like most of the other Quik albums.

Which video are you talking about? Don't think I've seen it. Great news though.
Anybody who says Book of David sounds less sonically rich than Quik's previous albums needs to get their ears checked! Like Quik said in the Sunset interview, the tracks on the Book of David are pure like diamonds - other producers are making Cubic Zirconia.

For the past two weeks, I've been listening to this album in loud volume...
When this album was released i gave this a 7/10...today for me..this shit is 9.7/10
This album is almost perfect.. only thing wrong is Across The Map.
Poppin' is too funky..remind me some Beastie Boys shiiit..
Fire and Brimstone too Futuristic-Trip-Hop-Eletro shit...Ghetto Rendezvous..Quik lyrics goin nuts.
Flow For Sale is fresh..Hydromatic piano is :o
Boogie Till You Conk Out beat is very complex
Time Stands Still, it's like a Quik version of Joe - All The Things..
Nobody is a classic funk record...
The High Points in this:
Do Today...it's like 80's music..timeless
Luv of My Life...when this shit dropped on Power 106...My Reaction: Quik is Back Motherf****s
So Compton (This is so good that not even need a Quik verse)
Killer Dope: "And I play my own piano, don’t call y’all for no sessions"
Real Women: Quik and Jon B... 8) THIS FUCKIN SHIT SHOULD'VE BEEN BILLBOARD TOP 10
The End: :firedevil: This beat is like Who? Dr.Dre ?? Who?
Shit was Dope..
DJ Quik music it's like wine..better with time!!

Haha, REAL TALK HOMIE. My opinion of The Book of David was very high when the album released and it continues to rise. Listening to Book of David and Midnight Life just makes me wish Quik released more music.
-
i had never noticed "So Compton" was actually a KK's solo cut.
Trauma is to me better than Book of David. Too much tunes i dislike ("Luv of my Life", "Rendez-Vous", "Boogie", "Babylon","Time Stands Still") Plus, i always found Quik's Groove boring (i'll be banned from this forum, i know) . The only one i enjoy is the one from his House of Blues album. Whereas i enjoy listening to Trauma from start to finish.
-
I really like Blaqkout. From the beginning to the end. My favorite from Quik. Don't know or care if it's progressive/experimental/whatever I just like listening to it.
The downfall of blackout is kururt. His verses are lazy and complete trash.

Nah not at all. Fans are just too jaded to enjoy him

which is actually Quik's Groove 1. But dont get me wrong, i actually like Quik's Groove III and Quik's Groove VII, not the Jodeci one but the one off his Best Of compilation. Also, the "Reprise" off Rhythm-al-ism is great.
And i'm currently listening to that "DubCNN.com Presents: DJ Quik – Quik’s Grooves Compilation" and i'm really enjoying those grooves :P. Actually, the ones i dont like are his latest (9 off "Midnight Life" and 8 off "Book of David).

Man the one off of book of David is so good tho man did you listen to the whole thing ? I know people's opinions differ but IMO that ones super dope
-
yeah i'm not nuts about Quik's Groove 8. too repetitive :-\
-
I'm really glad we got the Boogie Til You Conk Out remix on the mixtape because its leaps and bounds ahead of the album version.
i just listened to "The Audio Biography of David" (link (http://www.dubcnn.com/mixtapes/djquik-theaudiobiographyofdavid/)) yesterday, i can't believe i had never heard the remix of "boogie till you conk out", which i'm sure might be the OG version of the song because the voices flow so well with the music. i always hated the album version cos it's flat. That mixtape version is so funky-boogie. And even though the music on the lp version is complex and futuristic, Quik should have recorded new vocals over it.
-
Yeah, I prefer the remix on the mixtape, way too funky!
-
this album aged so well
possibly a classic and definitely best album of 2011

yeah I was playing some joints off this just last week because of the weather and was thinking about how well it aged

Quik's best solo record to date?
The hidden track at the end is pure bliss.
Can't forget the remake of Street Level Entrance - I loved this album and it still gets constant play to this day.

Sorry - that was a poorly worded comment by me.
I meant to say this album is better than Midnite Life. Nothing touches his catalogue from the 90's or 00's.

Yeah I tend to break out this album at this time of year when the the summer hits, it suits it so well. There's that 4 or 5 track flow about two thirds into the album that just hits so nicely. It's definitely better than The Midnight Life for sure.
Funny how the opening track had the oddest sounding drum loop when you hear it at first but eventually your head and ears figure it out. I really wish the mini track after the reprise of 'Street Level Entrance' was a fully fleshed out track as well because it's far too short for my liking.
