out of the trilogy id probably pick 2. I think the movie gets really intense when you see how pacino went from a innocent loving guy, to a stone cold killer.

lol... nah, my favorite gangsta movie of all time in the Godfather. Part I, to me it's just the shit. There is no movie that tops it. Marlon Brando fucks that movie up, and any movie in which Marlon Brando and Al Pacino are co-existing as father and son, I mean it's unfuckwitable. Think about it, Brando and Pacino, no wonder it's one of the few gangsta movies to be considered a classic in every way. Godfather II just adds to the trilogy, and part III, well Vito had two great sons in Michael and Sonny, part III is the Fredo of the series. But it's all good, because I know many Italian actors want in on part IV, and with Andy Garcia, you have a local Godfather if they ever decide on a part IV. I personally wouldn't do it, but hey, it makes money. Anyways, part I&II make for the greatest gangsta movies ever, and their is no way that can be disputed.

i dunno i just dont think scarface is as believeable, like no offense, but race plays a huge part, and i dont think this cuban drug dealer wouldve made such a huge name for himself in the US, be paying people off, because most cops are white, and lets face it racism is abundant, and i dont think they would take bribes or payoffs from this guy.

The 1930s Scarface is based on the era of the 20s and 30s. During the prohibition and so on, it is not based on Al Capone. It wasnt until the late 50s,60s and 80s where movies based on Al capone came out. Just like the original scarface, the latest scarface is just based on an era of crime. Thats the only thing those two movies have in common really, that is based on an era of crime. All the credit for Scarface should be given to Oliver stone who wrote those lines and Pacino who said them

Ive read some books aswell and what said was that the Scarface movie from the 30's is based on al capones life, its far from a biography and very far from al capones real life, but its based and influenced by him... al capone was known as Tony "Scarface" Capone, wich was one of his "nicknames",
however.. this has very little with the movie itself to do :P

After there is a list of dope ass gangster movies such as goodfellas, casino, donnie brasco, once upon a time in america, king of new york, deep cover, etc., but they don't come close to the masterpieces that Godfather I&II and Scarface are. As far as the goodfellas vs. scarface goes; goodfellas was a real good movie. It definitely was a lot more believable and showed a real close up look inside the mob, but I don't know. For some reason I just don't see it up there with scarface. Now I think about it goodfellas would probably make number three on my list.
