Title: "Detox" News
Post by: Murrow on January 23, 2002, 12:30:16 PM
I found some news in the latest issue of Entertainment magazine, they interviewed Dr. Dre, and talked about "Detox."  Dre said he hasn't begun recording, and will start at the end of February.  Bilal, Jay-Z, Busta Rhymes and Eminem are some people to be on it.  The article said the album will be due at the end of this year.  Seeing Dre hasn't even begun the "Detox" sessions, I don't see this dropping this year at all.  Don't frown at some of those guests either, you know shit will end up totally different.  Peep the article...

His Chronic days a blunted memory, the rapper-producer is doing Detox

He's given us the weed smokers manifesto The Chronic and produced Snoop Dogg's hedonist anthem "Gin & Juice."  Now Dr. Dre wants to take us to Detox (the title of his next album, out late this year).  "I just want to, like, come down a little bit," says Dre, with a laugh.  "It's still in the blueprint stages, but I'm thinking of going just a little more positive.  I want to be a lot more humble in a sarcastic way, if that makes any sense."  Though Dre won't formally enter the studio until the tail end of February, he's already lining up guests, among them Bilal, Jay-Z, Busta Rhymes, and Eminem.  Will his rumored anti-bin Laden track appear on Detox?  "I kinda backed off from that," says Dre.  "We had started [recording] it, but we were saying some pretty radical shit.  I didn't know if people were ready for it."  Will they ever be?  "I don't know.  We should have this interview again in two months."

Damn, I thought he & Hitt had already started recording for it, nut I guess I read wrong, probably just writing for it. Tight guests though, even though he didn't mention the regulars, XZ, Snoop, Hitt, etc. Tight news anywayz cuz.

Dre is constantly recording, so just because he's specifically recording for detox beginning in feb, doesn't mean he doesn't have stuff done for it yet.  He probably has a couple beats in the can he's feeling for the album, so people weren't really lying when they said he's already started.  Plus he said it's in the blueprints, which is a start, he just hasn't started the final recordings.

True, cuz if you think about it, recording is one of the final steps.

I'm sure Dre didn't share all his thoughts on what he is gonna do for the album.  This will be a long recording proccess and I know Dre will get ideas along the way and stuff will come out different.  I think in the past months, maybe Dre was just formulating his new "Detox" sound so they will be ready to be recorded over when it comes time.  I'm sure we will see Snoop, Nate Dogg, Knoc-Turn'al etc on this album along with some new artists when Dre feels his album is finished.  In the Formula interview, Bilal said he already agreed to work on "Detox."

Same here. But i'm sure Dre will bring the BEST out in everyone who appears on this LP like he has done in the past with numerous artists.

Rakim;
Pharoah Monche;
Warren G;
The D.O.C.;
Ice Cube;
MC Ren;
Eazy Sample;
Devin Tha Dude;
Kokane;
Plug One from De La Soul

whoooo that would rock.

Oh, and 1 interesting note... before Mellowman left, I had a few long conversations with him about how I felt that Dre hadn't done everything in music yet, because he hadn't came through positive like common de la soul, the roots, etc. have.  Now dre's saying he's trying to make the music more positive.  hmmmmmmmmmm.

I think the title "Detox" is perfect, seeing what Dre is saying about, "going a little more positive" for his final album.  He'll come full circle with this one from his days of "The Chronic."

I'd have Cube, Ren, The D.O.C., Snoop, RBX, Warren G, Nate Dogg, Rage, Kurupt, Eminem, Xzibit, Devin, Kokane, Truth Hurts, Bilal, Common and Knoc-Turn'al all mashing on Dre beats.

"-- Dr. Dre's fourth album, Detox, is expected to be released sometime this year, according to a spokesperson for the artist who is nominated for this year's producer of the year Grammy.

When promoting his big screen comedy The Wash, Dr. Dre talked about his excitement about the album in the works. "I'm always trying to reinvent myself and do new things. My next album I really feel strong about. I really feel strong about it. I've started on it. I'm in the blueprint stage of it. I'm going to have a lot more time to work on this record than I've had before, and I feel like I've already got my first single for that record. I have probably about five tracks for it that I'm really feeling," he said. "They're really different. I know this is probably going to be my best record. It's gonna be different. It's going to be a breath of fresh air, and I'm not going to stop until I feel like it is that way."

I don't think we have to worry for a single second about the "usual suspects" like Snoop, Em & Xzibit not bein' on the album. Plus, Busta 'n Knoc are kinda obvious choices, 'cause Dre's done those collabos with 'em. Having an N.W.A. track on the album would be supa sweet, but since this is supposed to be more positive, the "fuck tha police" type shit doesn't really fit in the picture. But anything can happen, right?

if u ask me this album is gonna be tha bomb whoever the guset appearances come by....though i would like to see more snoop (prob obvious)....if cube gets the time would anyone like to see him?? and hows about a lil' bit of warren g 4 a verse or a hook or something? i wouldn't mind a lil' more ms. roq neither.....ren....and even though i don't see it possible kurupt would go on there nicely.....nate.....x-zibit gotta go on at least one...i don't really wanna see jay-z....i fuckin hate jay-z really.....and it wouldn't botha me eminem didn't show up.....though he is likely 2

but....if the album is supposed to be a more possitive approach.....then most of these artists wouldn't fit into the picture.....would they??

peep this from wckillz.com

On Friday night on local Los Angeles radio station, Power 106 FM, DJ Quik was a special guest on the Felly Fel show. Quik spoke on his new album, "Safe & Sound 2", and played some snippets also. A question about Dr. Dre came up during the conversation, and Quik said "I don't know if I can work with Dre anymore. He takes way too long to put a track out. That's his problem..he's his own worst enemy because he's such a perfectionist".

.... i think its about time somebody says this... this fool takes too damn long to put shit out... everybody be starvin on his label in 5 years he has put out a 4 projects... i aint countin the wash... at this pace, detox isnt coming out till 2005

then you got hitman, mel mans compilation, rakim, the truth, another eminem....  i wonder how long yall think it will take for all of these to come out....aint tryna be dissapointed like  that king tee ish

this might sound really weird, but since the guy didn't mention it in his first post .. plus what they have been doing lately have'nt been huge hits .. Did anyone every assume that Dre might NOT have snoop on his next album .. ??? or only have him for like 1 or 2 tracks ???
