I'm not positive, but i believe this cd gets alot of hate
i'm 8 tracks through it, and the first 7 are all CLASSIC material, not really feeling 8 though
if shit cont's like this, this gonna be my fav. quik cd up 2 it
look forward 2 a in-depth thread on quik's discography coming soon ;D
-
Yeah alot of people do not like the album but it is dope to me. A different sounding album from the rest of this catalogue but that album definitely has some hits on it.
-
I love "Get Loaded" and "One on 1".. Those track's are incredible..
-
its def a good album......but like somebody said it has a different sound
-

i'm noticing a heavy g-funk sound on it :-\

Yeah a little bit. It was a darker album than alot of the other albums. Definitely I am sure Mausberg's death has alot to do with that. But it just was Quik experimenting with a new sound and for alot of people they were like if it ain't broke don't fix it so it rubbed alot of die hard Quik fans the wrong way.
-
yea i think this may my fav quik album 2 date (gotta do trauma still)...im done 14/15 songs, and only songs i ain't feelin (alot 2) are gina statuatorre, 1 on one, and sex crymee...and none of the 3 are really bad

i must be def, because i'm seeing alot of dance records type of shit...2 me, this album is on some str8 west shit...
trouble is the shit, come 2nyte is pure west sound, put it on me - dre & quik = nuff said,
tha proem is dark, but dope (kweli kills it), murda 1 case is also dark, but sick,
ev'ryday is a nice record, get loaded is a classic quik & amg collabo,
50 ways - quik spitting some real shit, get tha money is dope, suga free is sick and comedic as hell on it :D
birds & da beez is fire, and oh well got a wierd sounding beat, but it works for quik perfectly IMO
my fav quik album NOT counting trauma yet
-
True. It does have alot of uptempo cuts on it. I don't know where I would rank this album but it is good.

will u can figure that out when my quik discography thread comes, most likely sometime 2moro ;D

Damn, I just let the disc play until "Out" finally comes on and that shit is crazy. No words or anything just good music. It has a cinematic type of feel to it. I am expecting Detox to sound similar to this in terms of the live music and instrumentation. "Qiuk's Groove 6" is incredible as well :)

i'd have no complains if detox comes out sounding like this
-
It's an average CD for me, nothing really that special.
-
it's a good album for sure, but far from his best for me.
The sound is a bit different, but it doesn't have a constant vibe (like that Dre cut)
But it's a great cd tho
-
it's a dope record but inconsistent.
-
It is by far Quik's worst album... it's not a horrible, shitty album, but compared to all his other releases, it's ass :P
Put It On Me is one of the most disapointing songs ever, and the original 50 Ways shits all over the released version... The original is actually one of my favourite Quik songs..
-
not close to my favourite quik album but still a solid cut, 1 on one and sex crymee are my favourite tracks as they are very different sounding, kinda like tht
the album is nowhere near the level of rhythm al ism or safe and sound but
like someone said put it on me is one of the most dissapointing tracks of all time, dre and quik should hav made a masterpiece
-
Easily Quiks worst album and effort to date....It's boring, has no replay value, poorly mastered, production is subpar, guest apperances are easily forgettable and an overall dissapointment....There are like maybe 3 traccs off the album that are decent...I forget I even own this frisbee
-
this cd is fuckin dope! Fav Song is "Oh well"
-
I damn near forget about this album, to be honest. I listened to it a lot when it dropped, but I guess it doesn't stand out to where I ever think about playin it now. It definitely wasn't trash...but I'd say it's one of his worst two records. I would probably give it a 7.5/10, which is better than many artist's best albums...but for Quik being the best rapper + producer that the West has probably ever seen, it just wasn't hittin like that.
I think the main problem is that there weren't many standout tracks that really catch you. Trouble was dope, but even that song was never a 100% certified classic to me. Most of his albums have 1-2 singles that are automatic classics, then 2-3 album cuts that shit on everything out in rap....such as "Thinkin bout you" from Rhythmalism. This album had many solid songs, and only 1-2 I would skip....but it just wasn't as memorable as the rest.
And I just realized it's been out for over five years now...I think it dropped June 4, 2002.

Yeah...I remember coppin' it at the "Discount Price Land" when it was still open.
Matter of fact, I'm gonna listen to it right now.

Yeah I would agree with that. When you compare it to the rest of Quik's catalouge there are not alot of classics or dope cuts. Put It On Me was cool but like someone said earlier, I expected alot out of the collabo and it ended up just being more of a Dre song with Quik on it. But basically it was a solid album, nothing really sticks out about it on a classic or bad tip when I listen to it. I take alot into consideration Mausberg death maybe being the reason why it seems Quik did not drop that classic album. Kind of like when people say Tha Doggfather is weak when Snoop was going through all that with the murder case. People deal with death and life issues differently and I'm sure Quik was not in the same mindstate musically for UTI as he was for his other albums.
-
damn y'all is trippin, this is a dope album

It's a dope album, just not my favorite.

why is tht, cant think of any skippable tracks other thn maybe 2
-
Dope ass album, but definitely not my favorite from Quik. I'ts still consistent all the way through, but it doesn't stand in the same league as Rhythm-al-ism, Safe and Sound, or Balance and Options IMO. It's interesting to see your perspective on Quik's shit Lunatic, because you're just listening to all of them for the first time now. Most of us have been listening to them when they dropped, and they've grown on us over the years, and anticipation before the record dropped may have affected the way we think about them. For you, it's a fresh perspective. But yeah, "Get Loaded" is my favorite track on that CD, I bump that regularly still.

yeah, what weren't you feeling about B&O? I didn't like those interludes, but that's easily skippable.

lol damn..i only bump 7 songs...not that there's alot of bad 1s, just alot of "meh" 1s :-\
Eddie: yea, i think that anticipation, and everything else that goes on before the record comes out helps form opinions...that's why i like doing this, i'm listening 2 them all at the same time (relatively) so nothing changes..i go in2 each record with the same feeling and expectations, and that's probably why my opinion is much different than everyone else's...
i loved rhythm-al-ism, safe & sound, but dis-liked balance and options (like i said not alot of bad songs, just alot of avg 1s 2 me...kind of boring) and LOVED under tha influence

Yep. Remember when they used to play that on the radio, and Quik's part where he shouts out Suga Free's number wasn't edited out? Funny how it's edited on the album, and not when it was being played on the radio.

I'm not a huge Quik fan, but I liked the album. If the original 50 Ways made the cut, the album would have been one of my all time favorites.

Yeah, the og 50 Ways is way better IMO.
I don't think that's Paul Simon on the hook though. Cus the original song he says 50 ways to leave you lover.

In essence, Quik pretty much took Paul Simons hook and flipped it for his song. That's why it wasn't cleared and he had to redo it. But yeah, it wasn't Paul Simon singing.

He's an ok producer imo, and kinda underrated as a lyricist, but I'm just not a huge fan. That funk shit got corny to me YEARS ago. Differenet strokes for different coasts I guess.
-
LMAO....damn, it's bad that Quik doesn't get that respect he deserves, especially outside the West, where they all just think we like Quik because he's from here, which is DEFINITELY not the case.......
I'd say Dre is the best producer overall, because of his longevity, and how he's changed the game....but as far as being a musical genius, using pure instrumentation and musicianship, Quik is BY FAR the best producer rap has ever seen. No one else is touchin him, not Dre, Battlecat, Warren, Pharrell, or anybody else. I see that THE dutch master says the funk got corny a few years ago...but Quik has never been one to drop the cookie cutter g-funk beats like a lot of producers did in the 90's, just following Dre's formula. Quik used Dre's formula to an extent for three albums, but changed it up and took things to a completely different level on Rhythmalism, which is the best album rap has EVER seen, musically speaking. That album wasn't even a lot of "funk", it was more on Jazz, soul, fusion, and a bit of rock than straight funk.

i loved Quik's verses, but dre came weak i thought.. whoever wrote those lyrics couldve tried harder to match quik's lyrics

Put it on me was definitely a bust of a song, even though it was still pretty dope. It is nowhere near a classic, even with those classic names on it. As said before, it was basically a Dre song featuring Quik.
Beat was just a typical Dre beat that lacked fire, and sounded more like an album cut. Dre had produced about 10-15 BETTER beats during 2000 and 2002 than this one....such as the two he did for Eve, Family Affair, Lookin at you, The Wash, and some others. It wasn't a bad song at all, but we just expected a whole lot more.
And to be real, I don't even "count it" as a song or single from this album, because it was released 9 months earlier on the Training Day soundtrack.
-
it's classiq!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
