Title: Michael Jackson Leaves Sony Music
Post by: Trauma-san on June 17, 2002, 07:39:17 AM
Yeah, Mike left Sony, after 25 years with them.  He's in London, and Saturday there was some big fan event thing they threw for him, with like 2 hours of music... So, at the end, he gets on stage, and gives a speech, he said that he doesn't like to talk much, but that "It's true I have left Sony,.....A record company leaves you no choice when they virtually give up on promoting your album. But I've always said that great art never dies and this isn't the end of Michael Jackson. Sony tried to destroy Invincible because they couldn't stand the idea that the artist had out-thought the company....I'm only going to do one more album for them - a box set with two new songs. I can give them any old songs, he said, to laughter and rapturous applause. I'm a free agent now, but I walk away with 50% of Sony Publishing. They're very angry with me."

Then, he said some crap about Tommy Motolla, president of Sony Music, "Tommy is the Devil... he needs to be terminated"... he said that when Mariah Carey was having her problems with Sony, something about he remembers her coming to him and crying on his shoulder about how Tommy treated everybody (or something) and Mike had to 'hold her in my arms"... and that Mariah said Tommy put phone taps on her phones, lol.  Rumour is he's gonna release his next album on a label started by Muhammad Al Fayed, his rich friend that owns Harrod's.  It sounds like Mike was pissed at the party, i'm tryna find a transcript... but here's a picture, LOL...

Why didn't yall tell me the stories then?  And Nino, can you mail me like the socks you were wearing or somethin, since they were so close to him? LOL  J/K

I guess this is about what he said at the beginning of his party saturday.

"Thankyou, the support right now means a lot to me. I don't take it for granted, I'd like to thank everyone in this room for their support. I don't like to talk that much. Many of my greatest influences, Jackie Wilson, James Brown and Fred Estaire have had their artistry comprimised because of major labels. I have made Sony billions in revenue over the years. I own half of Sony Publishing. I'm talking half of Sony Publishing with me when I leave and they are very angry with me. So they are trying to destroy my album but they didn't think I'd out-think them. I'm a great believer in true artistry being fully appreciated later on.
And Tommy Mottola is the devil. He is evil. I probably shouldn't tell you this, infact, can you people with video cameras turn them off a second... over there... and you... oh, don't bother, record it if you want. Mariah Carey came to me and she was crying in my arms, honestly, because of what this man has done to her. He's tabbed her phones, he's stalked her. He is evil and we won't stop until his way of doing business is terminated.
I only have one album left with Sony. And it's only a box set. It has two new songs, but let me tell you something, I record about 120 songs for every album, really, so I can choose any two songs I like, they were recorded years ago. Once that's finished I will be a free agent."

By 'destroying' his album, he's talking about how they only released 1 single, only made 1 video, haven't updated his website in a year, etc. Typical Warren G stuff, yall know.

Well, I dunno about bein' sued.. Tommy Motolla can't be sued over the 'phone taps', because it probably didn't even happen, besides, he used to be married to Mariah Carey so who knows what went on between them two.

Mike could be sued maybe for saying that, but Sony's also been quoted as saying Mike owes them 200 million dollars... which he's denied over the past week, so I guess he could sue them back for that.  It's just gonna be a big fight, LOL.

I'd say it's probably dead.  They might release another video, but I seriously doubt it.  You'll probably have to wait another 3 years or so for an album.
