my homie and i was talking about this the otherday and i wondered what yall thought...i dont see that theres a difference between what drakes doing now and the shit nelly did early 2000s but it was acceptable then becasue thats when half yall was getting your cherries popped lol i know some of yall wore grills and bandaids and all that shit some of yall probably got your first pairs of AF1s of the strength of that nelly song.
i think the hate for drake is more or less a reflection of how the older hip hop heads feel about the younger emo generation. alot of that music is nauseatingly soft, i cant sit through the whole "im proud of you" song shits just to sappy even for an r and b fan like me but i gotta give props where props is due...them dudes are starting a whole new soundcoming from toronto and now american producers are emulating it. (not sure if its good or bad)
the gothic chords over filtered drums is the signature toronto sound and the US hip hop scene is outsourcing like a motherfucker to get it, what im asking yall is how is the shit drakes doing different then what nelly or even a rapper like mase did? and them dudes went multi plat i know some of yall drake haters have them albums in your collection.

lifestyles aside I relate very heavily to most of what Drake is saying. Whether you like the guy's music or not, I wish you'd admit he's more in touch with what goes on in most outer city male's heads in this decade/century.
Take Care is a beautiful album. We don't get that in hip hop usually. hip hop always found its roots in bass, in at least a measurable amount of grit and mean-mugged struggle. Soul, funk, ruggedness. Take Care? This album could care less. Much like his original mentor, Phonte of Little Brother, Drake is a guy who can flip the rap/R&B switch near-perfectly, and isn't afraid to tell us what's on his mind even at the expense of being taken seriously.
Sure he's corny, but he's also an excellent songwriter, and he owns his quirks, which for my money is all I ask for from a pop artist. Especially if you're going to make something as shiny and attractive to the ears as Take Care.

I liked a few Nelly songs like RIde WIt Me and Luvin Me, but didn't really feel him like that. Drake...same thing. I can't play a full album but can bump a song here and there. Nelly and Drake are nothing at all alike, but I will say Drake probably makes a better a quality of music, he just isn't my thing

See I was one of those people that didn't like Nelly when country grammar dropped back in 2000...thought he was too pop. But that cd did bang when we would party and he did have a few good joints for what they were. By today's standards those songs were not soft at all. And at least he could come up with hooks, make catchy songs, and his in house production team gave him a unique sound.

Here in TORONTO we don't really RATE Drake. He is what he is for the teenagers and girls. We support him for what it is. There is a lot of musical talent coming out of CANADA unfortunately it's not too much rap. Besides Kardinal Official and a hand full of others. Our underground rap scene thrives with a lot of good freestylers and battle rappers...
Dancehall/Reggae is T-Dots main genre in the streets here.
