So whats this show all about??

In my opinion - and many people share my opinion - this is the best series on television. Each season focusses on a different element of what goes on in Baltimore, MD. What makes this show so good/interesting is that it shows you how BOTH sides work: the law enforcement AND the 'criminals', unlike most series who just show one side of the picture.
Also, The Wire is known for its realism. It's shot on location in Baltimore (e.g.: they film in the real Baltimore projects) and the writers on the show live/have lived or work/have worked there (cops, journalists, writers, ...).
Quality TV, that's what it boils down to.

yup the best series on tv by far. got all 3 seasons on dvd. waiting for 4. You have to be patient to watch this though. Its not all action like The Shield or something, but its not unrealistic like the shield either. I like how they explore b oth perspectives from the criminals and the cops. Season 1 talked about the drug trade in the proejcts. Season 2 talked about the traffickin through the harbors (human and drugs). Season 3 went back into the streets. Season 4 tied Season 2 back into the equation and explored the flow of the product from the guys up top, to the dealers in the streets, and also explored the failure of the education system. but the thing with this, is that you have to watch all the entire season and series in order. You cant just watch random episodes at a time. And recently I remember in season 4 there was one quote made by someone, that tied back to a conversation in season 1, so you really have to be up on everything in the show.

What exactly is different about television as a whole since Sopranos came and went? How exactly has it changed? I hate claims like that. Survivor did ten times more to change TV than Sopranos ever will but it's not better than Sopranos. Oz did more for graphic television than Sopranos but it isn't better either. The Wire isn't changing TV. The Wire is setting a bar for TV to reach. A bar that Sopranos falls short of reaching.

OZ was the shit.
IMO, Sopranos was a great show. But, a show like The Wire really captures a person from the get go. There's so much diversity to it. It rarely deals with the same shit more than once.
I got into the Wire during Season 4. After watching Season 4 and not knowing what's really going on, I copped all the prior seasons. Watched them in like a month and I've been hooked ever since.

the way i see it . prop joe fucked up. he wanted to share shit. when cheese went on hungry mans territory and prop joe told cheese to step off, you saw how pissed cheese was on that shit. prop joe was soft. marlo was harder. i think marlo is an awsome character with alot of balls to do what he has been doing. taking out avon's whole camp then takin out prop joe to take the whole connect and puttin the price up on the brick. but nothin good lasts for ever he will probably fall sooner than later. as for omar... fuck that gay son of a bitch. dude likes to take it up his ass. dude has been fuckin pissing me off since season one.

Whats it matter if he's gay? The only people that should matter to are heterosexual females that are attracted to him and have the ability to join te fictional world of the Wire. I'm not a girl, I'm not attracted to him, and I can't warp into the show. So it doesn't bother me.

Go to your local city's police news pages and see how many criminals have actually jumped 5-7 story falls while trying to escape and not only survived but managed to get away. It's very easily done when there is no other way out.

Actually...everythings straight forward. I think i'll watch season 1 after season 5.
Im not one of those people who need to know the answers to every question..just the important ones. And the important questions are answered in season 5. What else do i need to know?
Thats what i love about the wire...even if you havnt watched any of the other seasons...you dont need to to enjoy season 5. I cant say the same about other shows around (aka lost, prison break..etc, bullshit shows)

Where did Omar's limp go? Worsrt scene in TV history. They may as well have had Javier Bardem walk in to the store ask Omar to flip a coin and then kill him. Season 5 turned the wire from a great artistic masterpiece into a Jerry Bruckheimer Will Smith movie. I'm now waiting for the final scene of the series to be the gangs taking over the city and One Man has to stop it. Fade in Will Smith and end credits.

Season 5 is dissapointing for me ... the show focus too much on this media thing and Carchetti shit and not enough on the streets ... in previous seasons, Simon found a good balance between the theme of the season and the streets storilyne but this season it doesn't work well imo .. I'm not surprised by the way Omar was killed though .. this is what the Wire is about, a show which approach the reality as much as possible , NO WAY you would expect an epic ending for him... I don't understand why y'all think it's a very wack scene .. nothing great about it but nothing bad ..

WCSoldier, you don't think it's dissappointing to see a little kid take out Omar when he's battled Avon, Stringer, Wee Bey, Brother Mouzone, Marlo, Chris & Snoop and he never died. A little kid who's never really been significant in the show aside from catching a beat down from Michael for jacking Naymond, is the one who pops him? To me that's weak. With the huge build up of Omar calling out Marlo, I expected at least Chris or Snoop to take dude out at one point.
Now I guess Avon is the only one left to take out Marlo...

Of course you can view it from different angles but to me , Kennard killing Omar was just to prove the realistic side of the Wire .. you get shot when and by the people you don't expect at all .. I'm not saying the storyline is amazing , it's ok to me ... the weakest scene was when Omar jumped from the building without taking a bullet from Chris, Snoop and Mike who are good to great gun shooters .. that was on some Jack Bauer shit :-X... I'm curious to see how the Marlo/Avon/Greeks situation gonna finished ... Snoop gonna be killed , Chris is done with the DNA shit .. I suppose he'd take all the murders for him ala Wee Bey and Marlo would end up in jail but is very unlikely that the scenario repeats itself

Realism was thrown out the window in season 3 when they had an entire section of the city be drug-legal and only one section of the cops knew about it. What about a gun fight that leads to a guy jumping out a window? A fake serial killer running aroubnd the city? What about a guy on crutches suddenly no longer lipining when he walks in a store?
Worst scene ever. Worst episode ever. Season 5 does not exist in my mind.
P.S. The newsroom is the best part of the season except for the fake story and the crooked reporter.

just watched episode 9. my thoughts.
that whole raide on the supply seemed too eazy and sloppy. i mean Monk, Cheese just drive around dirty with 20 kilos after the supply? i am sure in reality they would have a more complex method. and why would Marlo even check in at the supply? it seems that only Chris will do time and because of the illegal wire tap on Marlows phone the whole case will fall. also Gregs is a bitch she snitched on Mcnulty. Michael is a bitch for just leaving his bro and Dooky by themselves. he should have just packed up everything and moved to Mexico or something with the money he had. And i reccon the lawyer will be killed because Marlow will figure out that his number was leaked from his lawyers office. and also Michael will be killed probably.
Personally i didnt really like this season 5. it seemed like they just wanted to end the show allready.

that was a good episode, it actually feels like the season is ending now.. up until now they have been adding more and more to the story.. now they're just wrapping everything up nicely. marlo, chris + the rest will get out of jail, levy will be wacked before freamon can get to him, mcnulty will goto jail and everything will go back to normal

Good final episode .. what I like is David Simon got an end for all characters , not on some stupid Sopranos shit ... still this last season wasn't epic , I guess it ain't simple at all to close a TV show coz of lots of them (which are great) have just an "ok" final season ..
