Title: Spurs - Lakers (round 2)
Post by: akaDRooPY on April 26, 2004, 12:38:43 PM
this is the heavyweight bout. I have gotta say that San Antonio just looks unstoppable right now, their defense is top notch. 15 game win streak - they are just steam rolling over any team that comes their way. I hate to break all of you Laker's fans hearts. But San Antonio will regain the title again.

Spurs over Lakers 4-1

LOL, Lakers will have homecourt advantage over the Spurs....and Lakers match up better with the Spurs than they do with the Rockets...Lakers 4-2

Lets not forget, Spurs were playing Memphis, an unexperienced team who had just lost 10 of their last 11 games, and was on a 5 game losing streak before the playoffs...It'll be tough, but home-court advantage is gunna be the difference...Lakers in 6.

I don't know about that losing streak memphis was on... but they sure did look good and play their hearts out during this series (the 4-0 doesn't represent that). here are some reasons why I believe the spurs will prevail..

-Spurs defense is just too consistent for the lakers
-on the offensive end, ginobli and parker are just going to  TORCH the lakers, they are just too quick.
-Lakers do not handle the pick and roll well
-Duncan will get his 20, 10, 5
-Defensive specialist Bowen will force Kobe into tough shots (kobe will be lucky to shoot over 40%)

The Lakers have YET to prove anything to me so far this year, Kobe has impressed me and also the last game by Karl Malone. I really just cannot see ANY team beating the Spurs in a 7 game series

That's what everyone said about the Lakers during their championship runs, "I don't think anyone could beat the Lakers in a 7 game series"...look what happened last year....Spurs aren't Invincible... ::)

Wrong...Lakers led the Pacific, putting them in second place in the standings.

I think Shaq is out to prove something.  I watched an interview at halftime on ABC and he seemed real determined.  Shaq will dominate, Lakers win 4-2.

Are you stupid? Yes it does matter...Lakers are number 2, Spurs are number 3...Record doesn't matter, it's what place you're in...Lakers are second place, because they led their division, and Spurs didn't...Lakers have home-court advantage...PeACe

No. 1, the other division winner is seeded No. 2 and the remaining six teams are seeded Nos. 3 - 8 according to their won-lost records. (Home-court advantage in all playoff series is determined by better won-lost record, not higher seeding.)

this shit could easily go either way, if the lakers play up to their potential than lakers 4-0, but they usually don't so i'm going to say lakers in 7

lol i was wonderin why everyone on here kept sayin LA had homecourt. But yah, if homecourt was "huge" when u thought the lakers had it...then its still huge now that the Spurs have it lol.

Droopy, are u a Spurs fan? Just wonderin, cus if youre not...then youre the only non biased opinion in here, and he's pickin the Spurs. I know everyone backs their team, but honestly...Laker fans, this aint to start beef but what have u seen so far that shows u the Lakers would win this series...especially that they would win in anything less then 7 games. Like i said, of course u back your team...but on what youve seen so far, in the last month...cmon. I know anyone can win the series, but to make comments like "Lakers in 6...that seems about right" lol. Only if an upset is "right".

Should be a good series, the winner of this will probably take the title (imo)...but yah, maybe LA can pull the upset...

Home-court does play a huge role...I still think Lakers are taking it. It's just gunna be tougher than it woulda' been...Droopy IS a Spurs fan, so yea, he is biased....I saw the Lakers get 2nd place in the West, with half the team injured for most of the season...That's how I know the Lakers are the best team in the NBA...Spurs have just been on a streak...Lakers were on a streak as well. An 11 game winning streak shortly before the playoffs...I don't think Lakers in 6 would be an upset at all...A sweep, now THAT would be an upset...PeACe

yah, the Lakers are second seeded but the Spurs have the better record...so they get homecourt.

honestly, i only made the point of it being important cus Scitt said the opposite for the Lakers. But i really dont see homecourt being HUGE in the west. any of the final 4 teams in the west, can probably win on eachothers homecourts. homecourt was huge in round 1....but round 2 is so close that it might not even matter.

Spurs in 6... ;)

If Spurs win the first game, all odds are against the Lakers...Seeing as the Spurs open on their home-court, there's more chances of the Lakers losing than if they were playing at Staples Center...Momentum and confidence has a lot to do with it...You gotta open the series with confidence...PeACe

uhhh...wrong. the teams are evenly matched enough to where they can win on eachothers courts easily. homecourt means nothing right now honestly. im guessing each team will win at least one game on the opponents home floor. Especially in the LA/SA series. Minnesota might be a different case since theyre not used to going deep in the playoffs, they still might be somewhat rattled by Sac's homecourt...but LA/SA have faced eachother SO many times in the playoffs over the last few years, that neither team will be slightly intimidated by the others court.

I am a Lakers fan so I might be biased as always, but even at that, I am not too worried about this series.

For one, no matter how hot the Spurs are, we have two Hall of Famers who did NOT come to L.A. to lose, especially not in the 2nd round. Last year, Horry was cold as hell, Kobe was playin thru bein hurt. We got a better team, and even tho Payton ain't doin like he should, Malone is holdin it down, Shaq is playin better than last year, and Kobe is killin everybody. I think the only way the lakers lose is if they beat themselves, by feudin over bullshit and whatever else. Spurs do have homecourt advantage but who cares, they are gonna be in for a shocker game one.

thas cool, and just like 2 yrs ago when the Lakers beat SA (and SA let up in the 4th quarter of games during the series)...the Spurs only lose if they beat themselves. Talent doesnt win championships, teamwork does. Only Laker fans give a shit that Malone and Payton hooked up with the Lakers. Other teams dont look at them as anything other then opposing players. We beat them last year without too much difficulty, beat them 5 yrs ago with a sweep, and i dont see much different this year. The Lakers arent playing that much better then last year to me...in fact, i think their teamwork is worse this year.

the first game starts this afternoon, this is gonna be a great series. I am anxious to see how the lakers can handle the spurs, It seems like the spurs are actually getting respect (even from Phil Jackson!) and most of the sports personalitys are picking the spurs to win in 6 or 7

ROFLMMFATFO@FREE-THROWS!!!! !!LOL!! what the sick hell were duncan and shaq up to?

shaq I understand, he doesnt score much from higher distance and has always sucked from the line.. but duncan, wtf?! he shoots well from higher distance and shit... must be a mental problem.

anyways - spurs won 3 of 4 quarters... their bench is just deeper, they can rely on more players than the lakers. disgusting game by malone and payton btw lol. I wonder how lakers will deal with the match-ups malone/duncan & payton/parker in the next games, they gonna be strugglin ..

Lakers played horrible, and it was still close throughout the game...Spurs won the first quarter, 2nd quarter came out even, 3rd quarter was Lakers, and 4th was Spurs again...Malone and Payton played a disgusting game, Shaq needs to step up (especially from the line)...Kobe is the only one doing it all on his own, and even he didn't have such a wonderful game today...If the Lakers keep playing like this, they're gunna lose the series, but if the players decide to fuckin' step up (especially on offense), we can slaughter ANY FUCKIN' TEAM...PeACe

^^Lakers' offense wasn't even on point against the Rockets...They're just missing simple shots.

but even youd have to admit that the #1 defense in the league...for how many years now, would have something to do with an opposing team missing shots. They werent really even getting GOOD looks at the basket. Malone got nothing goin to the basket, only fade-aways over an outstretched Duncan. Shaq wasnt getting down low enough to dunk the ball like usual, he was having to settle for little half hooks in the key. Plus, the Spurs game plan to front shaq in the post...worked perfectly. The perimeter people were hardly even able to get the ball into him. Kobe played good, and that was it. Payton has no chance against Parker...and Fish couldnt do anything to keep him out of the lane either. So other then Kobe, the Spurs defense pretty much shut everyone else out of the game. And even Kobe, he was making shots in the 3rd...but they were still tough shots...not wide open, so he was still being defended well like everyone else...he just happened to get hot enough to make some tough shots. So u cant pretend like the Spurs defense had nothing to do with the Lakers missing shots...thats crazy.

i wonder if Represent still doesnt think the Spurs are contenders? Maybe if they win another championship...he'll think so  ::)

btw, the Lakers have things they can turn to...they just cant get them all going at the same time. Its either Kobe or Shaq playing good, but never at the same time. Also, they should really consider putting Kobe on Parker. He's murdering Payton and Fisher. Kobe might have a hard time keeping up with him also, but shit...what theyre doing now isnt working, why not try somethin new...maybe his height will bother him somehow. If u remember in the Finals last year, the Spurs actually had Duncan out on Kidd on some occasions in the half court...and it worked out ok.

But anyways, yah...id be really surprised if the Lakers come back in this series. Theyll win one of the next two probably, but if they lose Sunday, id look for a sweep.

Sac is taking the other Series id bet...

You must be the slow one, because if Horry woulda' hit that 3 last year in Game 5 (the one that rimmed in and out), Lakers woulda' won the series...So like I said, the Lakers can win the next 2 at home, just like they did last year...Spurs were lucky last year, this time it's the Lakers turn...And Kobe was sticking Parker in the 3rd quarter, and that's why Parker wasn't doing shit...But then Kobe got into foul trouble, and couldn't guard him in the 4th...Game 3- Sunday, 12:30PM@Staples Center.

Man, you just don't get it..."I Really Want The Lakers To Win, I Really Do." is a complete sentence...How can you even compare that to cutting a sentence in half? I didn't change anything, you moron...You wanted the Lakers to win, and that's what I quoted....The fact that you said you wanted the Lakers to win, then went on to talk mad shit about the Lakers is just one big contradiction, and proves that you're an idiot.

Anyone remember last year, when the Lakers took 2 games at home, after being down 0-2 to the Spurs? Let's just hope that's the case

Yea, And Who Won The Championship Last Year??

Spurs, you idiot.

Uh, Dumbfuck...I was making the point that even though the lakers MIGHT take 2 games at home, it doesnt matter because the Spurs are gonna take the series

Fuck your slow

You must be the slow one, because if Horry woulda' hit that 3 last year in Game 5 (the one that rimmed in and out), Lakers woulda' won the series...So like I said, the Lakers can win the next 2 at home, just like they did last year...Spurs were lucky last year, this time it's the Lakers turn...And Kobe was sticking Parker in the 3rd quarter, and that's why Parker wasn't doing shit...But then Kobe got into foul trouble, and couldn't guard him in the 4th...Game 3- Sunday, 12:30PM@Staples Center.

from what i remember, the Spurs didnt struggle too much with LA last year. They won in 6, so LA winning one game wouldnt have givin them the series. Plus SA had homecourt, so a 7th game woulda been there anyways...

That 3 by Horry woulda' given the Lakers a 3-2 lead...Most likely, Lakers woulda' brought their A-game for the next game in LA, had that 3 gone down...If you know Laker history, you know they woulda' won if Horry woulda' connected...But arguing about this is pointless, because there's no way of knowing FOR SURE...PeACe

I agree with NIK, had that 3 gone down, the Lakers would be going for their 5th straight this year. Had the 3 dropped, Lakers go up 3-2, and in game 6 they wouldnt of given up like they (so obviously) did last season.

Parker is troubling the Glove and LA too much, switch up Kobe onto him to get him more involved. Kobe's quiet game 2 is surely something to do with Shaq's stepdads comments?!

Things arent so bad for LA, check the facts:
Malone, Kobe, GP, George, Rush, Slav, D Fish ALL had poor games
Parker was near perfect
Not one of Devin Georges 3's dropped
Kobe did not even look involved (mentally speaking)
A very poor 1st half defensively
2 key offensive rebounds to the Spurs in the dying minutes leading to buckets
Lakers not hitting a field goal for several minutes in the 4th

and they still only lost by 10!

Getting games 3+4 is a MUST however imo

lol@ this...

Theres a million ways u could say the Lakers WOULD have won last year, or that the Spurs WOULD have won the year before. But the fact of the matter was...they didnt. And just like last year, the Lakers will lose again this year. Its good some of u "keep hope alive" lol. But if the Spurs were down 2-0, you would make all kinds of arguments of how impossible it is for a team to come back from a 0-2 deficit. But since youre Laker fans...it somehow makes sense for a team to come back lo. Face it...theyre just not as good as u thought they were. The Spurs are definetely a better team then them. Big names mean shit if u cant play together. And a dominating defense like the Spurs is just too much for LA. Im tired of Laker fans always tryin to make excuses for getting outplayed. Sometimes, u just face a better team. 2 yrs ago, i thought the Spurs were actually better then LA....but u guys beat us. Thats fine, but ill admit that the year before that...u guys were definetely the better team when u beat us. The Championships the Spurs won, they were the better team when then swept through them, and last year when they beat them. This year, the Spurs are just better. I know the series isnt OVER yet. And there is still a chance. LA has a lot of confidence...but i think its shaky right now honestly.

Are you sure about that? Do you remember how the Rockets came back from an 0-2 deficit to win the championship, 2 FUCKIN' YEARS IN A ROW...That's why I'm mad at Jake for losing faith in his team so quickly, and just stomping on 'em when they're down...It's been done many times before, including last year (almost)...The Lakers should take the next 2 at home, and make this a brand new series...PeACe

come off like a groupie? because i make some sort of sense? Yah im a Spurs fan, bit check out how most of the LA fans act on here. Their team is "invinsible" to them, and even after losing last year, and possibly losing this year...they still manage to believe that the Lakers are the top team in basketball lol. There is always an excuse...never just a loss. Its the Kobe syndrom lol. And how could u say SA's D has nothing on Detroits? They gave up the same amount of points per game...only difference is, SA plays in the highly offensive, and much stronger Western Conference. If Detroit played in the West, there is no way theyd give up such little points per game. Their D would still be good, but theyd give up a lot more points guarenteed.

and like i said earlier, the lakers need to quit trying to stroke everyone's ego, pound that shit into shaq and let the offense flow through him or if that's not working let kobe take over the game...no one in the league is seeing them one on one. NO ONE.

You're still pulling for "Spurs in 5"?...Or .:DayGoStyLz:., are you still "looking for a sweeep"?...Oh no, let's not forget 7even the Harbinger, who was "90% sure the Spurs will take it in 5"...What about the so called "Laker fan" Don Jacob Corleone, who said "I don't believe they got the legs to keep up with the Spurs", and lost all hope in his team after they went down 0-2...That one got to me the most...I guess it isn't gunna be as easy as ya'll thought it would, is it?

LOL Word.

nik get off my back homie, you know i love the lakers.....shit i love the raiders and the cowboys too and i talk mad crap about them....i'm the type of fan whose down for my team no matter what.....shit i was watch kcal 9 and prime sports (pre foxsprots west) religiously when we wern't even a playoff team and seadle threat was our star player. But just cuz i'm down for my team doesn't mean i'm not going to call them out , chick hern did the same thing......in games 1 and 2 the lakers wern't playing like the lakers of games 3 and 4.....they flip flopped. if the lakers kept playing the way they did ...stroking egos...then yeah i'd still be saying the lakers wouldn't win this series....does that make me less of a laker fan, and a spurs lover!? fuck no i hate the spurs like i hate gay monkey sex. but i call it how i see it.

and again what did i say......let shaq and kobe run this shit like they should, fuck getting gary and malone in double figures and there's no team standing in our way......and what happened in game 4!?  i call this shit how i see it.

all the momentum has shifted to the lakers side...the spurs don't have that killer instinct real champions possess....even last years spurs  didn't do a good job, and they're less talented now. for game 5 the lakers need to supress duncan and parker again like they've been doing....this will free up the 3 ,but(!) do like they did tonight and wear bowen, turk, and parker down on d so those shots don't fall liek they want. offensively go to shaq...get rasho and duncan in foul trouble without a suffcient big man the spurs can't run an offense, when you can't pound it into shaq let kobe take over, he showed us all tonight (again) why he is the leagues best damn player.

lol aight aight, Im suprised (and happy too). now we have more games between those teams and more suspense. Game 5 is gonna be off the hook, it wouldnt be if the spurs already led 3:1. Im no Spurs fan, you have to know :D.

Yes, I didnt expect the Lakers to win 2 times in a row, but I never said it's impossible, I just thought it's all but likely.
And, let's be honest, I dont believe you really predicted that as well. So let's say we're both suprised, and both equally cool :D. LOL!

As far as my predictions go.. I assume both teams will keep winning their home court games. --> Spurs in 7. Not too sure though.

IMO nothing the spurs do will defeat the lakers....only the lakers can defeat the Lakers, the lakers showed us who they really are (like that fat black guy from PTI said) Hopefully the real Lakers will show up to San Antonio tomorrow

Listen man, I have no beef with you, but what you said just really upset me...You lost all hope in your team when they were down, and made it public...You don't see Phil Jackson or Jerry Buss telling the press "The Spurs are gunna win the championship, because the Lakers simply don't have the legs to keep up"...If you love your team, you should ride for them through the ups AND downs...But that's just my opinion...I don't like sports fans saying they don't have hope or faith in their team, just because their team hasn't been playing their best the last few games...It's all good though, just don't do that again...Always believe in The Lake Show!...LOL.

And, let's be honest, I dont believe you really predicted that as well. So let's say we're both suprised, and both equally cool :D. LOL!

I don't know if you've been following what I said throughout this series, but I predicted that the Lakers would win their next 2 games at home, just like they did last year...I wasn't at all surprised. 8)

payton is still taking too many shots, and stupid shitty ass shots too, on the other hand it seems like malone has finally seen his role in this lakers team and recognized this isnt utah anymore. anyways, the spurs are down right now, being at home tomorrow will give them a lil spurt, but the lakers are on a high right now and need to shut them down tomorrow. tomorrows game is critical for the lakers.

like i said whoever won game 4 should dictate the series.....3-2 lakers.

game 6 tips from the guru....

pound that shit into shaq....get duncan and rasho in foul trouble....by doing so giving easy shots for kobe , malone, payton....and SHAQ......let kobe RUN shit, kobe is the leagues best player hands down....let him be the man continue to contain parker....frustrate ginobli and play with turk.

lakers in 6 !

Im sorry to say that but the last few posters are the typical Laker-Fans. Spoiled as fuck. No true fans imo. Sorry to say that no offense most Laker-Fans are like that, I assume.
If the Lakers get owned, yall wont say shit to defend your team or anything. Some will even bash the fuck out of 'their team'. Then again, if the Lakers win and own the Spurs, yall come back out of the middle of nowhere and act like you've always been down - lol.
As far as for Wcc, only Nik didnt give the impression of a "typical Laker-Fan".
