Wow just noticed the release date for Blueprint..
I wonder if that affected sales in NYC

DAMN!!
-
havin worked in the muzik biz and record stores
once the cd's have been shipped, its virtually impossible to stop the release of any sale of a cd.
thats why when they pick a release date, they make sure its the one they want, cuz once ups picks them cd's up, no tellin what will happen or where them cd's are goin
-
i copped the blueprint and the trainning ost that day
-
Jay even referenced it in a song once,
"Rumor has it, The Blueprint classic
couldn't even be stopped by Bin Laden"
-
Yeah he's refernced it several times...
Is Jay down w/ George Bush?

How young are you guys? You don't remember when Blueprint dropped. I remember the days leading to and just after 9/11 like yesterday. I even remember reading the Source review for Blueprint, and i know it sounds silly, but having an out of body experience when I saw the 5 mics lined up together. Anyway. I certainly remembered 9/11.

Funny, because after poor sales Jay blamed the lack of buyers on the 9/11 events. Maybe he should have just made the video with Em to boost sales, but his ego was too big for that I guess.
-
I was working at the Wherehouse/FYE at that time and due to bootlegging we starting selling that album on Monday. It leaked a couple days before the release date but man I remember bumping Takeover and that album late into the next morning and then turning on the news and seeing 9/11 take place. Fabolous dropped his 1st album on that date also.
-
I remember back when it dropped but I didn't cop that or Fab's album until a few months later
-
It was actually supposed to be released on September 18, 2001 but they decided to release it a week earlier to try to stop people from bootlegging the album. Still, 426,000 copies sold in the first week of release and staying in that spot for nearly a month was great considering what was going on.

No wonder you don't like Nas, you're a Jay stan.
-
Actually to be honest, I think that album is a little bit overrated.
-
^Yeah i've always thought that. Especially the incredible ratings it got compared to other albums that are either just as good or better that got average or bad ratings.
I like 'The Black Album' and 'Reasonable Doubt' better.

I found that the production outdid the rapper. That is one thing I miss about 5-10 years ago. If a MC was on a Pete Rock or Dre or Premo or a top notch producers beat, you knew you were going to get some lyrics. Jay sounded ehh at times on a album beat wise that is one of the best. Sonically that album is amazing but lyrically it was not as sharp as some of his other albums. It did wonders for Just Blaze and Kanye's career though.

sorry, i was too busy worrying about my country getting attacked to remember that Jay-Z dropped an album. ::)

I remember both things.

Young cats don't know how to multitask.

I've always found jay to be overated.his beats are usually top notch but rarely does he make me hit the rewind button

I like Nas better than Jay Z.

i think i bought this album the first week it came out :o

Actually to be honest, I think that album is a little bit overrated.
real talk. I'm a BIG Jay-Z fan and feel that album is so over rated. Reasonable Doubt > Black Album > In My Lifetime Vol.1 > Blueprint.
for me these songs on "Blueprint" sucked
girls girls girls
hola hovita
"u dont know" and "jigga that ni99a" are avg as fuck
-
I know I'm old now, I thought everybody knew that. :bandit:

girls girls girls is the best song on the album.

I remember I went to the big music store copping this just after high school and putting it immediately in my CD player ... people were talking loud , shouting in the streets, I was like "WTF happened" then I went home and all my family was in front of the TV ...

Reasonable is definetely better, it's arguable when it comes to the BA but IML VOL 1 ? I always thought this album was not good at all
-
I didn't care for vol 1 or 2 at all.
-
I see how BA is arguable and its better imo
damn ya'll didn't like vol.1? the only songs i didnt like were those 2 mainstream JOKE of songs (i know what girls like and sunshine). Those 2 songs may keep the Blueprint better; actually, ya it does lol
RD > BA > Blueprint > Vol.1 > American Gangster > Vol. 2 > Blueprint 2 > Kingdom Come > Vol. 3
-
vol. 1 was pretty good. God i hate that song with diddy tho lol
Vol. 3 was my fav outta that series
-
damn i hardly ever listen to jay
but sometimes he comes up wit the craziest raps, either him or whoe-evers writin his muzik
Jay even referenced it in a song once,
"Rumor has it, The Blueprint classic
couldn't even be stopped by Bin Laden"
-

damn. i think thats easily his worst album lol
-
Looking back at his albums. At first I was not a big fan of Volume 1. Now lyrically that album was on point, production was ehh
Most vets have that one album that is just their biggest seller. May not be their best but it is up there and usually has 1-3 smash singles on it. Volume 2 is that for Jay. That album made him a megastar IMO.
Volume 3 tried to be the club banger version of Volume 2 but not so much. It just sounded rushed and not as planned out as 2. Had some bangers but ehh for me.

I think Vol.1 and especially 'Kingdom Come' are worse.

This is why I always say jay z is overrated.if you look at his catalogue album by album it really isn't all that impressive.most of his albums are average at best.nas has a much better catalog.

Nas has one of the best of all time though.
Jay-Z has a hate it or love it career; some think he has classics & some think Reasonable Doubt was his only.
like S P I C E said, he is top 10 when in his prime. 8)
-
But jay is considered one of the best ever.which to me doesn't make sense when looking at his mediocre albums.he's just fortunate always have that one or two big single each album

Disagree. Best catalog in hiphop, imo.. about 3 classics, and only 1 or 2 average albums..
-
Outkast have a better catalog.
-
haha damn
but and would you say outkast are better rappers on a solo tip than jay?
Outkast have a better catalog.
-
Really?no album to me he has is as good as the chronic or doggystyle or illmatic.reasonable doubt was great but not perfect.I didn't like any from vol 1 to 3 I thought theyn were all average with lots of skippable tracks.dynasty was a bit better but still not great.blueprint has a few skippable tracks and to me is no classic.blue print 2 should have been one disc lots of filler.kingdome come was growth for him but the album was inconsistent.american gangster was good but a step back in lyrics as he went back to the same old boring subject matter.the black album is probably my favorite album of his but still not perfect.the word classic gets thrown around too much.a classic is an album that every track is outstanding with no slip ups.no jay z album is perfect.
-
DAMN!!

I know I'm old now, I thought everybody knew that. :bandit:
When someone on mtv that horrid day asked Jay Z about the album on that day, he said he didn't care about it at the time. Glitter also came out. And I couldn't go inside the mall cause some shithead made some threats on that day >:( I chose to go there 2 take my mind off it.
